Re: Friday only playoff games
Hate it. I loved being able to see a game on Friday and then seeing another on Saturday

it's a mistake. personally i think it will affect the crowds

Re: Friday only playoff games
Does anybody know the rationale they gave for making this move?
This has to lower the crowd sizes because many people took in two games each weekend.

Re: Friday only playoff games
I heard that it was because of college playing on Friday nights..thinking it would impact high school.

Re: Friday only playoff games
I am going to head to PA or W.Va for Saturday playoff football.
I think this is a gigantic mistake and will hurt the crowds even more, especially in the 2nd,3rd and fourth rounds.

Re: Friday only playoff games
The OHSAA gave a few reasons.
1. People were staying home on Saturdays to watch college football and thus it was affecting attendance at Saturday games.
2. Kids want to play on Friday nights.
3. They reason they now have enough officials and sites to do them all on Fridays.
They had a couple more but I can't remember them.
I personally don't like it. I like being able to go to multiple playoff games each week.

Re: Friday only playoff games
I would like to see the divisions play the day their championship game would be. For example if I knew my division title game was going to be thursday night I would rather my first playoff game be on thursday rather than lose a day of practice for the state title game. In the long run I guess it only affects two teams losing a day, but as a creature of habit it would be better to play all the games in the playoffs on that day.

I like this format
Friday
I would go with Div 1, 3, 5 & 7
Sat 2,4 & 6
Friday 7:30 kickoff
Saturday 7:00 kickoff
I could even live with every other year switching D-1 and D-2 every other year.

Re: Friday only playoff games
The only thing different with this is that they swapped the Friday Saturday for divisions every year the old way.LICKING COUNTY FAN wrote: ↑Sun Oct 08, 2017 12:40 pm I like this format

Reason 2 is bogus. If kids are in the playoffs they’ll want to play wheneverOrange and Brown wrote: ↑Sun Oct 08, 2017 12:16 pmThe OHSAA gave a few reasons.

Re: Friday only playoff games
Trying to find enough quality refs to cover this amount of games will be impossible. Congrats your team just made the playoffs, now you will go play in a game with some very mediocre referees!! Good Job OHSAA, way to think it through again!!

I don’t think refs will be hard to find I mean it’s still going to need a 1/3 of what we have on a normal Friday night.

Re: Friday only playoff games
Doesn’t change a thing. Playoff officials only call one game a weekend anyway. So your argument isn’t valid.baseball16 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 08, 2017 7:10 pm Trying to find enough quality refs to cover this amount of games will be impossible. Re: Friday only playoff games
In reality, this actually increases the amount of good officials available.
Many of the best OHSAA refs also call college games. When they have to choose Saturday playoff games or college games, the college games win every time.
