Week 5 GAHS to face powereful PPHS Friday
Week 5 GAHS to face powereful PPHS Friday
Week 5—Pt. Pleasant (4-0) at Gallipolis (0-4)
Question.
How do you stop a team that is averaging 59.7 points per game and giving up only seven points per game?
Gallipolis (0-4) will find out Friday when the Blue Devils host Pt. Pleasant’s Big Blacks (4-0) in Gallia Academy’s annual athletic hall of fame game on Memorial Field.
The Blue Devils are scoring 12.5 ppg and giving up 27 ppg.
This will be the 81st meeting between the two teams since the 1922 campaign. GAHS owns a 40-35-5 edge over the West Virginians who have virtually everybody back from last year’s team which beat GAHS 58-3 at PPHS.
GAHS will be facing a veteran PPHS team with 16 freshmen listed on this year’s varsity squad.
Pt. Pleasant wins hav e been over Lincoln County, 62-7, 64-6 over Ripley, 64-8 over rival Wayne and 57-7 over Logan, W. Va.
GAHS has lost to Meigs, 26-12, River Valley 27-13, Washington CH 34-13 and Marietta 21-12. Blue Devil foes have a combined record of 12-4 thus far this fall.

Is the Safford boy any relation to former PPHS coach Steve Safford?
Re: Week 5 GAHS to face powereful PPHS Friday
Kind of a silly question really, no one truly stops a team averaging 60 a game unless their first 4 opponents were just garbage. You simply have to play mistake free football, use your offense to control the clock and minimize the number of touches they have on offense. With that being said I don't believe Gallipolis has the team this year to do any of that but played the right way maybe they can come away with a morale victory.Jottings wrote:Week 5—Pt.

Thanks, gobigblacks. Steve's Dad Bill was an outstanding Blue Devil gridder in the early 1940s before moving to Pt. Pleasant. Steve was an outstanding Big Black in the late 50s or early 60s.

Not going to be pretty. PPHS is primed for a state title.
Cue the Bevo insults because he has nothing better to do.

3 of 4 are not really any good.
Lincoln County (0-4) 2nd worse AAA in WV
Ripley (0-4) will finish 13 or 14 in the Mountain State Conference
Logan, WV (2-2) 1 of their wins is against Lincoln County, the other is against winless and the worse AAA team in WV Shady Spring.
Only team that Point has beaten with a heart beat is Wayne (2-2)

Boy...that 2nd worse AAA had Princeton down pretty late in 2nd q, same team that played Martinsburg well. If they're second worse...where is Martinsburg?
As for Ripley...what was it, 21-14 last week late 3rd q against Spring Valley? Same team that knocked off the mighty South Charleston last week.

Come on gobigblacks,
Everyone knows that Lincoln County can't beat anyone in AAA except for Shady Spring.
Name me 2 teams that will finish lower than Ripley in the MSAC
I'll give you Nitro

gobigblacks,
I'm not tearing apart the Big Blacks schedule on purpose,
Its just a fact that so far the only decent team Point has beaten is Wayne.
The best team left on your schedule is Parkersburg South

Your post is an opinion.
My post was a fact.
I don't know will finish higher, lower, or tied with them....it was Spring Valley 21 Ripley 14 at the end of the third quarter last Friday. Same team that held SC to 14 and beat them just one week before.
And honestly....LC is better than Ripley.

Re: Week 5 GAHS to face powereful PPHS Friday
Not really concerned about points schedule. Point is probably the best team gallia will see this year... game was ugly last year and I look for the same thing this year.. Thank god we have a running clock, look for point to rest there starters after halftime. Looking forward to seeing one of the top teams from the area. Sorry to point out this is not a winnable game for the blue. Just hoping both teams play an injury free game..
