The incoming 7th class should be really strong. Some real nice skilled kids.

Re: 2018 Jackson Ironmen Football Outlook
Lol, no we are not. The question is about next year’s 7th and 8th grade football teams. The kids going into 8th grade were very good as 7th graders....and now have one of the better players around added to their team and he has been enrolled and attending Jackson since late February.ShoeHorn wrote: Tue Jun 05, 2018 4:47 pmThey are talking about Evan Spires.

This will be one of the weakest teams Jackson has had in the last 10 years.

Joe Blow off the streets could coach Jackson and go 5 and 5.

Re: 2018 Jackson Ironmen Football Outlook
There was talks of possibly VC boy coming over and being add to that 8th grade group, which I guess we can call them freshman now. Then boy from River Valley coming up and being added to that 6th grade group, now 7th graders which was already loaded with talent toss him into the mix and that group is going to be tough.Ironman92 wrote: Tue Jun 05, 2018 5:11 pmLol, no we are not. Jacob Winters will be on the 2018 8th grade Ironmen team. The 2018 7th grade team has a lot of good genes and will be very good I imagine.

Re: 2018 Jackson Ironmen Football Outlook
Fun topic....all kids that are a year from varsity eligibility or incoming freshman. Not likely Bragg or Evan Spires (if he enrolls) will be huge factors (they might be solid contributing factors). Jared Icenhower is THE quarterback and has worked very hard in the off season. He’s gonna have a big year and will be the QB in 2019 as well. Jackson will be returning most players on defense and a lot of juniors and seniors throughout the positions.
I’ll start with Bragg. 6’1 14 year old. Kid is one of the most skilled/coordinated kids I have been around. Kid can do stuff quickly that takes most other much more practice. He could be good at any position...could be very good at several and could be great at a few. Kid has played a lot of sports. Basketball is his best but he’s a very talented baseball player/pitcher/hitter. He will not be the starting QB I feel as a fresh or soph (I’ve been wrong before)....he could be a tight end, fill a role on defense or even kicker/punter. He’ll be a ready back up at QB. It’s tough to play the 3 main sports. If he does he may be a 12x letterman. I don’t know how he exactly figures in the JHS football program as far as what position the next few years but if he Is a kid the coaching staff can plug in where he’s needed and he’ll do great. His natural skill set does remind me of Joey Boggs. Should be a fun watch over the next few years.
Evan Spires....another good size 14 year old that is very skilled. He’ll compete for multiple positions I’d guess and if he does enroll will be a very good Ironmen player at football/basketball. Great kid and family. Always been a big fan of his.
Jacob Winters...showed up for conditioning of jr high track and looked like a man compared to most of those kids. Not a lot of 7th grade kids in Feb grabbing the rim, high jumping 5’0 without knowing what he’s doing and speed to run with most of the 8th grade sprinters across the area. I’ve not seen him play football but sounds like he is a very good QB and I can attest he is a very good kid and glad he’s here in town. When Iceman graduates in two years Winters will be one of the ones going for the QB position.
I wish all 3 of them the best and I will root on all 3 across the sports they play.
Re: 2018 Jackson Ironmen Football Outlook
Thanks pretty good assessment, on the Vinton County thread sounds like they've already wrote him off as going to Jackson. It was told to me not that long ago about a 8th grader heading to Jackson from VC and that was someone that's not affiliated with either school, lol. Good Luck to the Ironmen this year.Ironman92 wrote: Wed Jun 06, 2018 5:02 pmFun topic....all kids that are a year from varsity eligibility or incoming freshman.
