Portsmouth 35 Ironton 28
WHAT SAY YA'LL --- what a great effort by both teams. the senior laden blue devils pulled it out right at the end over the young fighting tigers. very exciting. ironton again made 2 many mistakes against a 1 loss d4 team and fell short at the end. congratulations to the blue devils on their ovc conference championship. things have certainly turned around with coach penrod at the helm, it's great for the league and the southern part of the state. ironton is experiencing growing pains, making 2 many mistakes and are very young. but hey they are 6-3, ranked 4 in d5 region 19. and are in position to return back to the playoffs, i'll take that anyday. and the valuable playing time these young men are getting is going to really pay future dividends. I predicted ironton would win 35-21. if they cleaned up the turnovers and penalties. I had confidence we could beat a very solid blue devil team. nothing to hang their heads about. they are definitely headed in the right direction. and they'll again need to clean things up as we finish up the regular season against longtime rival Portsmouth who is also sitting at 6-3 and fighting for their playoff lives as they are standing at 10 in region 20. so this should be a dandy of a game in Trojan land next week. again congratulations to the 2018 ovc champion gahs blue devils. and good luck moving forward. and congratulations to coach Pendleton and his staff for having the fighting tigers at 4 in their region currently, and a 6-3 record heading into week 10 after a very exciting game against the d4 blue devils. things are certainly looking up.HERE.

Re: WEEK 10 6-3 IRONTON @ 6-3 PORTSMOUTH.
you couldn't get anymore even as far as these 2 right now . talyn parker has rushed for 2,000 yards according to another post I saw for portsmouth. and are currently # 10 in region 20 of d5. and the young fighting tigers are at # 4 in region 19 of d5. so this game is everything it is expected to be as far as long time rivals. both fighting for playoff spots and both have identical records. it is exactly what is expected in this long time rivalry football. the 2nd oldest rivalry in ohio football. both title towns, both had pro teams and legendary roots dating back to the earliest of the 1900's. it doesn't get any better in ohio high school football. and ironton win would certainly lock up a home field playoff game for the fighting tigers as the top 4 play at home in each region. and a win by the Trojans who are out of the top 8 right now at 10 would certainly ensure them a spot in the top 8, and a week 11 game as well. so it's all on the line. the fighting tigers will again have to focus on cleaning up penalties and turnovers to beat Portsmouth. this should be a whale of a game in Trojan town.

This should be a good game. Should be interesting to see if the young tigers can can stop that run game led by junior talyn parker. IMO if they can control their run game then they should have a chance to win. If not then I see the trojans winning and locking up a playoff spot and a first round date more than likely with the defending D5 champs burg

Re: WEEK 10 6-3 #4 IRONTON @ 6-3 #10 PORTSMOUTH.
Ironton is the favorite in this game, considering that they have played a tougher non-conference schedule than the Trojans.......the Fighting Tigers lost competitive games to Wheelersburg and Ashland, both of whom have a combined 2 losses. IHS also has lost only 1 OVC game, that being to Gallia Academy, while the Trojans have lost to Coal Grove and Gallia Academy. Portsmouth's non-conference schedule wasn't nearly as tough as Ironton's.
With that said, Ironton is beatable, but it will take the Trojans' best effort of the year to secure a 7-3 record. Portsmouth will not beat the Fighting Tigers with just a running game. Talyn Parker has had a fabulous season thus far, but I can bet that Coach Pendleton will game plan to not let Parker run wild. PHS will have to hit some passes to spread the Ironton defense out. Their defense will most likely prove to be the toughest that the Trojans have faced this season. Ironton's D played very well vs. Wheelersburg and Ashland, and for the most part has played consistently well.
I was very pleased to see the coaching staff include quite a few passes vs. South Point, and the passing game looked very capable of making some big plays. I really think that will be needed vs. the Fighting Tigers, but of course Talyn Parker has to get his share of touches. Defensively, the Trojans must contain Reid Carrico, who is a very physical runner. Also important will be putting pressure on QB Salyers, as he can make plays with his feet and arm.
Portsmouth can win this game, but they have to be totally focused on all aspects. It's our Trojans senior night, it's one of the oldest rivalries in Ohio, there's a possible playoff berth at stake for PHS, and the Tradition Trophy is currently in our possession. There's plenty of motivation for PHS to come out and play their best football of the season.
Whatever the outcome, Coach Kalb and his staff have done a fine job in his first year at Portsmouth. GO TROJANS!!

dave it is great to see Portsmouth back on track as well as gahs and ironton, it is great for the ovc and southern ohio football. I hear tayln parker has 2000 yards, which is amazing. exactly how many yards does he have. I think this will be an awesome game. and look forward to chattin with my buddies from Portsmouth this week here.

I have looked forward to this game all year and can’t believe it’s here. Portsmouth can beat Ironton but it will take a perfect game. Irontons rb and fullback are really good. Not sure the status of salyers. Was told he was hurt last night. Portsmouth has to mix plays. I’ll give south point a lot of props. They held Parker way under the yards most ovc teams have done. That shows if you load the box he will be stopped. That means we have to pass. We are 10 in the region I think if we win we still need a lot of help. Kids have to dig deep in there hearts. If there tired they need to push thru it. I have watched Ironton in practice a few times and they will not get tired. Pendleton pushes them to the max. Excited for the game. I’m Portsmouth thru and thru have kids on there. Ironton is where my sons family is from. Proud of Portsmouth no matter the outcome.

Re: WEEK 10 6-3 #4 IRONTON @ 6-3 #10 PORTSMOUTH.
Big game! Not heard salyers is hurt. He was playing all game and I listened to the entire game webcast. There was no reference to him being injured. Fosson who has been amazing the last few games, has been playing dinged up a couple games now, is slow to get up, but plays both ways, and has rushed for several TD’s after being slow to arise!
Several other starters in same sitch as well!
No matter what happens.. I’m very happy with the output of the young tigers. And Pendleton’s debut!

Salutes was not hurt. That being said Portsmouth will have to load the box also and make salyers beat them with the pass. The line has to give Danny some time and hopefully they let him hit some slants and get Parker Johnson in the game, he is a matchup nightmare. Trojans 17-14 OT JOEL FG

Ironton big in this game as long as the turnover bug don't hit them again . Portsmouth can't beat a team with a winning record and it's not gonna happen next Friday. Portsmouth to one dimensional.

This will be a good indicator of coach Pendleton, by responding to a hard loss. It’s at Portsmouth. I’ll take irony because they’re going to be able to move the ball on the ground and chew clock. Probably a shoot out

they are already 4th in their region timbo. they would only go up with a win. the top 4 host a home game. while the bottom four are on the road. the Trojans are 6-3, so if ironton should somehow win, they would most assuredly be in the top 4. Portsmouth is sitting at 10. and a win over a 6 win ironton team would almost have to at least get them to 8. but to be frank, I have no idea how to tell point wise. I've never tried figuring out how many a team gets n such. I leave that to the folks that know how. so definitely a lot riding on this one friend.

In the immortal words of Coach Lee Corso, "Not so fast my friend." After Saturday's games were complete and with Bellaire's win, Bellaire leapfrogged from #5 to #3 in the region, dropping Ironton to #5.
Doing the right thing is rarely easy.
