Could Michigan lose out?
Could Michigan lose out?
I know optimism was extremely high early on. However, Michigan is 1-3 in their last 4 games, with the only win being against Delaware State. The Wolverines play at illinois and its a game they should win. What if they get upset this week in Champaign? They still have Purdue, Wisky and OSU left.
Do the majority of Michigan fans still believe they will go 8-4?

Re: Could Michigan lose out?
I am hearing UM center Molk is out for the year w/ torn ACL. He just came back from a broken foot to play PSU and got hurt. I wish him a full recovery by next season.
Re: Could Michigan lose out?
Appreciate that. He is a great kid and was not suppoed to be back until the Ohio State game, but worked his tail off to get back early. He will be greatly missed.
Re: Could Michigan lose out?
Michigan should beat Illinois and Purdue.
Wisconson is even money at this point.
I'll give an early edge to Michigan against Ohio State for 2 reasons...
Ohio State has done little to impress me and the game is at Michigan. Of course, RR has been known to lay eggs against his teams top rivals, i.e. Pitt on more than 1 occasion.

I have a feeling that if they don't win this week then they will fall apart and not win another game this year.

Re: Could Michigan lose out?
@illinois. I don't see them loosing this game but if they do it doesn't look good for the rest of the season. Purdue is better then their record shows and you never know about the wisky game. Then O$U

I think Michigan is capable of winning all games left on their schedule. However, just because this game is at Michigan, really doesnt matter much. Penn State just put up 35 on the Wolverines up there and in the RR era, they have lost many many games there.
Illinois is at Illinois and if there is any pride left there, the Illini should be playing hard. Even though the Michigan program is on the rocks from the glory days of past, they are still Michigan to alot of Illini players. I think Illinois is a must win for Michigan.
8-4 or even 7-5 looks a whole lot better than 5-7 or 6-6. I know many Michigan fans have fallen in love with the puppet master, RR, but if he loses 6 games after beatting Notre Dame, the scales have to come off the eyes a bit.
Re: Could Michigan lose out?
The problem is Michigan is still not Michigan yet. Name a single Michigan team that had this little upper classmen talent in the past say 30 years. I dare you to even try.
Michigan has talent, but the majority of it is on the sidelines. People (85) will say well PSU is rebuilding, that may be true, but the way UM is rebuilding v PSU is completely different. PSU rebuilds with juniors and seniors, while Michigan is rebuilding with true freshmen. Until Michigan can start rebuilding with juniors and seniors again, then they are not back.
Michigan is what most thought they would be, inconsistant. A ture mark of a young team.

Ohio State has very little upperclassmen starting....
But you're right. Next year will be the year they turn the corner imo.
Re: Could Michigan lose out?
Here is a good explination from one of the mods on scout:
Take a look at the classes of 2005 -- 06. Some kids have had great careers, some are great leaders, some had horrible luck with injuries, and many are long gone. I doubt that many of us expected in 2005-06 that "today" UM would be starting the youngest team in the Big Ten after these two signing days...
Scout ranked UM #2 in 2005 -- read 'em and weep. Weep a lot. http://recruiting.scout.com/a....683&yr=2005
How about our 2006 Class Ranked #9 -- 2/5 ***** players are long gone, and 1/5 never came close to fulfilling his promise. The **** talent was either injury-prone (like Minor/Brown) or failed to develop (and often left). http://recruiting.scout.com/a....683&yr=2006
And in 2007 you can see the long shadow cast by Mallett. We had taken few QBs in 2005-06, setting Mallett up for a three year run as Starting QB....that fizzled. Small class ranked #10 due to 5 top 100 kids. Our top recruit plays for Arkansas and a high # of **** recruits are hurt or long gone. http://recruiting.scout.com/a....683&yr=2007 But, more (younger) players are contributing. The small numbers compound the problems caused by 2005.
And I suggest that this shows much of why Coach Rod began the year with an unusually low number of scholarship players and why we see so many walk-ons in the two deep. Sure, Boren waltzed back to Columbus and Mallett left looking for a "gunslinger's" offense. Sure, recruiting is inexact and washouts are to be expected. Nevertheless, the "guts" of our upperclass recruits didn't pan out the way we'd hoped they would, and we'll feel it for a while.
2005 -- James McKinney, Eugene Germany, Marques Slocum, Brandon Logan, Chris McLaurin and Johnny Sears.
2006 -- Jason Kates, Quinton Woods, Cobrini Mixon and Quinton Patilla.
These are defensive players only. This is why we have no returning 4 and 5th year players on defense.
Don't foget the 7 commits from 2008 that are no longer here

Re: Could Michigan lose out?
I expect 2-2 in their last 4 games.
I think the win against Illinois, and should beat Purdue.
They lose against OSU, and the wisconsin game should be good, and I give UM the benefit of the doubt.
That said, 3-1 isn't out of the question.
Neither is 1-3, with Illinois being the upset game.
I thought they were a 6-6 team this year, with a possiblity of 8-4 at best.
I don't think they lose all 4 remaining games at all, and think it would be a huge set back for
the program, at least in terms of public opinion.

Re: Could Michigan lose out?
Well yes anyone could lose out but I feel Michigan will win 2 more in the regular season maybe 3 @ Wisconsin might but that 3rd win
