Re: 1989 Teams
I would take the teams who won the state championship in bigger divisions over the team who lost before the Final Four.

Re: 1989 Teams
If one of those teams won state in d5 then that means they had to beat st Henry with hoying and hardings. So I'll take the team that beat them.

Yes there was d5 burg was d4 and I was wrong the st Henry teams in question were 1990 to 92
Re: 1989 Teams
There were five football divisions in 1989.
Ironton won the DIII state title and Wheelersburg won DIV.
Minster was the DV champion that year.

Re: 1989 Teams
Green went 10-0 in 89 (in 90 also). ND,East, and Valley were probably best wins . Beat Trimble bad in first ever playoff game then lost to a very good Shadyside team in Lancaster the next week.
Re: 1989 Teams
Yep, Shadyside lost 14-0 to McDonald in the state semis. Green definitely had some solid teams back then.
Re: 1989 Teams
I heard that 1989 Green team lost some starters to Waverly that year who waa also good. Solid team

One of the best years for SEO? Symmes Valley also went 10-0 but lost to Shadyside.

Hoot----the famous Jeff Holbert was the WR on that Trimble team in 1989---they just put that entire team in the Trimble HOF this year.

Holb's my favorite Tomcat Wideout !! Green was very good those 2 years and before season started they did lose very good players to Waverly and Valley ..
Re: 1989 Teams
I work with Brian Williams, he tells me a ton of past Green story's. Thought they lost to Newark Catholic but that must of been 1990?

1990 Green did lose to Newark Catholic in Regional final after beat Caldwell in opening playoff game. Newark Catholic was lead by Rob Kelly who ended up starting for Ohio State and then played in NFL. He was a load that game ..

Yes, Waverly lost to Hamilton Badin in the regional championship after thumping CAPE in the first round. Portsmouth West lost 20-7 to Ironton and 21-20 to Wheelersburg that year.
