So it sounds like if they don't get them away from the Pickerington's and Gahanna's of the world they are gone. It's interesting because I would think the travel is short where they are at now than if they would realign.

A drive to Newark is actually shorter distance (same drive time)cbolt wrote: Tue Dec 05, 2017 7:18 pm So it sounds like if they don't get them away from the Pickerington's and Gahanna's of the world they are gone. Than to Gahanna and Grove City. Canal, Groveport, Logan, Teays valley are all within a 25 mile radius of Lancaster. Travel would definitely not be an issue.
Re: "Hypothetical" new D1/D2 league south of Columbus
Right, I mean if they were to realign and stay in the OCC, you won't get much closer than both Pickerington's. I guess they would want both Pickerington's and Gahanna out and bring in Groveport, Nerk and Canal in if they were to stay in OCC ?
Re: "Hypothetical" new D1/D2 league south of Columbus
I think Lancaster knows they simply can't keep up year in and year out in the occ. And they already lose games in some sports to logan, teays, and canal, so its not like them being the largest school in the proposed league would give them a huge advantage. I like the idea and some of the rivalries in it would be really good.
Re: "Hypothetical" new D1/D2 league south of Columbus
1st thing you think of when starting a league is football and Lancaster would just kill too many of these schools. Why get beat up in the fall with taking a chance of not having some of your best in the winter sports or even all year.
Zanesville
Newark
Logan
Canal
Teays Valley
Groveport
this is all we need....having Lancaster would hurt any chance of expanding

I would have to agree about Lancaster. Football drives the bus and right now, Lancaster would be the Athens of the TVC in that sport. Things are more even in the other sports, so that would be a big risk for the success of this league IMO.noreply66 wrote: Wed Dec 06, 2017 5:46 am 1st thing you think of when starting a league is football and Lancaster would just kill too many of these schools. IMO Lancaster would be the Athens of the TVC in just about every sport.CruiserChief95 wrote: Wed Dec 06, 2017 8:33 amI would have to agree about Lancaster. Re: "Hypothetical" new D1/D2 league south of Columbus
I think this is the league for the big schools south of Columbus if you could get everyone on the same page. I do agree that Lancaster would dominate in football to an extent, but it still might be the best option for the teams involved.
Lancaster (729)
Newark (659)
Groveport Madison (656)
Logan (500)
Watkins Memorial (465)
Canal Winchester (450)
Licking Heights (449)
Teays Valley (441)
Hamilton Township (351) and Zanesville (341) are probably both too small for this new league. I would assume Hamilton will stay put in the MSL. The ECOL on the other hand made a mistake when they added Marietta to the league. They are too far from the central core of the league, and it has hurt with any further expansion. It won't happen, but the league should look into dropping Marietta and adding Tri Valley. That would cut way down on travel times while making the ECOL the premier league in eastern Ohio. Not to mention Tri Valley has outgrown the MVL much like Logan outgrew the SEOAL.
Tri Valley (376)
Dover (376)
New Philadelphia (359)
Zanesville (341)
Cambridge (234)
Lancaster (729)
Newark (659)
Groveport Madison (656)
Logan (500)
Watkins Memorial (465)
Canal Winchester (450)

Looks like Zanesville could be on board. Short read, but at least they are putting it out there that discussions have taken place.

If this is going to be more than 6 I would go with
Canal Winchester
Groveport
Licking Heights
Logan
Newark
Teays Valley
Watkins Memorial
Whitehall
Zanesville
This would allow for one old rival school
Also have 2 Div. 1---6 Div 2---1 Div 3
Canal Winchester
Groveport
Licking Heights
Logan
Newark
Teays Valley
Watkins Memorial

Re: "Hypothetical" new D1/D2 league south of Columbus
I totally agree with that group in leaving out Lancaster and Reynoldsburg. It seems the driving force behind the OCC schools wanting out is that these are all single school districts and are at the mercy of the Westervilles, Olentangys and Hilliards who have multiple votes in shaping the upcoming reshuffle of the OCC. This was pretty obvious during the last shuffle when Canal, Groveport, Newark, Big Walnut, New Albany and Franklin Heights all got put in the OCC Capital. It's kind of an "outlier" division and has played out that way over the past couple years. With the inevitable reshuffle, Groveport is now looking at getting put back in a division with Pick North, Gahanna and Grove City. That's a murderers row for all sports and something that we are not at all interested in.
Re: "Hypothetical" new D1/D2 league south of Columbus
How about 3 divisions
Div. A
Reynoldsburg
Lancaster
Newark
Groveport
New Albany
Div B
Franklin Heights
Logan
Watkins Memorial
Canal Winchester
Licking Heights
Div C
Teays Valley
Big Walnut
Hamilton Township
Zanesville
Sheridan
Four division games
four cross over-- two from each other divisions
2 games from out of the conference

I wasn’t given that information. Just told me to expect a big announcement in the coming weeks following their next Board of Education Meeting. If I get anymore information I will definitely pass it along.Raider6309 wrote: Thu Jan 25, 2018 7:21 pmWhat is the announcementSportfan97 wrote: Thu Jan 25, 2018 6:49 pm Been told by the Principal at Lancaster High School a major announcement is coming very soon from the Athletic Department
