Reid Fragel, a TE from Michigan, commits to OSU. He was NOT offered by Michigan, but this is because Fragel is a 6'7" 260 LB TE that is a blocker primarily. He could also grow into the OL.

This is #15 in the OSU 2009 class.

The 2009 Class so far....

LB Dorian Bell (PA)
S Jamie Wood (OH)
WR Chris Fields (OH)
CB C.J. Barnett (OH)
OL Jack Mewhort (OH)
FB/LB Adam Homan (OH)
DT Johnny Simon (OH)
LB Storm Klein (OH)
LB Jordan Whiting (KY)
RB Jordan Hall (PA)
DL Melvin Fellows (OH)
OL Corey Linsely (OH)
FB/LB/DL Zack Boren (OH)
WR James Jackson (MI)
TE/OL Reid Fragel (MI)

I don't think this kid is going to see the field at OSU. I know two people that live in the area and have seen him play and they say he doesn't dominate much smaller competition.

Michigan really never gave him a sniff. His best bet is to play DE, but he imho is not athletic enough.

I think OSU's concerns about him before the offer was his toughness. That would coincide with what your friends had to say. However, apparently he ran down and slammed a guy who stole his father's luggage during a visit to OSU, and believe it or not, the staff took notice. The Florida visitors (Emilien, Berry, McGee, Hyde) were yelling about how they want to play for a guy like that. Obviously, such a story would not totally change OSU's mind, but it may have made then look a little harder.

JT must like something about him. He usually does like the multi-position guys. He is a TE now, but could grow into a OT. Plus, JT always offers 1 or 2 "lunch pail" type of guys, and he feels that every great team needs the guys that do the dirty work. Maybe that's what Fragel will be.

I know that JT's recruiting philosophy is, "It's not the guys you miss that hurt. It's the guys you get that don't turn out," so I doubt he's throwing schollies around. Only time will tell who got it right.

Had some relatives in over the weekend from that state up north. They were telling me this kid was about to commit to OSU and I just kind of blew them off. Now I have to make a phone call, before they call me. LOL They say he is one of those diamonds in the rough. One that an ordinary person or coach may not notice. I hope they are right and I guess time will tell. I watched his highlight film and I must admit he does look very good. Welcome to OSU Mr Fragel!

Every year, OSU will take an academic risk with one or two guys, and usually those guys are flat out studs. They just won't give a borderline offer to anyone but a person with good grades and test scores.

Here is a video of Fragel working out. Yes, a little creepy to just sit and watch a guy workout, but it gives a feel for his work ethic and athleticism.

I have been a little behind on this topic. Since the Fragel commit, OSU has landed verbals from DT Adam Bellamy and DB Dominic Clarke. Bellamy received an offer after being looked at by OSU coaches in camp, and they have been great in the past with their camp offers. Clarke was a late May/early June offer in a crowded and growing class, so OSU must feel strongly about his ability to play.

The 2009 Class so far....

LB Dorian Bell (PA)

WR Chris Fields (OH)
CB C.J. Barnett (OH)
OL Jack Mewhort (OH)
FB/LB Adam Homan (OH)
DT Johnny Simon (OH)
LB Storm Klein (OH)
LB Jordan Whiting (KY)
RB Jordan Hall (PA)
DL Melvin Fellows (OH)
OL Corey Linsely (OH)
FB/LB/DL Zack Boren (OH)
WR James Jackson (MI)
TE/OL Reid Fragel (MI)
DB Dominic Clarke (MD)
DT Adam Bellamy (OH)

Alright Orestes, I want to hear what you think on the McDougald kid. NEvada says he is a lock to be a Buckeye.

I have seen this kids film and talked to him personally (Marshall recruit), and this kid is honestly not that good IMHO.

I know he camped at UM and they didn't give this kid a sniff. They didn't even really mention his name.

THoughts?

Carter commited today. This kid is a 3rd option wideout. 4.6 40 type of kid with good hands.

I don't know much about Mcdougald. All I know is that JT told Brandon Mcgee (very highly rated), Corey Brown, Justin Green, and Mcdougald that all of their offers were not guaranteed to last until signing day, and that it would be first come first serve (they will take more than one definitely, maybe all but one). This tells me that OSU's staff thinks of them equally.
Maybe they are wrong, but they have been excellent at recruiting "under the radar" DBs (Jenkins, Washington, Russell, Salley).

OSU's staff has guaranteed the offers to Vlad Emelien, Jamaal Berry, Marcus Hall, and Carlos Hyde (plus likely a few others).

I have been "eh" about Carter also, but he does have a nice offer list, including LSU.

Corey Brown (****) and Bradley McDougald (***) made it official for OSU today. That is commit #21 and #22 for the Buckeyes. OSU's class should finish in the 27-30 range, so keep an eye out for Jamaal Berry (*****), Vlad Emelien (*** OSU loves him), Marcus Hall (*****), Chris Watt (*****), Tyrone Ezell (****), EJ Banks (***), Jonathan Newsome (***), Brandon McGee (*****), and Corey Adams (*****). NB has called three of them to OSU, and feels good about a few others. Corey Adams seems like a longshot but possible. EJ Banks has not been officially offered a spot. Ezell has OSU as a leader, but the timing may not be right with him wanting to wait and OSU filling up fast.

The 2009 Class so far....

LB Dorian Bell (PA)
S Jamie Wood (OH)
WR Chris Fields (OH)
CB C.J. Barnett (OH)
OL Jack Mewhort (OH)
FB/LB Adam Homan (OH)
DT Johnny Simon (OH)
LB Storm Klein (OH)
LB Jordan Whiting (KY)
RB Jordan Hall (PA)
DL Melvin Fellows (OH)
OL Corey Linsely (OH)
FB/LB/DL Zack Boren (OH)
WR James Jackson (MI)
TE/OL Reid Fragel (MI)
DB Dominic Clarke (MD)
DT Adam Bellamy (OH)
WR Duron Carter (FL)
RB Carlos Hyde (FL)
CB Justin Green (KY)
DB/WR Corey Brown (PA)
DB Bradley McDougald (OH)
