I have been there several times, but it is only basically once a year! lol

GO RAIDERS!!!!
It's pretty easy to find. Get on 33 west from state route 7. Travel about 30 miles up 33 west to St Rt 78/Nelsonville/Hocking college exit. Turn right on st rt 78 or burr oak road(whatever it's called) and travel about 1.5 to 2 miles and turn left on 12th street. Go about 100 feet and the school is on the left.

Once you see the stadium lights on 78 slow it down to 35 mph because it's a speed trap. So is 33 west from Athens to Nelsonville(55mph)

We always hear about the 2003 RV team....They might be one of the better teams in school history, but that really isn't saying a whole lot. Honestly, if they played GAHS that year it wouldn't have been much of a game. I don't remember anyone with any real speed on that team. Can someone remind me who played the skill positions?

Won't argue Gallipolis would have absolutely rolled our team.

As for skill players, we had Joey Graham at QB. Our Tailback was fast as he was the one who ran back the kick return. His name was Charley Nibert. Riley Rice was our wing back and he had speed. Honestly, I can't remember who our fullback was but I think it was Justin Hudnall. I can't really remember our receiving corp, but we normally only played with two or three wide. Pete Saunders was one of our receivers. We had Ryan Burger as our TE, he was just big. We probably had the best punter around. His name was Derrick Smith. Our line was pretty big and athletic. I do think this edition of the Raiders has better athletes and nobody on our team was as good as the Wray kid. Plus, Dayton is a true QB. Joey was more of a tailback playing QB, but he could run well. I'd say we had a great running game and could move the ball on the ground better than this current edition, especially between the tackles, but we didn't have even close to the passing attack this team has. I'm not sure you can really compare the teams much because the high school game has changed so much since then. Hardly anybody ran a spread and you could really win with fewer athletes. Today's game requires so much more athleticism out of skill players. Defense has even changed pretty drastically since then too. D-lineman are so much quicker now. Never thought I'd see three men fronts in high school. In '03, very few played with four men fronts. It's just too different. But, if I had to give an edge based on an athletic standpoint, this year's team is probably more athletic.

2003 RV played 4 playoff teams
2003 NY played 2 playoff teams

Now you say something about Gallia. Gallia beat Athens by two scores. Athens blew out NY.

Gonna be a fun evening. I expect both teams to be ready to play tonight. There is a lot riding on this game for the Raiders. In order to get respect, one must earn it. Tonight an opportunity for the Raiders to earn a little respect. If they can go into Nelsonville and come away with the "W", it will not only send a message to the rest of the TVC that the Raiders might be for real, but it will send a message to themselves reassuring the players, coaches and fans that the Raiders are a good team.

I am excited to see how this years team reacts to pressure tonight. Best of luck to the Raiders!!

GO RAIDERS!!!!

Respect is something the the Raiders have not deserved in the past. Not at all. But, with a win tonight, I would be on the bandwagon preaching the Raiders as a playoff team. That in mind, a loss would not be the end of the season, but could turn the momentum in a direction that none of us want to go .........so just go get the win and see if the playoff talk begins.......fyi.....the Raiders have never seen the postseason.

So what's your point?

GA lost to Ironton that year. Had close wins over Jackson and Portsmouth. Beat Athens by 2 td's and nobody else was within 3 scores. Looks like very few gave them much of a game.

Nelsonville has 2 major problems...line play on both sides of the ball and VERY undisciplined....I counted at least 17 penalties I could remember...many the 10 or 15 yard variety. They will be lucky to win 1 more game this year if both of those don't improve.
