Wow, just signed a new 7 year contract this past summer that includes a $6 million dollar buyout if he stays through the season.
Somebody has some deep pockets in Knoxville.

Nashville is the home of Vanderbilt
Knoxville is the home of UT

Actually, they have some deep pockets in Nashville too. A few years ago, the Nashville UT booster club paid Wyoming out of their home game, to move the game to Nashville.
I think Rich Rodriguez would be a good candidate for this job.

It will be interesting to see how Tenn finishes the year. I think Kentucky has a good chance of breaking their streak of 23 straight losses to Tenn.

as a UT fan this is the best news a vol fan could have hoped for. should have happened two years ago. WE DO NOT WANT RICH ROD! now maybe we can get back in the top 20 in recruiting again. not taking everyone else's trash(player issues). when david cutcliffe took the duke football job fulmer had to know his days were numbered. cutcliffe was the only coach worth a darn.
one rumor i have been reading is lane kiffin. not sure how i feel about this. dream job for somebody. coaching in the sec. not for the light hearted. major rebuilding project with recruiting (top prospects) being down. alums and diehard fans will want instant results.

Interested in seeing who they get, Lane Kiffin could be a good fit there. He was givin a raw deal in Oakland and that is being proven now as they are not even close to winning games and getting rid of all their key players.

Re: Vols (Viles) Coach Phil Fulmer To Step Down
No one except qualified101 agreed with me around the start of the season when I said that Tennessee had been in decline at least since 2000. Florida and Georgia have been on the upswing while UT has been declining for quite some time and the distance just kept getting wider and wider. Tennessee kept creeping closer and closer to the level of South Carolina and UK. Now all of a sudden they've completely free-fallen.
Also in the SEC: Tuberville is in very hot water at Auburn as well. The conference isn't that great, folks. You've got Florida.... and then it a LONG WAY down to #2.
As I've said all along: SEC teams are inconsistent, not necessarily "evenly matched".

would love to have jon gruden but he has declined according to reports.
Re: Vols (Viles) Coach Phil Fulmer To Step Down
Was down in Tennessee a couple of weeks ago, and spoke to a reporter that follows UT. He reported to me that Gruden's wife and kids already live there and are enrolled in a prestigious private school. This has been in the works for quite some time, and Fulmer's contract was a mere formality to reward him for his years of service.

fulmer was and still is a class act but with all the off the field trouble the last few seasons combined with not winning=gotta go. complacency comes to mind. gotta fill those 110,000 seats.
