2017-18 Logan Cheiftains
Re: 2017-18 Logan Cheiftains
The game to watch will be 12/29 vs Watkins Memorial. They have similar talents as Logan. Two 6-6 kids & they like to feed the post. Stearns is a very good point guard as well.

Re: 2017-18 Logan Cheiftains
Last year at Watkins if I remember we had serious foul trouble , 3 starters sat a lot 1st half . All bigs. Will be a big test for the Purple Gang.
Re: 2017-18 Logan Cheiftains
Logan should do fine against Watkins if Logan is a good as advertised. Watkins is only 3-4 so far, and has a tough game against Gahanna the night before they play Logan, while Logan has the night off, which should have them good and tired when they meet the well rested Chiefies.

Re: 2017-18 Logan Cheiftains
According to the LDN, Logan's game at the Marietta Classic against Huntington Prep "Blue" has been cancelled, as the team from WV won't have enough players to field a team. Organizers for the event are still looking for a replacement team for the Chiefs to play.
Re: 2017-18 Logan Cheiftains
... hard to find a team in OH that doesn't have a 22 game schedule already , wondering if the Marietta organizers are looking toward another WVa team (I don't believe they have a 22 game max on games to play) fill out the tournament menu of teams/Logan opponent ... we will see... Good luck to the Purple & White tonight vs a young/inexperienced BC team at Jim's Gym ! take it to 6-0 !Chieftain2009 wrote: Fri Dec 22, 2017 5:12 am According to the LDN, Logan's game at the Marietta Classic against Huntington Prep "Blue" has been cancelled, as the team from WV won't have enough players to field a team. Re: 2017-18 Logan Cheiftains
Chiefs are a win away from tying the best start in LHS history according to my records (which are back 1936-37 season so far).
The 1976-77 Chiefs started 7-0.
This is the seventh team to start 6-0 - 1984-85, 1987-88, 1994-95, 1998-99, 1999-00, 2000-01, and 2017-18.
Of course, we're a long way from the longest overall win streak of 21 games set by the 1985-86 Chiefs who started 1-1 before winning 21 straight and bowing out of the District tournament to finish 22-2.
The 1976-77 Chiefs started 7-0.

... good stuff loganlocos ! this years Purple & White are a special mix of players - lots of weapons ALL around the court, inside/outside , goto players, excellent defensively, the perimeter folks can guard quick perimeter peoples for the opposition ... the Chiefs can impose tempo while being able to morph into an offensive unit that can play any tempo of game and be successful ... fun to watch that's for sure ...loganlocos wrote: Sat Dec 23, 2017 1:13 pm Chiefs are a win away from tying the best start in LHS history according to my records (which are back 1936-37 season so far).

... I will catch most of the LHS games but as I did last night going to Chillicothe to catch the Cavs vs Unioto, I will miss games for BETTER games ( BC is not the BC teams of the past - inexperienced , no size, all perimeter people - BC was losing big on paper, then back it up on the court vs LHS) around SEOhio - it's what I do YOU know that loganlocos ! LOL
... too bad the Logan folks fumbled the ball in not scheduling Fairfield Union this season, it would have given the Purple the opportunity to move up the rankings ... FU picked up Beechcroft in place of Logan - Beechcroft is the best of the City League - probably not going to end well for FU in that one BUT they will get exposed to the speed, quickness, size of the Columbus City League schools ... FU already opened the season vs Columbus South (the Falcons lone loss on the season) ... the Chiefs don't play any teams close to what either South or Beechcroft put on the court ...
... hope to see you at a game soon loganlocos ! Merry Christmas ! and thanks again for the Central District hoops Christmas reading !

Pfloyd, I think I speak for everyone when I say I appreciate what you do for all the teams in SEOhio. I don't know all the story of not scheduling FU, but I feel like putting all the blame on Logan isn't really fair.pfloyd wrote: Sat Dec 23, 2017 2:39 pm

But, like I said, I don't know the story as to why the game wasn't scheduled.
Re: 2017-18 Logan Cheiftains
... it wasn't a knock on Logan at all - and it really doesn't matter that they don't play other than for my own selfishness as a fan of SEOhio hoops that it's too bad that the once a year games no longer are taking place , a chance to see which team is better on any given night will not take place this season ... FU needed to fill a slot that was left open when Logan didn't want to schedule a game ... FU picked up Beechcroft instead ... it is what it is both teams filled out their schedules , BOTH teams are playing great basketball, BOTH teams are deserving of being in the top 5 of SE Ohio basketball this season THAT is a sure thing right there LOL ...Chieftain2009 wrote: Sat Dec 23, 2017 6:48 pmPfloyd, I think I speak for everyone when I say I appreciate what you do for all the teams in SEOhio. ... I appreciate that YOU appreciate what I do for SEOhio hoops - not many in the Purple & White have the same feelings as you LOL ... but that TOO is what it is ... I'm pretty sure that there will never be a Purple Hippo at center court of Jim's Gym LOL ...

Re: 2017-18 Logan Cheiftains
we know that FU will stay up the rankings , but just because FU and Logan does not play means little . Logan Beat FU last year and most of the players are the same . FU added Conley and Logan has a better 6&7 player than last year. South and Beechcroft are tough games . South beat FU PRETTY GOOD.Beechcroft will be a handful. Logan does play some pretty tough games also (central ohio teams ) and a few W.VA. teams that are pretty darn good . I think TV will give FU some trouble and Logan will play them as well . Thanks Floyd for all the run downs and thanks Loganlocos for sharing info .Merry Christmas to all !!!!pfloyd wrote: Sat Dec 23, 2017 2:39 pm... good stuff loganlocos ! this years Purple & White are a special mix of players - lots of weapons ALL around the court, inside/outside , goto players, excellent defensively, the perimeter folks can guard quick perimeter peoples for the opposition ... the Chiefs can impose tempo while being able to morph into an offensive unit that can play any tempo of game and be successful ... fun to watch that's for sure ...loganlocos wrote: Sat Dec 23, 2017 1:13 pm Chiefs are a win away from tying the best start in LHS history according to my records (which are back 1936-37 season so far).

Re: 2017-18 Logan Cheiftains
* AN UPDATE *
I have my records back to 1925-26 (first year of SEOAL play)- still partially incomplete - but enough to confirm a new "best start"
The 1934-35 Chieftains - who won the school's first ever SEOAL title - started the season 10-0.
The team finished 14-3 and 8-0 against SEOAL competition. It was the start of a decade of dominance for Chieftain basketball, just a few years after the old LHS stage gym opened (1932-33).
The '34 Chieftains also went 10-0 in football, winning the school's first title in that sport as well.
The 1934-'35 Chiefs record:
AT Lancaster St. Mary's (now Fisher Catholic) - WIN, 23-12
VS Columbus West - WIN, 17-8
VS Stewart (now Fed Hock) - WIN, 24-11
AT Nelsonville - WIN, 42-31
VS Groveport-Madison - WIN, 34-25
AT New Boston - WIN, 35-20
VS Pomeroy - WIN, 19-16
VS Nelsonville - WIN, 19-11
VS Middleport - WIN, 26-8
VS New Boston - WIN, 32-20
VS Columbus South - Loss, 25-33
VS Jackson - WIN, 30-15
VS Columbus East - Loss, 25-30
AT Groveport-Madison - WIN, 34-31
VS Wellston - WIN, 20-14
VS New Lexington - WIN, 36-12
VS Greenfield-McClain - Loss, 17-37 (SE Sectional Tournament at Ohio U's Men's Gymnasium in Athens)
