Re: Division V, Region 17
I think the lineup in Region 17 is great. Too bad this will only be for 1 year and then the competitive balance referendum takes effect and things will get shuffled around every year

Re: Division V, Region 17
Time will tell, but I would imagine that most of these schools will see a reasonably equal increase from this change and in the end, the region will stay very similar. The top 3-4 schools in enrollment could bump up to D4 and the top 3-4 from D6 could bump up. I wonder if this will change some schools from dressing all freshman for varsity games? If they are dressed, they become part of the roster and then become part of the count. If they are just part of the freshman roster, there is no impact. Maybe coaches will say "any freshman who are not open enrollment and have been here since 7th grade can dress on Friday nights" LOL
Re: Division V, Region 17
My guess on the top 8 from the region that make the playoffs (no particular order):
Ironton
Minford
Wheelersburg
Portsmouth West
Amanda Clearcreek
Martins Ferry
Liberty Union
Nelsonville York
From a distance it looks FAIRLY easy to get into the top 8 and then its a dogfight.

Re: Division V, Region 17
This region is sometimes very tough to get in. Especially a home playoff game.
Don't know anything about Garaway.
Liberty Union is probably down for a while. They were senior laden last year and their posters on JJHUDDLE said last year was probably the end of talent for a while.
Ridgewood always seems to accumulate alot of points.
Ironton's move to the OVC and the open date is really going to hurt them. They probably need to win 2 or 3 from Wheelersburg, Russell, and Ashland to get in.
Minford could loose to Valley, Wheelersburg, West, and quite possibly Bishop Ready. They will need to win to win one of those and all 6 other games to sneak in.
IMO these 8 teams (Wheelersburg, Garaway, Ironton, Amanda Clearcreek, Martins Ferry, West Lafayette Ridgwood, Portsmouth West, Nelsonville York) will make the playoffs. Team with the best chance to be one of the 8 is Minford. Wildcard is Garaway.

Re: Division V, Region 17
I just copied what kvnchambers had on another thread. Its a really good measuring stick.
But they are the region 17 teams this year listed in order of their harbon points total from last year. What region they were in last year. And an x means they were a playoff team last year.

Re: Division V, Region 17
The OHSAA stuck three SVC schools in Region 18. Piketon, Westfall and Zane Trace.
That region has the likes of CHCA, Jamestown Greenview, Versailles, Roger Bacon and Anna.

No, roster size does not, but it does increase your chances of having open enrollment kids or kids who have not been continuously enrolled since the 7th grade....Orange and Brown wrote:Roster size doesn't determine your count numbers......4th n Goal wrote:Time will tell, but I would imagine that most of these schools will see a reasonably equal increase from this change and in the end, the region will stay very similar. Re: Division V, Region 17
Assume this hypothetical situation. Team A and B have the same enrollment count. Both teams have 25% of their roster who fall into the x2 multiplier.Orange and Brown wrote:Your logic is still flawed though lol
Team A has 70 kids on their roster because they dress all the freshman and JV players. 70 x .25 = 17.5. Apply the x2 to those 17.5 and they have to add 35 to their count.
Team B has 40 kids on their roster, they do not dress freshman or JV players. 40 x .25 = 10. Apply the x2 to those 10 and they have to add 20 to their count.
In some cases, if you are close to the cutoff line, the difference of 15 kids between team A and B would change the division of Team A.
