I agree that Burg is good this year, but Waverly is a team that athletically can match up with. They will give Burg a game and could easily beat them.Ukfanatic wrote: Wed Dec 12, 2018 8:36 am Well lets just give the burg the soc title and not make them play any games. Lets move on to tournaments again so Waverly can make their run to a district finals just like last year. Maybe burg will beat them by 20. But Waverly beat them at home last year and was up on them at wheelersburg when the Marquez kid went out with an injury. They have some kids who guarded Holden last year and did all right. By the way I believe Blevins could play division 1 and their might be a couple others who are getting looks.

Agreed. Ater has had way too much talent the last 3 years and should have won the last 3 SOC's, he lost it for the them. Burg should go undefeated in regular season and should win the SOC this year, but he will probably blow it again.tomcat wrote: Tue Dec 11, 2018 2:45 pm i will be shocked if Burg doesn't win this game. As a life long burg fan i unfortunately have to agree with u. I'm all for kids having fun and showing emotion but wow these last couple years we've turned into something else. It was never like this with barrick not even close! From what i hear about Ater though it sounds like the kids are just a chip off the old block from their coach. Im glad we are winning dont get me wrong, but we're not an inner city team its time to cool it a bit with our cockiness.Crab's Brother wrote: Wed Dec 12, 2018 8:37 am Wheelersburg is good. Very Good.
But I hope to one day love something as much as a few of those Burg players love themselves. That is not the Wheelersburg that I grew up playing against. Constant jaw running and throwing up "signs" after making shots.
I hate to be the old man yelling at clouds, but seriously, just shut up and play.

we definitely should have won 2 of the 3 but i dont know about all 3. Ater has it served on a silver platter this year if he cant win a league title then he honestly needs to go. Good start for us last night against one of the main competitors in the league racesticks wrote: Wed Dec 12, 2018 8:55 amAgreed. Yeah the Burgs showboating is what turns everyone against them...Burg calls it swagger..I call it punking it up.....It's todays society...Coaches and parents think it's cute...They enable this behavior....They pick this up watching the college punks do it on TV and the announcers just love it...Coaches back in the day would pull them off the Court , smack em around, look em in eye say punk it up again you're off the team......I've watched the Holden kid since he came up...He can't dunk one or make a shot without starring someone down...It's actually comical sometimes watching these kids fall in love with themselves...…..

Even when they are up 20+, still talking smack, throwing up signs after making shots, staring down the opponents after shots, etc. I would suggest acting like they've been there before and keeping the college jerseys in the locker room during warm-ups, playing with respect and Burg pride as they will be rolling over teams. Stop drinking the Aterade and go and win with Pride! Probably best Burg team I have ever seen. Hope they improve their conduct.
Re: Burg 0-0 @ 3-0 oakhill
Burg easily defeated a 3-0 team last night. Should be a great year for basketball. I feel that this team has the potential to go very far this year, despite their head coach. I can definitely see a SOC championship this year. GO BURG!

It's only magnified 1000 percent because it's burg.
They are 16-18 year old kids. Who cares if they get emotional? Oak hill played a dirty game last night. I mean the Darby kid flat knocked Truitt kid straight in the nose, probably broke it and you don't think that kids aren't going to respond to that? Norm Persin about ate Ater's head off in the 3rd QTR. SMH.Yet at the end, both teams shook hands and it was over.
You have always been one of the more level headed posters on here but I guess you and I won't agree on this one.
I have seen teams everywhere play with tons of emotion. Last night wasn't that. It was kids constantly talking and showing up their opponents. That was not the Burg that I grew up playing against. There was no celebration with teammates. It was all "look at me". If you don't see it, you don't. But this has nothing to do with it being "magnified 1000 percent because it was Burg".

Case in point: 1 particular player wearing a Wright St. Shirt during Warmups. Is he playing for Wright State now? Or does he still play for Wheelersburg? (Look, I know, the rest know that he is a good player that is going to Wright State to play College Basketball But come on MAN!) I can't believe a coach, AD , Principal, or Super doesn't step in and tell this kid to wear "our" team colors. Society today is all about "ME" "ME" "ME!"

