Seems wrong not to be playing a game or two against Jackson.

I agree. I know they had to let some games go to beef up schedule a little for this year but 2 river valley games and 2 Point pleasant games much prefer to see Jackson at least once.

Very strange to have both of those teams on twice.

Would much rather see a Jackson and Waverly type games instead of PP or RV a 2nd time.

Why would you play this type of nonconference schedule? You have a D-1 recruit Coach Harrison. Get him some exposure and go play some quality people. This is why I would be telling the Loveday famil,y if I'm Coach Chris Holtman, to get their son to a prep school to face real competition that will prepare him for the next level.

I think that he is already facing this in AAU ball. I hope that if he transfers, the new school has a band, as I have heard that band is also very important to this young man.

For a district that has been letting teachers go, I'd say transportation cost would be a huge factor in scheduling games. The cost of travel is probably astronomical. I would go out on a limb and say, they are pushing their transportation budget with the current schedule the way it is.

The extra 20 miles to Jackson sure would cripple the school district. Just cancel the sport if you can’t afford to go to games.

I was actually responding to the suggestion of going to Waverly, or to the guy saying to beef up and go play some tougher teams. I would think if GA can dominate their schedule, and actually win a district and regional, then Loveday will get every bit of competition he needs.

Ok let’s not talk basketball travel expenses and school budgets the people that bring that up no nothing about Gallipolis city schools and athletics. There is no money taken out of the Gallipolis city schools general fund for athletics. Gallia academy athletics is 100% self supported by gate and boosters that is why your kid has to fun raise all year long. That is why we have pay for play. The athletics do not cost school system a dime.

Gallia academy was bad at basketball for quite some time and as the seoal fell apart it picked up a lot of sisters of poor for a schedule. They have started upgrading the schedule a little every year since Harrison took over. A few years ago Point had some athletes in basketball and I was fine with the 2 games. But think it is time for Point and river valley to go back to 1 game a piece and the 2 replacement games for them needsto be meigs and Jackson. Playing each of them once and then your other 4 non conference games would of been Athens, Logan, warren and Afrocentric. I think that would of been a quality non conference schedule. Have no problem with you playing point Pleasant and river valley each once.

But this schedule is much better then what blue devils were playing like 4 years ago.

Do you know how little recruiting is done during the high school basketball season. Very little to none ask every college coach they will tell you. When you do get a chance to watch a kid play during the college season. You usually don’t go watch a kid that hasn’t already committed to you. Maybe you are going to have a opportunity to see maybe 2 or 3 games. Most of the time you go out and watch a kid that is already committed and your making sure your furthering that connection.

Maybe that will change with all the hot water college basketball is in but until it does the recruiting will be AAU and camps

I heard coach K. Say that because you can tell so little from high school games on most kids they won’t watch film from almost any high school regular season because you can’t tell much because of the difference in talent

When Swingle from Paint Valley was a Freshman and Sophomore, there were routinely coaches from Ohio State and West Virginia at his games, including when Bob Huggins flew into the Ross County Airport to go to a game.

I think there is a big difference in a college coach making a hour trip south or maybe even 45 minute plain ride on a off day then out and out recruiting yes you might go out and visit a kid you already have a in with.

On the radio the other day. They were asking coach Huggins how much recruiting he would get done during season. And he said he might make it out to see a couple kids usually kids that you have already offered might even have a verbal trying to seal the deal.

I guess I sort of miss spoke in a way. There is probably plenty of recruiting during this time but not a lot of talent evaluating going on. You evaluated the kids during summer ball this time of year your just trying to close the deal with kids.

I guess when I think of recruiting I think of the talent evaluation part not the trying to convince the kid part
