Logan Tennis 2015
Logan Tennis 2015
Logan has had a very good start to the season this far for the boys! Holding a 2-1 record to this point.
Beat Fisher Catholic 5-0 in their first match of the season. Beating Zanesville 5-0 as well the very next day. The only loss on the ledger so far was on Monday night against Portsmouth the Chiefs went down 3-2. Still waiting on the results Tuesday night against Gallia.

Re: Logan Tennis 2015
Logan generally has a few good players every few years. I do have to say they have a very nice tennis facility. It really is a shame they can't do affiliated membership with the MSL for tennis, though. Drive all the way to Portsmouth just to play tennis? Yuck.
Re: Logan Tennis 2015
I agree with that, every few years they'll have a gun or two, but definitely not all the time!
Logan beats Newark 4-1, improves their record to 3-1 on the season. They have a match today against Jackson then five next week!

Logan defeats Athens 4-1 at Logan. The Chiefs move to 4-2 overall on the season.
Re: Logan Tennis 2015
The Chiefs defeated Athens on Monday 3-2 for the second time in as many matches.
On Wednesday they lost to Gallia Academy 4-1, and then lost to Bloom-Carroll 4-1 on Friday.
The Chiefs now stand at 5-4 overall and 2-3 in the SEOAL.

Re: Logan Tennis 2015
I can see Logan beating Elm and Fisher down the stretch, and they'll probably grab a few more SEOAL wins.
Bloom-Carroll is probably one of the better squads they'll face this year. Bulldogs always put together a strong squad.

Re: Logan Tennis 2015
Carroll is always good, Logan playing a fairly tough schedule this year. Gallia is the defending SEOAL champs looks like they'll win it again this year as well.

The Chiefs defeated Teays Valley in shutout fashion on Monday, 5-0. This moves the Chiefs overall record to 6-4 on the season.

Re: Logan Tennis 2015
Great win for Logan. Teays won at least a share of the MSL, and I do believe they return one of their singles players from last year. Their #1 was a senior, but still a solid program. Glad to see Coach Siemer and his boys have a winning record this year, solid group. I don't remember how they did last year, but I know they swept Fisher (the team I follow closely) and fared well in the SEOAL last year.Chieftain2009 wrote:The Chiefs defeated Teays Valley in shutout fashion on Monday, 5-0. Re: Logan Tennis 2015
Kind of unrelated, but C2k9 do you think FCA will ever field tennis? Probably the best player in Fairfield County, and definitely one of the top - if not the best - freshman in the Central District attends FCA but plays for Lancaster. I know they have a few kids that also like the sport of tennis, but I imagine they are already pulled in a few different directions w/ baseball and track. I suppose I ask since you are familiar with FCA.
Re: Logan Tennis 2015
That's a great question! I hope to see them field a tennis team. I know they would be very competitive in it, not just in the league but sectional and district wise as well. I could definitely see them fielding a whole team within the next two years, it's difficult for small schools like FCA and Fisher to start teams up like this since the numbers in the school are so minimal that you have to have commitments from the students to play before you start the team.

Re: Logan Tennis 2015
Fisher's has had theirs for quite a while, but I know some years they have difficulty fielding a team of more than eight players. This year the whole team is all sophomores, last year their top five were seniors - all but two of whom had just joined that season - and the rest were then-freshmen. They generally get a handful of kids that live in the more out-lying/far-reach areas (Circleville, Canal, New Lex et al)to come out in their senior year to play since those kids by that time have cars and an ability to drive themselves to/from practice. I'm more/less amazed they're still able to field tennis in both the fall and spring.
I'm sure FCA could support a team of six-to-seven kids, could be a mix of boys and girls. It may hurt their baseball numbers, but I get the impression their generally small baseball program is used to working with sub-optimal numbers since I know the senior mission trip at FCA is pretty popular and that would pull kids in different directions too. Madison Christian has been able to support a small-scale co-ed team for a few years now, so I'm sure FCA could play a relaxed schedule consisting of Hartley, Fisher, Madison Christian, Ready, Groveport, Logan, etc.

For sure! FCA's numbers are going down recently, and tennis would definitely hurt sports like baseball and track but it would be nice to add another sport for a small school. I'd like to see them add it in the next couple years.
Re: Logan Tennis 2015
In recent action, last week, Gallia defeated Logan 3-2. Since then the Chiefs have sort of been on a roll, winning three in a row! On Friday they defeated Jackson, and followed that up with victories over Zanesville on Saturday (5-0), and over Logan Elm on Monday (5-0). The end of this week will wrap up the regular season for the Chiefs, they currently sit at a 9-5 record.
Re: Logan Tennis 2015
Logan falls to Portsmouth 4-1, dropping their record to 9-6 overall and 3-5 SEOAL.
It appears this is how the league will play out:
1. Gallia Academy
2. Jackson
3. Portsmouth
4. Logan
5. Athens
The only ones that are locks in their positions right now though, are Gallia and Athens.

Congrats to the Chiefs on finishing the regular season 11-8 after beating Fisher Catholic 5-0 in their final regular season match. On to Sectional play.
