Wk 5: Wheelersburg @ Jackson
Re: Wk 5: Wheelersburg @ Jackson
Also....After reading these last 2 pages, I think this thread needs to be taken down or something. It is way too personal. And some of the comments are what is "Horrible and Pathetic".
High school football talk can bring the worst out of people. And it's certainly happened here.

Re: Wk 5: Wheelersburg @ Jackson
My experience last night. The bad part-Wet, cold, couldn't see over all the umbrellas most of the time, and disappointed our team lost. The good part- watching a Wheelersburg team who had a plan and executed it well, the spirit and enthusiasm of Burg's fans, and seeing the best half time show so far this year. Now let's get ready for next week. Go Red !!!

I was really impressed by the Wheelersburg offensive line play. They dominated the whole game, and got the yards they needed. Wheelersburg defense was very solid, and kept the Ironmen in check all night. Great game for the Pirates, not so great for my Ironmen.

02, not to keep this thread going, but Burg has 1 returning starter on the oline in Hall and he moved from center to guard which I think is huge plus for this type of offense with 4 first time starters. He can now pull either side and may be actually calling blocking scheme but not sure. Qb is new. Wide receiver last yr I think. Howard, burk and Darnell are back but u know what I'm getting at. It's not like Jackson played the same caliber offense as last yr, maybe we weren't as predictable. Maybe we ran different routes out of predictable sets. I didn't get to go to the game. I listened on radio and was surprised at many of the offensive plays ran out of sets and couldn't believe who got the ball. Lastly, I'm glad we have the athletes to play dline that are big. I loved the peach kids a few yrs back, but I like this betterironman02 wrote:Jackson lost two three-year starters and another very good lineman from last year's team, not to mention one of the best blockers I have ever seen personally at the high school level (David Shaw of Stanford agrees) that played TE. They have one lineman playing out of position, and aren't very experienced overall up front. I have only watched one game in person, but I have seen the other games online. The offense is struggling because the Ironmen are still working things out up front, in my opinion. Not to mention that they have played several VERY good football teams, one right after the other.
There were several mistakes tonight (Pick Six, Onside kick recovered by Burg to start the 2nd Half, missed opportunity in a goal-to-go situation, fumbled snaps, etc). Those mistakes can't happen against good football teams, and that's why the Ironmen didn't get it done tonight. The fact remains, though, that prior to the loss tonight, Jackson had won 17 straight regular season games. They've had a lot of success over the last few years (two 10-0 seasons, 3 SEOAL titles since Hall came to Jackson, 3 trips to the playoffs including two playoff wins), and this is a very talented group again this year. They just need to keep getting better, eliminate the costly errors, and they'll be fine. Still some tough games left on the schedule, but there's a chance to win an SEOAL championship, and a shot at the playoffs still on the line. It's really tough to go 10-0. It's even harder to do it two years in a row. As was mentioned before, learn from the loss, and move on.

demaniac1,
I wasn't trying to take any credit away from Wheelersburg. I actually made a post on the Burg thread this week commending them for their physical play, and essentially beating Jackson at its own game.
In this thread, someone mentioned that Jackson's offense isn't producing like it was last year. The first part of my post addressed that. Also, Jackson needed to play a near perfect game to beat Wheelersburg. They did not, and you can't afford costly mistakes against a team of that caliber. That was the reason for the second part of my post.
Again, good luck to Wheelersburg the rest of the way. Very impressed with your team and look forward to seeing what they can do in the playoffs this year.
