2015 SOC Soccer
2015 SOC Soccer
Here are my thoughts on the SOC season coming up. Last season's records (from data on OSSCA.org) next to school names
Boys SOC2 Soccer
Wheelersburg (12-6-1) - Lots of talent and experience, but have some holes to fill on defense. Return a 3rd year goalkeeper and very potent scoring attack. Coach Estep will have a great group to start his Pirate career. My early SOC favorite
Minford (3-5-5) - Losing their keeper (Gullion), front line speedster, and entire defense will be a struggle. There are still several solid players, but I don't think they have enough depth. Will possibly have better tournament success moving down to D3
Northwest (6-6-5) - Their strength has been their defense and Scarberry in the net. Some skill players, but moving on to a new keeper will no varsity experience will be a challenge. Like Minford, could benefit by moving down to D3 for the tournament
Waverly (8-9-1) - Will be searching for a new identity without Purpero and Coach Williamson. Will have some solid pieces, but will be entering a transition period
West (4-6-3) - Lost a strong group of seniors and will struggle moving up to D2 for the tournament
Boys SOC1 Soccer
South Webster (14-4-2) - Obvious favorite for the 15th? straight year.
Valley (11-5-2) - Romanello will be the scoring leader, but likely not enough to beat SW
New Boston (2-10-1) - New coach and limited roster will likely lead to another just ok season
Clay (3-13-1) - Limited number of players and will struggle to compete again
Girls SOC Soccer
Minford (8-7-1) - Won the first SOC title for girls last year. Return most players, but will need to find a new keeper
Wheelersburg (8-6-1) - Good inagural season for the program, will hope to build on the first year success.
West (4-10-2) - Lost their key scorer, but lots of returning players and should be improved
Northwest (1-13-0) - Won their first game last season for the program. Return most players and should improve
Waverly - New team from a tradition rich soccer school. Should be very solid.
On a side note, as you can see from the records posted, not many schools enter all of their scores into the OSSCA database. It would be great if more schools used this tool.

Final 2-1 Minford
Great job by Minford defense and goalie.

Re: 2015 SOC Soccer
Nice job Minford on today's win and last seasons record was 7-5-5 for Minford with only one conference loss, hence capturing SOC title. Falcons should be able to defend their title despite losing last season's talent to graduation. Best of luck to all teams this year.
