Ironton:
Ralph Snead-All around athlete-25ppg.sr yrOhio Univ. Played in N/S game with John Havlechek
Dennis Gagai-Great all aspects of the game .grest shooter/passer--WVU- Northern KY
Charlie Kitchen- Probably best pure long range shooter- 25ppg/12rebds per game sr yr..17 ppg jr yr..18 ppg as soph..South Alabama
Carter-Cant remember first name- Super quick, Leading scorer-- Walsh
Doug Birchfield.6'8 Nice player..Rio Grande I believe...Would also have to mention Damien Pringle..all state tournament team..tough cookie. Also Mick Kitts from years back.

It's hard to say how many more points Snead and Kitchen would have had if there was a 3 pt line when they played. They were hitting 3's without getting extra points.

Don’t know loagans history so based on what I know of the list I’d rank them this way

1. Webster- Roberts was really really good for as big as he was. Aldridge too, but I’m taking out wagonger. He was t there long enough. I’ll throw kaltenbach in place of him though. Really good shooter.

2. Ironton- carter and gagai were very good.

3. Burg- eaton for eaton doesn’t matter both were good athletic basketball players. Burleson was really good. You could make a case for Holden to replace cam miller when he graduates.

Waiting on a Portsmouth list that will probably top any of these teams.

Glenwood [New Boston] Tigers top 5
1. Todd Loper Glenwood's all time leading scorer started as a freshman.
2. Leroy Frazier
3. Charlie Mcgraw
4. Nick Perkins
5. Ryan Morrow
bench for the tigers: Josh Howard, Jason Truitt, Scott Jenkins ,Jon Gose, Jason Risner, Chris Mcgraw , Heck to many to name . Glenwood has had a lot of great basketball players over the years the basketball program has a rich tradtion and has had many great players come thru the program I'm sure I have left off a few names .

Burleson was a stud. I'd almost take Spradlin over Miller from those back to back Final Four teams of the last decade, both were great though.

1. Brett Roberts '88 (Morehead State...led nation in scoring in '92 and drafted by Sacramento Kings in second round)

2. Nick Aldridge '06 (Western Carolina; Mountain State)

3. Brigham Waginger '06 (Western Carolina)

4. Mike Rose '71 (ask the older dudes...he could ball)

5. Brian Dyer '91 (Shawnee State...led NAIA in rebounding his senior year).

Bench: Jeremy Kaltenbach (Marietta); Austin Loop (Marshall); Justin Lower; Jordan Lower; Eric McClintic; Ty Roberts; Jeff Bradley (Cedarville); Michael Coriell.*

I’ve heard if there was a 3 point line back in the day Mike Rose would have an unfathonable amount of points.

Also honorable mention they didn’t specify men’s or women’s. Kayla Cook - 4 years at UC and over 2000 career points.

Not sure if we can claim Brig or not we need to take that up with the Ironton delegation 😂 no doubt that was probably the best combo in SW history

With the incredibly rich history of the Portsmouth Trojans, to narrow the list to only 5 is extremely difficult. I will go, though, with this 5:

1. Larry Hisle (1965).......3rd leading scorer in Trojan history(1,375), first team All-American, played pro baseball for Philadelphia and Milwaukee
2. Jeff Lisath (1978)*.......5th leading scorer in Trojan history(1,256) all time leading scorer in PHS state tournament history (40 points in 2 games), starter on the 1978 PHS state championship team, started at Miami University (Oxford)
3. Craig Tubbs (1979)*......2nd leading scorer in Trojan history(1,485), second leading scorer in PHS state tournament history (39 points in 2 games), starter on the 1978 PHS state championship team, started at Miami University (Oxford)
4. Mike Haley (1961)*.......leading scorer on the 1961 Big School State Champion Trojans(22.0), starred at Ohio University and is a member of their Hall of Fame, coached at Dayton Roth and Dunbar, winning 4 state titles, also coached at Portsmouth 1993-1995
5. Kyre Allison (2016)......all time leading scorer at PHS (1,688 points), started all 4 years, went on to play his freshman year at Marshall University

Others that I have to mention.......Leroy Carr (1954), Curt Gentry (1955), Walt Mannon (1967), Charles Taylor (1969), Mike Lovenguth (1972), Bo Clemens (1974), Marcus Bendolph (1980)*, Chris Gentry (1982), Kyle Taylor and Darrin Miller (1984), David Barnes, Dominic McKinley, Patrick Tubbs (1988)*, Jason Taylor (1989)*, Phil Whitehead (1991)*, Damond Mannon (1992)*, Darnell Lisath (1994), Andrew Bendolph (2011)*, Wayne Evans, Dion McKinley (2012)*, Kendal Reynolds (2017--4th leading scorer in Trojan history--1,341).