They are 16-18 year old teenagers with the 18's being adults not kids..That's the problem with todays Parents and Coaches..They call them kids...The kids you're talking about Woby are the one's playing down in the Biddy leagues and middle School..Actually that's where the problem starts. You can just about predict the kids who will be head cases when they get in HS..It's same kids who got by punking it up at the biddy levels without a Coach or Parent stopping it...When they get in HS their Cockiness and attitude is an arrogance on steroids. Can't be stopped.....

I understand the issue at hand, but this is not something new going on. Players across the country that play both basketball and football wear their college choices during warmups and even during games such as cleats, gloves, undershirts etc. The game has changed in all sports and the bottom line is if kids aren't having fun, they won't play. It's difficult to manage youngsters these day's with harshness and being strict. It's just the way things are whether we like it or not.baseball16 wrote: Wed Dec 12, 2018 12:13 pm Case in point: 1 particular player wearing a Wright St. Shirt during Warmups. By no means am I saying that coaches should shy away from discipline or raising their voices or anything like that, all that I am saying is there is a thinner line now than there has been in the past and coaches must learn how to best manage the kids they have to get the best out of them. Not all players respond the same to criticism and yelling.spider2Ybanana wrote: Wed Dec 12, 2018 12:29 pmI understand the issue at hand, but this is not something new going on. So you are saying if this kid is not allowed to wear his Wright State Shirt during warmups he will not play? HOGWASH!! You play for your school. Like I said, we live in a society that is all about ME! Funny thing is everyone always says this and says that about the entitlement these kids feel but nothing ever gets done about it, we just accept it and say "welp, that's how it is!" Again, HOGWASH An administrator of SOME kind should step in and not let this happen. JMO
Re: Burg 0-0 @ 3-0 oakhill
It was a couple minutes before the game started. He took it off right before National Anthem. Ater needs to take control of the discipline situation. If not, there are some teams who will not back down and take it like Oak Hill did, and games could get ugly with injuries.transplant wrote: Wed Dec 12, 2018 12:25 pm was this during team warm ups right before the game? or during "shoot around" before the jv game?

No, that's simply an example of how we have become less strict. The bottom line is, these are kids, who do not know anything different than the way they have been raised. Who raises them? The parents. It is idiotic to blame these kids for what they are doing when they are molded by the adults in their life. Parents, teachers, administrators, whoever it is are the ones to blame. Not 15-18 year old kids.baseball16 wrote: Wed Dec 12, 2018 12:43 pm So you are saying if this kid is not allowed to wear his Wright State Shirt during warmups he will not play? HOGWASH!! Re: Burg 0-0 @ 3-0 oakhill
All I know is that the Oak Hill players weren't playing a straight up game. Watched many unnoticed things go down by the oak hill players that aren't talked about on here. There were two intentional fouls on oak hill. One during the jv and one during varsity. Holden plays with an attitude, I will give you that, but after the game, he turns it off. The kid is a good student off the court. Maybe he was proud of the wright state shirt he wore since he just recently signed, and maybe he asked the coach and players if he could wear it.Crab's Brother wrote: Wed Dec 12, 2018 11:44 amWoby, wobycat wrote: Wed Dec 12, 2018 8:48 amYeah, I have never seen other SOC team's kids show any emotion. Sad to read some of these comments. Someone needs to jerk a knot in their butts and tell them just to play there game.
The flip side of that is Tanner is going to have all kinds of crap said to him this year to try and stir him up. Hopefully he can ignore it and play for it.
Last year I noticed a lot of players questioning calls by the refs in just about every foul call. That shouldn’t be going on.
I went to school with Brad Walke, Todd Staker, Craig Brown and countless others. You never heard a word out of those guys or anybody on the team back then. They respected the game. They respected the opponent and lastly they respected the officials. It is a different game today but it doesn’t have to be that way.
Your play on the court is all the talking you need.
