SEOPS All-Star Team
We've got 2 weeks to go until the season is underway, let's make an all-star list like no other out there.
The guidelines:
1) 11 Starters on offense, 11 Starters on Defense, 1 punter, 1 kicker
2) Players from the last 50 years of NCAA football are eligible (freshmen in 1957-58 season)
3) Only one player from any given school per side of the ball (this is the big one)
Before September 1st, I'll compile the results and post our SEOPS All-Star Team.

Re: SEOPS All-Star Team
I'm building my team with a purpose, not just naming the best of the best.
My offense will be built around a strong running game, incorporating a mobile QB.
It must be able to move the ball through the air as well though, so I will need
a strong handed TE and 1 down field receiver and one posession receiver.
My defense will need to have run stopping DTs, pass rushing DEs, and ball hawk LBs.
The secondary will have to be able to shut down their man, and also be able to play the run.
Offense:
LT: Anthony Munoz (USC)
LG: John Hannah (Alabama)
C: Dave Rimington (Nebraska)
RG: Jim Parker (OSU)
RT: Jake Long (Michigan)
TE/WR: Mike Ditka (Pitt) (would have been ozzie newsome if not for Hannah being from Bama)
WR: Randy Moss (Marshall)
WR: Fred Biletnikoff (FSU)
FB: Larry Csonka (Syracuse)
RB: Herschel Walker (Georgia)
QB: Vince Young (Texas) (dual threat and Texas was availible)
With the guideline of only one player per school, this one becomes harder than most. I would have loved to put
Orlando Pace, Chris Carter, Archie Griffin, Ozzie Newsome, or Desmond Howard up there, but John Hannah, Jim Parker, and Jake Long I believe are better options at the positions they played.
I know Jake Long is a LT, but I don't have a problem if anyone moves a player to a similar position.
I'll have my defense posted as soon as possible.

Re: SEOPS All-Star Team
Here's my defense:
Defense:
DE: Hugh Green (Pittsburg)
DT: Bubba Smith (Michigan State)
DT: Rich Glover (Nebraska)
DE: Lawrence Taylor (North Carolina)
OLB: Mike Singletary (Baylor)
MLB: Chris Speilman (Ohio State)
OLB:Dick Butkis (Illinois)
S: Ed Reed (Miami)
S: Ronnie Lott (USC)
CB: Deon Sanders (FSU)
CB: Charles Woodson (Michigan)
There were so many options I wanted to put in here, and could have probably made a list solely consisting of Buckeyes and had a great list.
I put Speilman in because he is great and deserves it, and also because he is my favorite Buckeye. I felt odd not putting Jack Tatum on the list though.
Lawrence Taylor went in as a Defensive End to give my defense the ability to play either a 4-3 or 3-4 with no problem.

Re: SEOPS All-Star Team
WOW SVD, that's some good work. Tough guidelines to follow. Somehow, I'd get Randy Moss out of there and move people around to keep the one player per school requirement. I guess the big thing here is to figure out what type of team you want but I'd go with Earl Campbell (Texas) at RB and find another QB. Maybe one of those machines from BYU, Houston or Miami. With RB's that you've chosen, no need for a QB to run.

Re: SEOPS All-Star Team
Wow! Those lists are tough to beat, all of them are great lists. I would have to say that I would put Bo Jackson in their somewhere maybe even at FB and even consider the killer, OJ. But who could ever really argue Hersh. I absolutely love the Jim Parker pick!!! Arguable the best or most dominant Buckeye ever! Too tough for me so I'll just agree with everyone and add a couple players. If anyone is looking at dual threat type QB then I would take C Ward over V Young all day!! Much more accurate passing but I like Manning at that spot b/c he who relies on the QB to run the ball evidentally is missing some skilled guys and this team couldn't lack skilled guys.
Re: SEOPS All-Star Team
I nominate Eric Crouch for QB
but seriously, he does have a case
2001 Heisman Trophy Winner
2001 Davey O'Brien Award Winner
2001 Walter Camp Award Winner
2001 Big 12 Conference offensive player of the year
One of three quarterbacks in Division 1-A history to rush for 3,000 and pass for 4,000 yards in a career
13th player in NCAA to rush and pass for 1,000 in a season (1,115 rushing, 1,510 passing)
Nebraska career total-offense touchdown leader with 88
Owns Nebraska career records for most rushing yards by a quarterback (3,434)
NCAA record for most career rushing TDs by a quarterback (59)
Set a QB record for most rushing TDs in a season (20)
Tied an NCAA record by scoring a TD via run, pass, reception in the same game

Re: SEOPS All-Star Team
Sorry but if any Nebraska QB were to make the list it would be Tommie Frazier, who may be the best college QB I have ever seen.
Re: SEOPS All-Star Team
I agree peake, Frazier was dominant with a capital D! Crouch had some impressive numbers but was nowhere close to Tommy Frazier.

Re: SEOPS All-Star Team
A lot of 1990s QBs can get the nod depending on the offense you want to run. If youre looking for a pass happy offense you can go with Wuerffel, Detmer, or Manning. If you want an option QB go with Ward. If you want someone who can do it all go with Frazier. Other names that come to mind are Torretta, McNair, McNabb, and Couch. None of these guys are the best ever, although you can argue a few them till youre blue in the face, but would all make great QBs and allow you to use a Kentucky player at QB, opening the door for an Ohio State player at RB, WR, TE, or OL.
Re: SEOPS All-Star Team
Don't forget Mike Vick. I know his name brings bad vibes, but both Corso and Herbie say he is the best college football player they have ever seen. He was awsome and I remember making time to watch him play.
Another great college QB was Drew Brees at Purdue.

I almost threw in Vick, but we only got to see him for two seasons unfortunately so I wasnt really sure how he stacked up to other guys.