13 of these players mentioned played on at least 1 state tournament team. They are designated with an asterisk*.

1. Todd Staker-6’3” 1981-1984-started as a Sophomore-guard who could jump out of the gym. Played on two Final Four teams, 82 as a Sophomore and 84 as Senior. Burg made it to the finals in 84 losing to future NBA player Jerome Lane and Akron St. Vincent 75-71. Todd averaged around 30 in the tourney that year.

2. Andrew Burleson-6’6”, 1998-2002- started as a Freshman-could play about anywhere. Sweet shot and good hops. Could handle the ball very well for being 6’6”. I believe he is the all time leading scorer at Burg.

3. Brad Walke-6’1”, 1980-1983-started as a Sophomore. Guard who could shoot from anywhere or take you off the dribble. If three point shot would have be around he would have scored some serious points. Played on the Burg Final Four team of 81-82.

4. Jonathon Eaton-6’1”-1991-1995-started as a Freshman come tourney time helping lead A Burg team, that I believe had a losing record going to the tourney, all the way to the Regional Final. Playmaker who was good at driving to the basket and dishing off or making the shot. Helped lead Burg to the Final Four in 95 where they lost to a strong Orrville team in the state finals. Upset a strong Cols Bishop Hartley team in the semifinals.

5. Cam Miller-6’7”-2004-2007-started as a Sophomore. Good balhandler for his size. Could shoot the three or beat you off the dribble for a thunderous dunk. Helped lead Burg to back to back Final Fours in 2006 and 2007.
I would put Mark Eaton on this list he started some games as a freshman very good player terrific scorer high basketball I.Q
Also would add Jack Miller I think his senior year was 78-79 not sure but was really good went on to play 4 years at the university of Hawaii

Mark Shaw, '71 - averaged over 20 points and 20 rebounds his senior season and over 20 and 18 as a junior. 2nd all-time leading scorer.

Coy Lindsey, '97 - all-time leading scorer. Great guard who could shoot the lights out.

Kerry York, '86 - had his senior season cut short due to an ankle injury. Was on pace for a 1,000 point career (without playing Varsity as a freshman)

Greg Poston, '68 - school's first 1,000 point scorer. Just a tremendous all-around athlete.

Keith Myers, '86 - teamed up with York for the best two-year run in school history, including a 22-2 season in '85-'86. That team won 21 straight even after York's knee injury and Keith picked up the slack.

This list doesn't include 1,000 point scorers Doug Stiverson ('89) or Patrick Angle ('10).

Others for consideration:
Eddie Joe Grandy ('53)
Gene Morgan ('56)
George Stump ('60)
Jim Pierce ('74?)
Tim Moore ('89)
Eric Burris ('93?)
Kevin Fisher ('14)
Bo Myers ('19)

Anybody else I'm missing, Chieftain fans?
Hard to argue that one. Maybe would add these ones:

Mike McBroom ('77)
Jack Miller ('85)
Josh Lawrence ('00)

From OHHS: Marc Hendrix aka, "Big Red". 6'3-4. He could score from anywhere. 1972-74

Couldn't agree more with Doug Hale!! Rebounding machine.

Can't help with others as I haven't lived in SEO since 1977. I call NW Fla home. Gotta say that I really do enjoy wisdom of pFloyd and others here. Will post from time to time...mainly with questions. Thanks folks, GREAT site!!

Then add Woody Mayle. Larry Hunter was probably better the best PG but from The Plains

Eric Gustavson 1965 or 1966 Harvard. Almost beat the D1 state champs in the regionals
