Cornwell is a crafty southpaw that threw well yesterday against Zane Trace.

Cornwell is a crafty southpaw that threw well yesterday against Zane Trace.

He threw against Minford earlier in the year, he’s a solid pitcher.

Cornwell has been pitching better the 2nd half of the season - and that outing vs Minford. In his last two games he has gone 15 innings on the hill, allowed just two earned runs in victories over two pretty good teams in Marietta and Zane Trace.

Nate Trainer on the other hand has been pretty darn impressive over the past few weeks. Since the tournament started he is 6-for-7 at the plate, 2 doubles, a triple with 4 RBI, 3 runs scored and tossed a no hitter in the semifinals.

The Athens Bulldogs return to the diamond and on 970WATH Monday when they take on the Sheridan Generals in a Division 2 district semi-final at Bob Wren Stadium in Athens. Jack Cornwell pitched 7 solid innings and Nate Trainer went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Bulldogs past Zane Trace 5-2 in the sectional championship game last week. The top seeded Generals meanwhile knocked off McClain 11-1 for their 22nd win of the season. Monday’s district semi-final match-up between Athens and Sheridan and can be heard live on 970WATH & 97.1FM or 970wath.com with pregame at 4:45 and first pitch at 5:00.
