THAT'S 3 SECONDS!!! THAT'S 3 SECONDS!!!
REFEREES
Re: REFEREES
I just count out loud for them. It works every time I do it. It works on 5 second calls too. So next time you want one of those calls just start counting out loud, and loud enough for the refs to hear you. They'll probably thank you like they have me when I've done it.
“Do you want to see bofa?”

Re: REFEREES
I can get a game called anyway you want.....ahem....for the right price. Me and Scotty Dale been working games a long time. We know how to chip away Points and most games the other team doesn't even see it happening. Plus we don't bow down to the stomp or the stare.
It is true that getting help from fans by having them count out loud for both three and five second violations is an enormous help. Most of us can't get that count down while holding a whistle, watching the scoreboard, etc. And they won't let us reference with our shoes off.

Why do parents try to coach their kids from the standsPoo Bear wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2018 8:17 pmIronman92 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2018 8:10 pmOn that thought....why would any coach allow a player to do that and to keep it going....why would any parent let their kid do that?Poo Bear wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2018 7:29 pm Question for officials .
Why do you guys/gals let players show you up after fouls . I bet over 50% of the players stare at the refs or roll their eyes or whatever they do after they've been called for a violation. Saw an official Have a fan in the nose bleed section, escorted from the game by 2 school officials and 2 deputies Friday and the whole game a certain player showed them up every call.
Personally I would warn both teams before the game and call Technical fouls for that behavior .
Thoughts ???
Because coaches and parents aren't always about the right things . Why do coaches cuss plyers , why do parents cuss coaches. They're emotionally involved , the referee shouldn't be and I sure as hell wouldn't let a high school player show me up. But I would warn them first

Because I know the game better and can teach the game better than the idiots that are coaching today. even if I have never dribbled a basketball or thrown a football, or caught a baseball in my life. I've watched it on tee vee and can tell my boy how to do it better! those coaches may have played even at the college level and have been trained to teach the game, but I am still better, smarter and I know I am better looking with my 3 teeth and beautiful mullet!itsme wrote: ↑Fri Feb 09, 2018 9:37 amWhy do parents try to coach their kids from the standsPoo Bear wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2018 8:17 pm

Re: REFEREES
I agree. I don't think any official is ever trying to cheat a team, in particular. The problem I have with certain officials is they NEVER want to blow their whistle. It seems the game is getting rougher and rougher each year. This gives an advantage to the less skilled player and team. This trend started happening about 10-15 years ago and it has gotten out of hand. I don't know if certain officials are just in a hurry for the game to end or if they're paying too much attention to the idiot redneck yelling, "let them play!" The game is more physical at the high school level than it has ever been, though, and the officials need to get it back under control.clevelandbrowns#1 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 02, 2018 1:28 pm Truth&Fiction, mlittle-speed of the game? I personally think the game has slowed down. The majority of the games are actually more sloppily played because of the lack of ball handling, fundamentals of defense and less skilled players. Look on each team and ask yourself how many players have worked on ball handling, shooting, quickness, etc...? If players don't put in time during the off season then the game and others who have pass them by.
Gametime- I personally watch myself 2-3 times a year on film to look at my positioning on court, my mechanics, my partners positioning, etc... I don't know how many other officials do this regularly but I do.
mlittle-AAU? This is a touch subject with coaches and officials. AAU-does have some positives: 1) Kids are playing 2) Kids are practicing 3)Most kids are playing with or against some better players. AAU-does have some negatives: 1) Officiating-It is usually a slugfest (strongest will survive). Then when they come back to play jr.high, or high school ball for their school the game is called tighter because we have to. 2) AAU-is based a lot on one on one and showcasing your skills. Defense is put on back burner for most. 3) players usually have better skilled athletes on their team, then return to school and play with less talent, frustration sets in because of this. Some it actually helps, but most I feel it hurts.
bman-shortage of officials? I agree. Why? 1)How they are treated by some fans at games. How long at your job would you allow people to scream at you, use foul language to you and threaten you? 2) $$$ 3) Time--I work a full time job=up at 5:45, get home and leave my house between 4:30-5:15 to go officiate. Arrive @ varsity game 6:00. Usually get dressed to call game in 3rd quarter of jv game. Call varsity game, leave gym anywhere between 9:15-9:45. Get home between 10:00-11:00. Get up and do it all over again. The driving to and from games is very demanding on us physically and mentally. Plus the wear and tear on our vehicles. I put over 5,000 miles on my vehicle driving to and from my games last year. 4) Behavior of coaches (very few) 5) meetings we have to attend on our off nights 6) Politics
Last but not least, basketball is a contact sport. There will be contact in it, so when you go to a game to watch it, expect it. Not every contact is a foul. We are there to manage the game from a rules stand point. We officiate from angles, from most of the angles that fans are at you can't see the straight up verticality of a defensive player. The block/charge call, the defensive player DOES NOT have to be set. If he/she takes it in the chest then most should call it a charge. The over the back (not in book) but we all know what it is. If there is no displacement or advantage gained then youy shoudn't penalize the player that is taller. Three seconds--you can't have one when ball is being taken out of bounds (that was said twice last night in my game). There are so many more rules that spectators have no clue about but don't have time to list them all.
I promise you all that 99% of us that wear the stripes don't care who wins/loses the game and aren't there to cheat your son/daughter!

Re: REFEREES
Saw a player do that the other night and he got lit up for doing so. And guess what? The coach and the kids parents got mad at the official because he wasn’t putting up with a kids attitude and lack of respect.Poo Bear wrote: ↑Sun Feb 04, 2018 7:29 pm Question for officials .
