Kicking game turns out to be the deciding factor.

Waverly was in the Red Zone nine times in this game. They finally scored nine points to win.
Give the Piketon defense some credit as they played hard down deep, but Waverly also made some crucial mistakes.
Both teams are average IMO.

What do you mean? Give Piketons defense some credit? The entire second half was played on our end of the field. They repeatedly stopped the Tigers until, unfortunately, a broken tackle and a fumble late allowed Waverly to score and, ultimately, win the game. Nobody outside of Piketon gave the Streaks a chance- Waverly's speed and size were too much. What I saw was a Red Streaks defense who played with as much heart and grit as I've ever seen. The Streaks may be average, but I'll support them with all I've got.

mikepike, I would agree about Piketon's defense playing with all heart. Waverly seemed to move the ball at will but once they got inside the 5 Piketon stepped up. I've not seen anything like it in H.S. football. Throwing two pics in the end zone on two of those visits to the red zone doesn't help either. I think the Tigers learned some things offensively they will hopefully correct if in those situations again. I didn't have a clue what Piketon would bring but everything I heard, even from Piketon people, was the defense wasn't that good. Maybe what those folks saw in the scrimmages was what we saw between the 20's last night and not what the Streaks accomplished inside the 10. I do think the Tigers made some bad decisions and crucial mistakes in the red zone.
Knowing we have a kicker who can put 3 on the board we may not be so inclined to go for it on 4th down inside the 10, lol.
The late fumble killed Piketon, not sure I hand it off in that situation but hind site is 20/20. Very ironic a "20" yard FG won it as we honored and remembered #20 Beau Szoke.

smurray, I for one wasn't sure what the Streaks would bring last night. The defense certainly gave up some yards and some big plays, but time after time someone stepped up and made a big play. Gotta give Harris credit for slipping Smith's tackle and going in for the score. Then, the Streaks D stood tall after the fumble and made the Tigers go for -and make, gotta give props to Clayton- the field goal. Disappointed still, but encouraged by the heart shown last night. Now, going forth, I hope we break our tendencies or I see struggles on offense.

ya, I think both teams have potential but things to fix. Of course it was the first game of the year, County rival, and a lot of pre-game emotions to deal with.

I thought the pregame recognitions were nice.

I hope to see Waverly give some teams some competition this year.
