Re: WK1 2018 Federal Hocking @ Alexander
When does the number of schools fielding football teams in SE Ohio start to drop? Already saw where Millersport already dropped although hard to call that SE Ohio. But I do believe some schools will drop the sport.

Alexander reached the playoffs in 2015 and they also reached the Sweet 16 in soccer that year.dazed&confused wrote: ↑Thu Aug 23, 2018 11:06 am Yes but I don't think schools of Alexander's size can field both soccer and football and be committed to both. I've witnessed the passion of Alex folks for football. Put your money and your heart behind the program. Or it's just a club sport for the parents.
Schools like Wheelersburg (who is smaller than Alexander) doesn’t seem to struggle when it comes to balancing soccer and football.
What about Golf or Cross Country? Alexander should probably get rid of those sports too since they happen in the same season. Maybe ditch the Marching Band too, I’m sure if you just took away options and forced everyone to play football, then you’d be great!

Alexander is a fantastic school district with fantastic facilities. They have a very good coach with talent coming and talent on the current roster.

while the levy situation is sad, it has nothing to do with the football numbers. pay-to-play is not an issue for any kid playing football this year. alexander is not a football school.
alexander should win this game at home. we are not deep, so health is critical. hoping both teams stay healthy.
go alex.

The Spartans were a football school when you go back far enough. They were even 9-1 during one season. The Snipes era produced some fine teams and the Boston era teams were no slouches. Arno had some good seasons. Down cycle right now. I also agree soccer cuts into your skill kids at a school that size. Wheelersburg is an anomaly. Many kids that would have been playing at Portsmouth are now at Burg and I would say kids that would be playing some where else are now at Burg. Not the same situation

I will miss my times attending games at Albany. I wish the school and team the best. I'm sure I'll find my way there again sometime in the future. But the folks that showed up with the cowbells and flaxen horns (I miss that) loved rooting for their team. They welcomed and treated my son with great respect and joy while he coached there. Always will be a soft spot in my heart. Go Spartans!

Not sure of the exact number. It's in the 30s. Their last win was October 14, 2014.
