Playoff Records of Wheelersburg, Ironton, and Steubenville
In looking at the playoff histories of Wheelersburg, Ironton, and Steubenville, I found it interesting how these 3 prominent schools have fared in their playoff accomplishments. Listed below is the playoff record of each school, including 2017's first round results:
Wheelersburg: 29 appearances, overall record 31-27, 1 state title (1989), 0 State Runnerups, 6 Final 4's (2015, 1998, 1994, 1991, 1989, 1981)
Ironton: 33 appearances, overall record 45-31, 2 state titles (1979, 1989), 6 State Runnerups (1999, 1993, 1992, 1988, 1982, 1973), 11 Final 4's (1999, 1995, 1993, 1992, 1989, 1988, 1985, 1982, 1979, 1975, 1973)
Steubenville: 30 appearances, overall record 62-26, 3 state titles (1984, 2005, 2006), 5 State Runnerups (2016, 2015, 2008, 1987, 1988), 17 Final 4's (2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2009, 2008, 2006, 2005, 2003, 1994, 1991, 1990, 1989, 1988, 1987, 1985, 1984)
Both Ironton and Steubenville have played in 8 state championship games, with the Big Red having a 3-5 record, while the Fighting Tigers are 2-6. Wheelersburg is 1-0.
3 great programs that have been consistently good over the course of the OHSAA's playoff history. Currently, Wheelersburg, is far and away the best program in the SE district, but Ironton does have a decided edge in playoff wins, state runnerups, and Final 4 appearances.

Burg will pass Ironton in 5 years in every category but being a bridesmaid. Steubenville will outpace both.
Re: Playoff Records of Wheelersburg, Ironton, and Steubenville
So you're saying the Burg will win 2 state titles in the next 5 years?

Find it fascinating how Stuebenville likes to make out like they are god's gift to HS football when they constantly demonstrate what a train wreck they are. Good thing the OHSAA had to step in and tip the scales for them this season by moving Hartley up otherwise Reno and his underlings would be facing a third straight loss to the Hawks.trojandave wrote: Thu Nov 09, 2017 7:05 pm In looking at the playoff histories of Wheelersburg, Ironton, and Steubenville, I found it interesting how these 3 prominent schools have fared in their playoff accomplishments. You said surpass in all but state runners up. They won't even surpass in wins. Their only chance to surpass appearances is if Ironton continues on their current path downward. Other than that, squat.thebarlowbandit wrote: Sat Nov 11, 2017 10:24 pmNeed one to tie it, but they will surpass in appearances and wins79Tiger wrote: Sat Nov 11, 2017 10:03 pm So you're saying the Burg will win 2 state titles in the next 5 years?

Re: Playoff Records of Wheelersburg, Ironton, and Steubenville
Burg will pass in appearances, they are only 4 away from tying Ironton. I can see Ironton missing in the coming years, since the rest of the OVC has caught up to them. Coal Grove looks to be on top for at least another year or two, and Gallia is on the rise.79Tiger wrote: Mon Nov 13, 2017 3:08 pmYou said surpass in all but state runners up. Re: Playoff Records of Wheelersburg, Ironton, and Steubenville
If Burg goes on a run they could surpass all of them. I did say if, so don’t jump all over me. Ironton is down for the foreseeable future. They may make another appearance in the next 5 years. But I would count on it the next 2. They have a tough road to hoe.79Tiger wrote: Mon Nov 13, 2017 3:08 pmYou said surpass in all but state runners up. They won't even surpass in wins. With the MAC out of DVI, yeah, Burg could bring two titles home. Would not be surprised one bit if they did.79Tiger wrote: Mon Nov 13, 2017 3:08 pmYou said surpass in all but state runners up. Sorry, yes, I️ meant DV, and the MAC schools left in DV have not been of much account. Burg can definitely play with them night in and night outJolly P(irate) wrote: Tue Nov 14, 2017 6:12 pmYou mean DV.
