Miller 14
Weaver 10
Clemmons 10
Leist 4
Listening to it on the radio I would have to agree. Waverly rushed shots 4 series down the court in a matter of less than a minute including when they had the ball after technicals on the coaches. Sounded like Waverly coach should have worked clock when they were up by 5. I just don't think the Tigers valued the ball. Eastern coach didn't panic and controlled the tempo the last 3 minutes in my opinion.
Were they rushed shots? Were they from kids who normally make them in the area they took them? And I'd venture to say Robertson has coached long enough if they were errant shots he wasn't instructing them to do it. A battle of tempos with those two squads. Tonight the slow down game won but if you play it ten times who knows? Congrats to the Eagles on a tough win.Hoopie74 wrote: Fri Dec 28, 2018 11:00 pmListening to it on the radio I would have to agree. ... love the napkin stats smurray ... when I go to a game I SEE the game 2 ways - once as the game is going on/I get those overall impressions/the feel of the game THEN when I go back over the napkin stats THAT tells the story by quarter where/when/how the games are won or lost imo ... great rundown smurray - thank you !smurray wrote: Sat Dec 29, 2018 10:15 am "Being outcoached" is hilarious. Coaches don't make or miss shots, turn the ball over, etc.
Waverly was down 13-7 after one but turned it around to tie it at 22 at the break.
Waverly was able to do that and build a 35-30 lead at the end of three with the style of play that enabled them to get that lead (Waverly actually outscored the Eagles 28-17 in the 2nd & 3 quarters).
The Tigers extended the lead by 1 (36-30) with 7:13 to play by making 1 of 2 FT's (1 FT miss).
Leist promptly scored with 7:02 to play to cut it to 36-32.
Miller and Weaver came back in with 4 fouls each with 6:10 to play.
Clemmons (the X-Factor) cut it to 36-34 with 5:34 to play.
Miller 2 for 2 FT's tied it at 36 with 5:11 to play.
Smallwood bucket with 4:45 to give the Tigers the 38-36 lead.
Clemmons with the put back with 4:23 to tie it at 38.
Tied at 40 with 3:55 to play after CLEMMONS and Wolfe back to back buckets.
(CLEMMONS with those 6 HUGE points from the 5:34 mark to the 3:55 mark)
Tied at 40 with 3:55 to play, Tigers with 3 consecutive turnovers (two back to back travels at the same spot on the floor at the same juncture of the half court set). That my friend who is suggesting Waverly was outcoached is why Waverly tries to avoid the halfcourt set - get it??
After a 2 1/2 minute drought by both teams the play of the game happened at 1:22 when Miller scored and was fouled. Miller converted the FT and Eastern lead 43-40 with 1:22 to play. (MILLER MADE THE FT)
With .38 to play Waverly player fouled shooting a three. Made 1 of 3 cutting the Eastern lead to 2 at 43-41.
Eastern turned the ball over with .33 to play - Waverly still just down 2 with .33 to play and the ball.
with .22 to play Waverly player with a nice drive to the basket for an apparent bucket but Miller comes away with the block.
With .15 to play Miller hits 2 for 2 FT's to extend the lead to 45-41.
Waverly failed to score and with .08 to play Miller hits 2 for 2 FT's for the 47-41 final.
When Waverly made the 3rd quarter run to go up 5 after three, they were 2 of 5 FT"s - missed three.
In the 4th quarter when the game still in question, Waverly was again 2 for 5 FT's - missed three.
In the 4th quarter with the game to be decided, Miller went 7 for 7 from the line.
EASTERN MADE THE PLAYS DOWN THE STRETCH AND WAVERLY DIDNT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
