I for one am all for the league splitting into 3 divisions. It would make for more balanced competition. Just an example, but did you know Belpre's enrollment was over double that of Eastern's this year?

So Belpre is the reason you guys can't win??
You guys just want away from Trimble lol
No one has complained about Belpre size, then they put together a winning season and there you have it!

Absolutely not. Eastern has not been successful because of the revolving door of coaches that has been happening the last 10 years. With new administration at Eastern, that problem should be fixed. Belpre was a small school, but their enrollment is rising. Economic growth in Belpre will probably cause that to continue. I'm saying that competitively it makes sense. It would create more parody. As far as getting away from Trimble goes, people can say what they want. Trimble has built a very successful program. When I played, Trimble was just another team. I went 2-2 against Trimble, including an ass-kicking we gave the Tomcats on their home field in 1995. The bottom line is, the people who are at the bottom as far as enrollment want the league to even out, and the people that would have to go up don't.

O&B You hit the nail on the head when you said Eastern wants away from Trimble. So does Southern.

Screaming Eagle when did the Admin change down there? I know the superintendent and he has been there for years. So who changed?

It doesn't benefit anyone to split the Hocking.

Their are a few schools that want away from Trimble, that's it.
SG doesn't want to travel up to Athens or Perry County and they don't want anything to do with Wahama or Trimble. Same with Southern, they don't want to compete with Trimble and Wahama.

It has nothing to do with enrollment.

The current superintendent has been there a few years. Josh Fogle is the new Athletic Director. A little digging could tell you the problems in the past. Games being scheduled against the coach's request, etc. This went for all sports.

Hopefully whatever internal issues that have been going on are fixed or in the process of being fixed. If the administration and coaches aren't happy it trickles down to the kids. Kids don't wanna play if they can't have fun doing it.

I think it could be good for everybody. I haven't looked at the numbers, but I'm pretty sure there is a large discrepancy in enrollment size in the Ohio Division. I just think it could make for a more interesting league. Southern, Waterford, Eastern, Miller, South Gallia are all much smaller than the rest of the schools in the hocking. You can say it has nothing to do with enrollment, but you can't honestly believe that enrollment doesn't play a part. Trimble is a powerhouse for sure. They have great coaching and great tradition. It's not the reason for their success, but having 50 extra boys to choose from doesn't hurt them though.

Belpre isn't growing. Belpre is shrinking. Fast. If you compare Belpre today to Belpre ten years ago, there is a huge drop in enrollment. Compare Belpre today to Belpre forty years ago and it's like half the size it used to be. Belpre was larger than Nelsonville-York, Alexander and Wellston at one time not so long ago. Belpre's enrollment is falling into the middle of the pack of the Hocking Division if trends continue.

I think they are heading in the right direction. I think all the coaches and administration are on the same team now. I know several years ago the football coach wanted to drop Alex from the opening game. This was after graduating 12 seniors. Let's face it, to build a program, Eastern already plays Trimble and Wahama. They don't need tough non conference games. After getting Buffalo WV to agree to play week 1, the coach was told that another contract with Alex was already signed. That is also when Sciotoville East wanted to sign another contract, and it didn't happen. Instead, Eastern played Canton Central Catholic. There are stories I've heard about baseball as well. Things should be looking up now.

Compare Belpre today to that of Belpre 5 years ago, I imagine they are heading back up. They are the largest TVC Hocking school as of now. What I was referring to about the economic growth of Belpre was referencing the fact that Belpre is no longer a dry town. Restaurants will be attracted to Belpre now because of the possibility of alcohol sales. The hospital expansion is booming. Belpre is about to grow, and grow fast.

Compared to the last 4-6 years, Belpre has decreased by 50-60 students grades 9-11 based on previous OHSAA enrollment figures and Belpre is not the largest Hocking School. It's still Federal Hocking who also appears on the decline. Here are the TVC enrollment figures with the OHSAA STEM/community figures before they were taken down.

Hocking Division Boys Girls
Belpre 103 104
Eastern 079 092
Federal Hocking 108 105
Miller 083 065
Southern 090 080
South Gallia 079 066
Trimble 093 071
Wahama (WV) 106* 107*
Waterford 075 086
* = Estimated

Ohio Division Boys Girls
Alexander 176 174
Athens 296 312
Meigs 212 200
Nelsonville-York 151 146
River Valley 169 168
Vinton County 274 227
Wellston 174 156

So if you kicked Trimble's aszz when you were in school what is different now? I'm sure Eastern was not much bigger in the mid 90's than they are now, but Trimble was bigger.

Uhh.....read above...pretty sure I answered that. A revolving door of coaches at Eastern, compared to rock solid stability in Coach Faires at Trimble.

Thanks for the info. I didn't get to see them before they were taken down. That's a giant drop for Trimble, who has been at 110 the past couple of years. I still stand by my statement that Belpre is going to grow.

Might want to recheck these with the new numbers released. Fed hock has 96. I'm sure other schools number will be different as well.
