Time will tell. This season has held a lot of surprises already. Previews can be deceiving. Look at Ironton. I wouldn't have thought they would lose to Russell and they have a good chance of starting 0-4. I also thought West would be 2-0 at this point. I don't think Portsmouth will be Burg but this could be one of those trap game if Burg don't take the Trojans serious.wobycat wrote:If it's that close, then burg is just mediocre. I didn't see anything in the previews that would suggest Portsmouth being good this year.

Ironton was the victim of their best two players being hurt. Ironton isn't that great but they are very good when at full strength which have the best linebacker, running back, and tackle in the area. Portsmouth looked more disciplined but did not look like a team that could contend for anything.
I agree that the burg needs to be focused, they are still trying to figure out what they can do offensively but their defense will keep this from being a trap game.

Portsmouth that much better or west that much worse? Find out on Friday I guess.
Re: Wk 3: Wheelersburg @ Portsmouth
I'm pretty excited for this game, always hard hitting and entertaining.
Re: Wk 3: Wheelersburg @ Portsmouth
I'm going to give a few points to Portsmouth for home field advantage. You know the Trojans will play their guts out, and what better mascot to have in a potential trap game than the Trojans, eh?
Anyway, I digress. Special Teams play could have a big impact on this game. If the Pirates give up a kick return or fumble one, then the Trojans could slip out of the horse and upset the Pirate Ship.

PHS is coming off a big win over West that many didn't expect, but I'm taking Sciotodale by 28.

Ironton isnt as good as advertised. Wont know what type of team Burg really has for 2 more weeks when they play Jackson.

Hard to argue that. Watching them against the Burg, if Young is out, I could see them struggle. That kid is a monster.wobycat wrote:Ironton is good when at full strength.

They are good, but nothing great.
Paladino is a heck of a runner. When the defense knows its a run play 90% of the time, its not too hard for a good defense to stop it.
Throw in the fact they have a hard time sustaining drives due to self inflicted penalties and they arent great.

Maybe the trojans should move the burg game back to spartan. 3 games against the burg and 3 loses. 2 of which was blowouts.
