osu wants to be like the UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE!
Re: osu wants to be like the UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE!
I like how tOSU comes "up short" but they are playing while other teams, even the great UT is watching. Happens quite often it seems. Also while OSU players are recieving recognition as all-americans and Heisman winners and other team's players are not in the running or not in reciept of such honors, I guess other programs have a different goal other than to play for championships, be all-american, or win the Heisman Trophy. I think tradition is defined by consistancy and proven during the course of time. the numbers posted on here answer any question about the better tradition. Ut has tradition and history, just not comparable to tOSU, plain and simple. Time and consistancy = tradition. Paul Brown and Woody or Johhny Majors?? Hmmm!!!!

paul who?
again 2nd place= 1st loser.
tressel-1 championship
fulmer-1 championship
i believe the last time i checked osu and ut were in the top three in putting players in the nfl. to say the two aren't comparable just shows ignorance.
good luck to both teams this year. i would say osu has the advantage this year although two totally different conferences.

I would say the SEC has only shown to be a bit better at the very top, as the overall record between the two conferences has either been even or nearly even. The NFL starters numbers are also close to even, especially when you take into account the number of teams in each conference.
Re: osu wants to be like the UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE!
When it's all said and done this year, OSU will probably finish in the top 5 (again) and Tennessee will be where it's been the past few years - towards the bottom of the top 25, only there because they're Tennessee. Last year, the SEC east was so wildly inconsistent that Tennesssee managed to sneak into the championship game (their lone victory over a team that actually finished the season in the top 25, Georgia, was the big reason).
This year, with games against UAB, Northern Illinois, and Wyoming it looks like Tennessee will be able to muster enough wins to get into another bowl game (They'll at least be half way to bowl eligibility before the final two games against against happless Vandy and owned Kentucky).
In order to make their gutless non-con schedule look decent, they've got toothless PAC 10 opponent UCLA as their opener (after getting burned by overrated Cal a year ago). Attention ALL teams from BCS conferences besides the PAC 10: playing PAC 10 teams (unless you're playing the semi-pro USC, whose players get perks to come play), doesn't make your schedule tougher - we all know that. Well, those are 6 wins that should get the Vols eligible.

Hahaha an Ohio State fan calling out an SEC schedule?

Notice the dont play Pac-10 unless youre playing USC speech. Hmm. How funny. Ohio State is laying the all mighty semi-pro USC team who happened to lose to Stanford last season. Should I also remind you that Ohio State played Washington (an awful Pac-10 team) last season? Also, they have Cal on the books for 2012. But lets lay the blame to the Vols for playing "weak" Pac-10 teams.

hey hey hey this isnt about that ok we have had that arguement on here for ever lets stop it now
ok B10 and the SEC have always been talking smack about schedules but lets not do that here and now too boring
The SEC plays the SEC and that is a fact they dont play any power teams outside the SEC
THe B10 schedules smaller schools alot but still has some big games to play

Youngstown State, Ohio, Troy, hapless Minnesota, Purdue, Northwestern, and Michigan State. Thats a 7 win season right there. Win their home games and they walk away 10-2. Man. What a doozy of a schedule.

Troy has been very good recently and has been scheduled by SEC teams often. Northwestern was bowl eligible last year, as were MSU and Purdue. And since USC has owned the PAC 10 for some time now, that means that there is a difference between them and other PAC 10 opponents. They are the only team in the PAC10 who you can schedule that many years in advance and know they're going to be good (Because USC is notorious for doing whatever it takes to land recruits).
The following are compliments of Phil Steele's College Football 2008 Preview. I'll compare OSU's SOS to some teams in the SEC:
OSU - #31
Auburn - #32
Alabama - #24
Mississippi - #29
Mississippi State - #62
Kentucky - #34
South Carolina - #26
LSU - #19
Compared to those teams, OSU doesn't look much different. However, there are teams in the SEC who have rough Top 20 SOS's so props to them, but consider these guys, too:
Michigan - #15
Illinois - #18
Michigan State - #13
Purdue - #20
There are 6 SEC teams with Top 20 SOS's so it really isn't as big of a difference as you people make it out to be.
The Big 12 only has two teams in it that play a Top 20 SOS:
The Mighty Baylor Bears and the Colorado Buffaloes. Don't even get me started on the ACC...
The Big 10 would take the ACC, the PAC 10, and the Big East to the woodshed in a top-to-bottom throw down and I'd put money on the conference against the Big 12, as well. The Big 10 has done more than hold its own against the SEC in the bowls, so I don't even know why you keep knawing on that bone.

oh, btw whether you finish 2nd or 222nd after the championship game really doesnt matter. if you dont win the championship, everybody else are just losers. im anxious to see what the excuse will be if osu doesnt win the national championship this year, last year it was we were too young, wait til next year.
usc vs georgia for the national championship.

Troy was good, yes. But they will be pretty bad this season from all previews I have read. You really cant schedule any team in advance and know they will be good. Regardless of what you say about landing recruits, there are plenty of factors that it takes to be a good team. Florida could schedule Duke right now for the 2014 season and Duke could be a top ten team. You just dont know. Now grant it, I would say USC would be far and ahead of Duke in 2014, but you just never truly know.

What do Ohio State and Marijuana have in common?
They both get SMOKED in Bowls!!!

They both get SMOKED in Bowls!!!

Re: osu wants to be like the UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE!
Ok, there are only three teams in the Big 10 who don't have an SOS in the top 50. It's not that big of a difference - the Big 10 v. SEC bowl records over the past 10 years or so prove it.
I know that it takes more than just recruits to make a good team, but it helps when you're as deep as USC. They've crumbled against lousy competion in a lousy conference the past two years, but way more often than not on saturdays, they have the most talented and deepest team on the field.

Over the last 15 years?
3 teams from the SEC have combined for 5 titles
2 Teams from the Big Ten have combined for 2 titles
Neither of these stats declare depth of conference.
Also, you should remember that the Big 12 member schools have won 5 national titles in the last 15 years as well.

svd, thx for showing that the big 12 has also been better than the little 11. appreciate that. what is your point? i thought osu played for national championships. if you go back even farther, its even worse for the lil 11.
gee, this topic is about osu's planned village around the stadium. thats it folks.

The post you refer to shows that The "Mighty SEC" is not the King of the World,
as some may claim baised solely on National Titles.

Your right, they don't grow on trees. The Buckeyes have more than LSU and Florida combined.
