Dickelman I believe had an injury at the beginning of the season-last game I remember seeing him at was Bishop Watterson, the 2nd game of the Season, guess he decided to hang it up. Albin recently quit a few games ago. Saltzman is in a boot till after 1st of Season, stress fracture I heard. Maxfield goes to Georgia for Christmas break, doubt he is here for N-Y or Jackson on the 29th. Williams the transfer was out Tuesday at Marietta-Sick, hopefully he is back Tomorrow night for NY.

Re: NY vs Athens 12/22/17
I posted this prior to the season starting, I still stick with it :
"Athens will be an excellent basketball TEAM by seasons end - the post season ... they will obviously need to have ALL of the players settle into their own roles for TEAM - no one will take the place of Griffin Lutz ... I told 93dog over the early summer that I felt that Athens will go as far as their Bigs will carry them on the inside - Eli Chubb & Justin Hynes both 6-3 juniors ... 2 strong inside players , both have great foot work, both are athletes ! Both need to be worked into the offensive scheme - which I'm sure they will by Coach Cozart ... others who have varsity experience who are strong as well Logan Maxfield ANOTHER 6-3 strong junior ..." 93bulldog was quick to point out my omission of 6-4 Isaiah Butcher - rightly so ! the young man has put himself right smack dab in the middle of any thoughts of Athens being a competitive team this season ... it started in the the Logan game - Butcher played very physical vs Logan Caiden Landis in the 2nd half holding the 6-7 LHS post player to 5 points and the appearance that he wanted nothing to do with the 6-4 280 lb BIG for Athens ... Butcher followed up with a great game in the post and from the perimeter vs Marietta in a 2 point loss ... Butcher/Chubb/Hynes the BIGS , IF Athens runs their offense through the BIGS good things will happen , Athens will be competitive at both ends of the court ...

Athens starting 5 "should" be Williams, Cozart, Chubb, Hynes and Butcher. Butcher coming off great Game at Marietta. Who is 5'10" Post player for NY??bburner wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2017 9:15 am All the players listed - Athens has equal players to replace them with. As long as Williams, Chub, Hines & Cozart are there they are in good shape.
NY is starting. 5-10 kid at post. That is why I favor Athens. NY will need huge games from there "guns" & no foul problems to pull this one out

I would think Boyer would be 6'2 or 6'3 but not sure if he plays a 4 or 5. He's fast though and might be a challenge for Hynes or Butcher to keep up . NY will try and make this a track meet.VisionQuest wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2017 4:01 pmAthens starting 5 "should" be Williams, Cozart, Chubb, Hynes and Butcher. Butcher coming off great Game at Marietta. Should be a good games. Butcher and Hynes are Athens two best players this season along with Maxfield. If Maxfield is playing this will be a 10 point win.

Re: NY vs Athens 12/22/17
I would disagree with you on who Athens "best" players are. But, In the end it really doesn't matter. It's about playing as a TEAM and not trying to be the Hero. Putting your team in a Position to Win by going out on the Court and being an All Around player, contributing offensively with Passing and also knocking down shots, getting rebounds, blocking shots and being a force defensively. Athens seemed to really play as a team against Marietta, hopefully something to build on Going forward. Sadly they came up on the short end of the stick in the 67-65 Loss.morehead state wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2017 4:19 pm Should be a good games. In many ways you are right. Team work matters. As you know that has been the problem. But if the supporting cast can help Chubb, Butcher and Maxfield Athens can win the TVC.
Re: NY vs Athens 12/22/17
With Landis Logan should have taken advantage of Butchers slowness. Should have been hook city all night with that match up.

Re: NY vs Athens 12/22/17
Bohyer handles alot of ball handling duties & also works the high post. Of late though, Robson ( 5-10") & Braden Allen have shared post duties with Bohyer on perimeter.Truth&fiction wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2017 4:12 pmI would think Boyer would be 6'2 or 6'3 but not sure if he plays a 4 or 5. Re: NY vs Athens 12/22/17
I know he gets a ton of rebound and hit the 3s. Is Perry playing or is he out?
Re: NY vs Athens 12/22/17
Perry is out and NY doesn’t need Boyher to be a ball handler - nor a 3 point shooter. They have that. NY’s problem is all they do is shoot from perimeter and NO ONE is underneath- either for rebounds or to feed. I didn’t see 1 pick and roll the other night, no offensive rebounds - horrible play. NY is very stagnate right now and I don’t see how they can come away with a W honestly.
If you ain't first, you're last!
Re: NY vs Athens 12/22/17
Agreed.......They do shoot from perimeter too much & they need some player s to toughen up & help on the defensive end / rebounding. If they could do that - get some stops it would lead to transition baskets. That is how they could come away with a win.therealNY wrote: ↑Thu Dec 21, 2017 10:14 pm Perry is out and NY doesn’t need Boyher to be a ball handler - nor a 3 point shooter. They have that. I wouldn’t be so quick to think Butcher is gonna get beat up and down the floor. I’ve watched this kid against far superior talent than NY or the TVC for that matter has and excel. You don’t make MVP at Buckeye Prep Showcase or Hidden Gems Showcase and not be able to get up and down the floor.
What you don’t understand is the kid is an outstanding football player for the Bulldogs. Like most every single footballer that plays basketball, they spend most of December getting into “Basketball Shape”.
Butcher brings a unique talent to the Bulldogs. A big that plays physical in the paint, can step outside and constantly hit the long ball but more importantly he has a great “basketball IQ” with great vision and passing skills.
The kid played JV last season and up until the Logan game for whatever reason the Athens staff had decided not to play him a lot. As the season progressses he will become even more comfortable within the system and playing in front of the crowds the TVC better look out.
This kid can play!!!

You know I get really sick of reading these posts about "daddy ball." I read it in football, and now basketball and it gets really old. As a mom who has a husband who coaches and a son who plays this is insulting. So if you people who don't like "daddy ball" really have a problem with it keep your thoughts to yourselves unless you have the nerve to talk to the coach, or you yourself put in for the coaching position. Rant over.

Right on! The craziest comments ( & the most ) come from the Athens faithful.
Athens is a well coached program with integrity. There exists no Daddy ball, no trading AAU favors for playing time or anything else. Coach C is doing it right.

Re: NY vs Athens 12/22/17
Seems that most of the posts about Athens basketball should , stop I think. People can feel what they feel and think what they think and it may even be true but it is not helping any player etc by most of these posts. Cheer for your team and favorite player and or child but enough with the posts that intentionally hurt others. People seem to be playing games and when they get games back on them they get frustrated. The odd thing it is always Athens basketball that drawers a million posts and problems. Now if people intentionally post negativity then negativity will come back on them. The coach is making great efforts for his team and the players are there at practice as a unit even if they are sick or injured or if there is a test the next day. It is called student HS athlete. I even assume no body who posts even played D 1 college basketball so the expert analysis does not even exist. Good luck to the Athens staff and players. In fact I support sports in this area so good luck to everybody.
