Bowl match up Michigan vs. Houston?

Post by cool cucumber »

Not good news for UM in my opinion, Case Keenum will pick this UM D apart..

1. Not a certainty at this point. Michigan is #16 and their season is done, they have to get to #14. If Wisconsin beats Michigan State some voters may not drop them below Michigan due to the head-to-head win and winning the division. However, the growing feeling is that they'll sneak in to the #14 position following Georgia and Big Ten title game losses.

2. Michigan dominates Houston. Houston is no where close to being a top team. Keenum and the Cougars are so vastly overrated it's ridiculous. Their only two "quality" wins are in the first weeks of the season: four point win over UCLA and a ONE point win over Louisiana Tech.

They can score points, but they won't score enough to beat a team like Michigan. Their defense is much improved and played MUCH stiffer competition. Add that with Robinson and their own offensive power it's likely to see a 14+ point game in the 30's and 40's. In my own opinion. I'm not impressed with Houston putting 60 points up on their level of competition. They are not Boise, they are not the Utah's of the past. This is a smaller version of when people got excited about Mike Leach's TTU teams or June Jones' Hawaii schools...

That's the rumor!!! Houston still has to beat S.Miss first and things fall right for Michigan!!! Tho I think that both will happen!!! With both teams having high scoring offenses and little defense...wonder what the over/under would be on this game???

As far as Michigan easily beating Houston IDK!!! That's what everybody said about Wisconsin vs TCU last year!!! And we all know how that turned out!!!

1. Michigan needs a lot of help imo to get into a BCS bowl. I don't know if they will get enough to move on.

2. I can tell you only watched one maybe two UM games all year. The Michigan defense gave OSU the ball twice on turnovers and gave it to them deep in UM territory. UM didn't play the best game against ND or OSU, but they did enough to win. Must have missed the defense v Nebraska.

3. To beat UM I believe Houston would have to match the level of physicality of this UM team, which past Utha, Boise, and TCU teams were capable of. I don't think so with this Houston team.

4. If Michigan can get into the Sugar bowl, who knows what will happen. I believe UM will probably be a 10 point favorite if they play Houston.

This. And it's worth noting that the Michigan v. Houston rumors started BEFORE the release of the most recent BCS standings where they dropped to 16th w/ Wisconsin/Michigan State being right there.

And I agree with you on the other points as well. Houston is more like Hawaii than TCU in terms of non-AQ schools that have received hype and buzz in years past, in my opinion. Like peake said, the level of physicality is very different from them to Boise, TCU, etc.

Also, let me edit this in here and peake you can correct me if I am wrong:
With both teams having high scoring offenses and little defense
Michigan has a top fifteen defense. And for frame of reference prior to the UM/OSU game they were ranked #14, OSU #16 and as I mentioned to some fans elsewhere who continued to believe that Michigan's defense wasn't improved or solid -- the higher ranking than OSU comes from playing a statistically more difficult SoS than them as well.

If I was anyone I would not overlook Houston and their passing attack.

1.) UM will not sack Keenum all game. Every play he gets rid of the ball in under two seconds.

2.) Keenum is not the only guy I would worry about. Houston has surrounded him with what the experts say is some of the fastest skill players in the country.

3.) Houston is well coached.

I'm going to have to disagree with #1 there. If this game happens, UM will be to much for Houston's OL to keep him from getting sacked and he does not get the ball away in under two seconds every play!

I don't know that Michigan's D won't sack Keenum, but at the pace that Houston runs its offense, it will be a task to keep up. I think this would be an exciting game to watch if Houston's O runs the way it has all season. Houston will have to be more physical on both sides of the ball.

My prediction on the OSU - Penn State game two weeks ago was the first team to 17 would win and that happened. I'll do the same if this matchup happens but it will be the first team to 40 will win. How's that !!!!! 8)

haha Well right now it looks like Southern Miss is ALL OVER Houston!! Who knows if houston is even going to make it. I'm excited to watch this Texas vs Baylor game. RGIII is so exciting to watch. More exciting than Denard just because he can also throw the ball!

Well, at least they got exposed now instead of taking up a spot in the BCS. Southern Miss is a solid team year in and year out, and this year they were 9 points from being undefeated themselves.

No. They didn't win their conference, TCU did. That will keep them out.

Edit: TCU is a potential match-up for Michigan if they crack the top 16. But still a lot to be decided.
