For the Logan faithful … is it true that a soccer player even if he wanted to play soccer and kick for the football team isn't allowed due to a Logan soccer team rule keeping this from happening ? … I thought I some one told me that a while back - that soccer players are not allowed to play for the football team … just wondering as it appears after 2 games that the kicking game for LHS is a weak link … as the season rolls on and the Purple goes up against better and better teams - trying to get better in all areas is a must - the missed PAT, weak kicks etc. will and usually do come back to haunt a team … first by not putting points on the board and just as importantly giving a short field to the opposition after punts … we'll see

Yep, same thing I'm thinking Floyd. It will come back to haunt them when better competition rolls around. You need a decent kicker regardless. There's gotta be someone on that team that can kick extra points. Ole Burke ought to line them up and try to find one from the team then if a soccer player is a no go. Pick one that looks decent and have him kicking his butt off in weekly practice's. Hope he finds one soon, because he might have to count on one coming up later in the season imo.

Tvs coach did say Logan wore them down...but it helps when you are up 21/00 and haven't let the other team run a play yet.

I think the Chiefs dominated on both sides of the ball basically against TV. But when you run into a team that can stop Logan at times and score just as much and can make PAT's, this could get the Chiefs in trouble with no kicker. Can't rely on making 2 point conversions to get points back after failed PAT's on a good defensive team. Logan needs a decent kicker, and soon.

Logan has had soccer players kicking for them in the past,Derek Montgomery comes to mind back in 2009-10 he played goalie I believe and another guy also kicked and played soccer years ago but his name escapes me,I bet Locos would know.More recently Charles Bowlby was a soccer player and kicked but I don't know if he did them in the same years, seems like his senior year he only played football,so maybe there is something to it.It would have to be a recent rule

Kyle Kennard 2006
Ronnie Burcham 2007-2008
Derek Montgomery 2009-2010

I believe the soccer coach made the rule recently that they couldn't do both. Which imo, that's a dumb rule, I don't think kicking would effect them playing soccer.

Yeah, pretty strict rule alright. Nothing wrong with a kid helping out another Logan fellow sport that brings in the bread and butter at the gates. Don't see how it would really hurt his soccer performance. A soccer coach ought to be proud if he has a guy good enough to kick for the football team as well. How can he make that rule anyways? Shouldn't that rule of playing two sports around the same time be made from higher up's? Only thing I can figure the soccer coach may fear his players could get injured. I don't pay much attention to soccer, is it played on or around the same time frame as football? Dumb question probably, but that's how much I like it and don't pay much attention to it.     But I do know kickers can be found there. :122245

I mean, Logan's soccer program isn't really a high-stakes nor super competitive program to begin with. No disrespect at all intended to their hardworking kids and the coach, but it's true. You have schools up and near Columbus with 10x the soccer history and foundation compared to Logan's who have absolutely no problem sharing the talent if it makes the football team more competitive. Ridiculous thought process. Some of the best kickers for small school ball in recent memory were also on the soccer team.

Agree, it is a ridiculous thought process. A soccer coach should be proud one of his soccer players kicks for football too. Might help them win in a heavy situation, plus football is the bread and butter sport at the gate. Got me formerfcfan, I don't know what's going on but you would think a rule like that would have to come from the higher ups not a soccer coach. Is soccer played on or around the same time football is? Give or take?

Kinda tough to answer that because I'm not totally familiar with soccer, but I do know the season for probably 95% of schools with active programs start about two weeks before the first football contest (note: actual game, not scrimmage nor jamboree). It could be a tad earlier than that, as I believe some schools have had games within two days before or after the first day of school. So in five seconds or less, the soccer season starts earlier. Also, you'll see that a bunch of schools have their games Monday through Thursday, by and large they'll be league games. Most schools will have Saturday contests, but often its against a non-league opponent.

Usually the soccer regular season for most schools end the same week that is "Week 8" in Ohio's HS football season.

It is very doable to do both if you live in close proximity to the school. Key idea being "living close". If you live 25-30 minutes out, it's going to add up and take a toll. Hope this helps

Jackson's kickers are usually soccer players.

I can see both sides of it. On one hand I can see a coaches concern for getting one of his soccer players hurt, and I'm sure that young man has to spend at least one day a week practicing with the football team, taking time away from the soccer team. On the other hand lots of schools have used and continue to use soccer players without issues.

Logan is solid this year. I hate to agree with Palidumb but I think he's right. Logan by a lot.

I heard this same thing last year. And I would said its the soccer coaches rule. I'm sure there is a player that can kick a 25 yd fg concistantly. If I was the AD I would pose these questions to the soccer coach. What's better for the greater good? What sport pays the bills?? Then I'd ask what are you going to do to help the coach that pays your bills?

I personally think its pathetic that one coach is aloud to restrict a player who has the motivation and ability or talent to do so.

FWIW - Logan soccer isn't bad. In fact, they just got beat for the first time this year on Saturday (2-1 by Newark, Newark is 4-1).

Also, while Logan doesn't have a great "kicker," they have more problems than that. The two blocks by Teays Valley were direct result of a man coming through untouched for the block.

Right now Logan needs to be better at snapping, holding, protecting, and kicking. Smith isn't bad at PATs if he gets the first three.

Now, I'd love to recruit a soccer player to kick. Maybe even look at the girls team? Teays Valley had two girl kickers on their roster. One of them kicked an extra point as a freshman last year.

All this mentioned above are special teams problems It start with coaching and practicing.
