I have decided that we need to find a university which will confer a degree in Football Coaching (Madden Specialty).
At least that's what I'm going to blame for the current rush of armchair coaches who sit in the stands and at their keyboards and claim to have all the answers for why their football teams aren't as good as they think they should be.
I mean, all you have to do is tell a high school kid what to do, and he'll do it right every time. You hand a teenager the keys and don't even bother with car insurance, right?
It's just like in the video game. Kids are perfectly programmed, interchangeable widgets on the field. They enter ninth grade perfectly ready to go and execute flawlessly. When your teams fails, it must just be that the guy with the headset doesn't have a clue.
You can become an expert playcaller by playing a simulation, or even by just watching the game. I mean a guy even wrote a book about it...

As a wise colleague of mine once said, " We need more plays."

I am not sure what spurred this rant. Let's also remember it is a team sport. Being competitive in a game is the responsibility of the entire team, Including the guy wearing the headset. Sometimes they don't have a clue just like that ninth grader.

Just had to laugh-good post
The easiest place to coach from is the stands, been there done that-have the T-shirt to prove it. Have not made a single mistake this year!

We have a whole staff of dudes that are top notch at Madden and NCAA football on Xbox. We been using those plays plus we are now getting an influx of stragety courtesy of an old athens playbook. Plus. I hear they are recording Kirk Herbstreit and watching as much college gameday as they can to get ready for the tornadoes.

From another thread,
The most important coaching quote ever comes from a science-fiction novel...
"Knowing what to do with a (team) is easy," Ender said. "It's getting them to do it that's hard."
-- ENDER'S GAME
The Football Einsteins, the Pigskin Geniuses, the Monday Morning Quarterbacks... they are all blissfully ignorant of this reality.
