New Field Turf @ Marietta College
New Field Turf @ Marietta College
Improvements for Drumm Stadium with new field turf. The turf will have a gray colored tint. For an old traditionalist, some things just are not right.
From the Marietta Times:
The area around Don Drumm Stadium and Marietta Field on Greene Street will soon be sporting a new look, just in time for football season at both the collegiate and high school levels.
[Snip]
Instead of going with a traditional green, Don Drumm will have a gray field with contrasting shades every five yards and the Marietta College Pioneer logo at midfield. The end zones will be navy blue with Marietta spelled out in white. Don Drumm will be marked for football and men’s lacrosse, and include temporary marks for women’s lacrosse and soccer.

How’s it ruined? this will help the programs and school in getting more student-athletes to the school. I think they should upgrade the baseball field for Marietta as well.

I agree, baseball program is really good and one of the best in the country. They should have top notch facilities.BobcatQB wrote: Fri Jul 20, 2018 12:13 pmbelieve that the are..definitely needed there too.Ironmen#2588 wrote: Fri Jul 20, 2018 12:00 pm How’s it ruined? this will help the programs and school in getting more student-athletes to the school. agreed, and it is still a nice stadium, especially for D3 but has been neglected over the years. Needs spruced up, facelift..heard they were going to replace the infield too.

Should do a turf infield, with grass outfield. Put a wrap around bleacher that connects to the dugouts. Maybe upgrade the dugouts also, could Even add something to the Home dugout.BobcatQB wrote: Fri Jul 20, 2018 12:25 pm agreed, and it is still a nice stadium, especially for D3 but has been neglected over the years. Field looks great, hopefully they can continue winning some games. Watch out for Tanner Clark this season.

What they need to improve is the Guest Bleachers at Don Drumm.

Got to remember it is a college field first and not many teams if any fill the visitors side at the Pio home games. I would bet if the local high schools want to pitch in and provide some funding they would be more than happy to improve that area of the stadium.edforshey wrote: Sun Jul 22, 2018 6:56 pm What they need to improve is the Guest Bleachers at Don Drumm.

any and all of these improvements are much needed and will make that trip through that part of town even more enjoyable seeing the new facilities.

Should be an improvement. Hope to see someone at the college bid for second-round h.s. playoff games.
The contrasting gray colors are similar to what Harrison Central did to its field a couple years ago. Looks awesome.

Football is meant to played on a grass field, but if not the turf should at least be green. Agreed that other improvements are needed, but the field color is not one of them.
Re: New Field Turf @ Marietta College
Was it “meant” to be played on grass or did it just happen to be played on grass because turf didn’t exist?GalliaGrad78 wrote: Thu Jul 26, 2018 8:25 am Football is meant to played on a grass field, but if not the turf should at least be green. I mean, the game was “meant” to be played without using hands, with no forward pass, and with no protective gear but those things evolved and people got used to it.
Unfortunately for the “That’s the way it has always been” crowd, changes like this will continue. Eventually, it will be abnormal to have a grass field and everyone will team-brand their turf.

There's not a more dangerous phrase than "That's the way it has always been." I LOVE the way the new field looks! It's different!enigmaax wrote: Thu Jul 26, 2018 8:52 amWas it “meant” to be played on grass or did it just happen to be played on grass because turf didn’t exist?GalliaGrad78 wrote: Thu Jul 26, 2018 8:25 am Football is meant to played on a grass field, but if not the turf should at least be green.
