Portsmouth West qualified for state at their home competition Saturday. They had a change of band directors two years ago, and it looks like he has done a good job of continuing the success of his predecessor.

Fairland has a great band. They have been invited to perform at the OMEA All-State Conference in Cleveland this coming year.
They also have a lot of students selected to the All-County and All-District bands each year.

Got to give a shout out to Belpre.

Back in 2009 (I think) they had 7 instrument playing members in the marching band. The BOE elected to drop marching band due to lack of involvement by the students.

3 years letter they hired a new band director Bill Van Pelt who breathed new life into the marching band at Belpre. I think they are up to around 50 instrument playing members in the marching band now.

The kids really seem to enjoy his teaching and leadership and this former alumni supports both his and the students efforts in bringing the Pride of Belpre back.

I might add that Mr Van Pelt is also the choir director as well and does an outstanding job in both departments.
