Yep, I believe that was 2013 or 14. Didn't have very big numbers on the freshmen team, and had too many injuries happen, and it kept them from fielding a team that year. Got a couple freshmen games in then the injury bug hit them hard.

Re: Logan is at a crossroad
Logan has also had HUGE number of freshmen playing JV football - which was also a basically "never happened" prior to around 2013 or so.
Guys like Angle, Conrad, Harden - not to mention linemen like Kiger, Bumgardner, and Russell - played freshmen football. With the exception of maybe Harden and Russell, those guys all went straight from freshman football to Varsity completely skipping JV ball.
This isn't a knock on coaches for doing it - but again - its a symptom of a faling program.
Re: Logan is at a crossroad
Back in 1963 if Johnson wasn't the QB Mel could have possibly had freshman Gasser at QB. He was mostly known as a flanker but even as a freshman he could have made the defensive team. Just didn't need him on the varsity with all their talent.

Logan
Teays Valley
Groveport
Reynoldsburg
Whitehall
Licking Heights
Watkins Memorial
Zanesville
Lancaster
Newark
Canal Winchester
Good for Logan. I know Logan and Zanesville tried again to get in the MVL very recently and the MVL rejected it.
Re: Logan is at a crossroad
I could be wrong, but it seems like the whole freshman to varsity phenomenon started as soon as Wolfe took over. They started attending varsity practices and suiting up on Friday nights because he wanted them to get that experience as soon as possible, and as a result more of them eventually started playing on Friday as the years rolled on, I don't think it started as a need, but just as a coaching preference or philosophy. Some coaches are different in how they want to play underclassmen that young, people just have to have trust that they see them all the time and know who will give the the best chance to win.

Re: Logan is at a crossroad
I know some coaches dress their Frosh as numbers dropped. Didn't play them on varsity, but do on JV. Have a grandson on a D-IV team that dresses 55-60. No Frosh. But we will see teams with 30 kids who dress their 20 Frosh, appearing as a 50 man team. It's deceiving but it keeps "appearance " up, lol.

You know what keeps up "appearances? " Going 8-2 instead of 2-8

I heard the decision will be at the Jan. school board meeting
Re: Logan is at a crossroad
What decision? I mean can you at least elaborate. Is it a formal statement of a league?

Realistic conference
What will the new league look like... realistically! Is Lancaster really going to leave the O.C.C. for a League that might not prepare them for the D-1 playoffs.
