A great coach in high school should not be judged by wins but by the kind of young men he helps to mold. That said, Mr Charles Chancey at meigs needs mentioned.

Katie Smith - best ever in southeast Ohio - IMO.

Best I have ever seen, hands down.
If your limitation of SE Ohio excludes areas around Portsmouth, Ironton, and Wheeling, then I agree with you.
Includes them too.

Katie Smith is, was, and probably will be the best ever. She could have played volleyball or thrown shot-put for any major college in the country after she was named Gatorade NATIONAL athlete of the year her senior year. Instead, she chose Ohio State to play basketball and led the Buckeyes to the NATIONAL championship game while being named freshmen of the year in the COUNTRY. She has played in WNBA finals and is widely regarded as one of the top 10 or 15 players of all time in her PROFESSIONAL sport. I can go on and on, but if she really wanted to prove her worth as the best ever in southeast Ohio, she could just walk around with her three gold medals around her neck that she won in two different decades.

I don't know of one single athlete from southeast Ohio that has earned those types of accolades. In fact, you could put her in the conversation as one of the best ever from the state of Ohio!

BTW, I'm from Athens. I hate Logan. They were our long time rival. But I'm willing to give credit where credit is due. And Katie deserves all the credit in the world. She was flat out amazing.
Top 10 or 15? How about top 5

i agree with coaches turning boys into men. and my entry coach bob lutz did that very thing over 40 years of coaching. and became Ohio's all time wins record holder at ironton high.hey i know he may not be everybodies choice. but he did all that , and holds the record.
and 2 state titles.

If you go by wins, league titles and post-season playoffs, Brent Saunders is Gallia Academy's top football coach.

In our school, Its easy. The PE teacher was easily the best coach in school history. If he was still running the show we would have multiple state titles right now instead of the "just happy to be in the playoffs" mentality we currently enjoy.

Greatest football coach at Waverly, look towards a basketball immortal, Carroll Hawhee. 1949 to 1965, over 100 wins. Many would argue for Tom Redmond for a 19-0-01 record during 68-69 or Ed Bolin who resurrected the program starting in the mid 80's.
