I'd love to hear more to this story honestly.
Umps haven't checked equipment in highschool for like 4 years now. It falls on the Coaches and i think they are actually subject to ejection for this.
But how did the bat not have a stamp? Every bat I've seen at stores and online ALWAYS have a Stamp. So I'd love to hear the details.

The 2017-2018 Easton Ghost has 2 different models one that was approved for ASA/USA/ISF/HighSchool (Blue graphics) and one that is USSSA/NSA/ISA (gold graphics) i'm not sure is this is the bat in question.

I'm guessing it was probably the Easton Ghost. Easton makes 2 modelsBackroadHero wrote: ↑Wed May 22, 2019 3:54 pm I'd love to hear more to this story honestly.

1. (ASA) legal for high school
2. (USSSA) illegal for high school, does not have ASA stamp

Ah if that's the case that sucks for her. How many parents, players or coaches really would know the difference in the two??

Congrats to Peebles. Wow, So if what people are saying that it’s on the Coach’s job to check these bats, then there’s lots of assumptions as to why would they let this happen. 1. To give a advantage to batter and team.2. Don’t know the rules. 3. Turns head and acts like they’re oblivious to this rule.4. Win at any cost attitude and plays dumb. 5.or does this fall on umpires for not enforcing rules 6 and at some point someone had to see or know this bat was being used and said nothing. Lots of what ifs here. But great game and good luck in Regional finals to the Indians. I would like to know the Ohio athletic rules on this and who is responsible for enforcing these rules

Way too much softball knowledge at Notre Dame to not know!! You can’t use that bat in an Asa tournament! They will throw it out faster than she can pull it out of the bag!! It’s very unfortunate. And just because she used it all year doesn’t make it right!

Thanks ManitouDan2 for your vote of confidence. You are absolutely right. We play by the rules and have never even used a rolled bar. A team “ghost” was purchased by one of the fathers and we all assumed it was legal since it is the 2019 model. They just got it in time for tournaments so it was NOT used all season. I (Cassie’s father) assumed it was the same ghost bat others on our team had used all season but I had not actually seen it up against them to see the difference. When I heard somebody say “gold lettering” at the game I looked it up and sure enough it is illegal for high school. I dont blame Peebles for pointing it out. If the shoes were in the other feet we would have done the same. I have coached travel ball for about 8 years now. You like to think you are on top of these things but sometimes the stupidest things slip by us. Both teams played great today. Unfortunately for us Peebles came out on top. I wish Peebles the best of luck and hope they go all the way!

^^ now that right there -- thats the definition of " you win with class you lose with class" very very well said JMS . In todays world to see something like that is really refreshing .
Re: 5/22 2:00PM (22-2) Notre Dame v (22-2) Peebles
I can see now how easily it could have happened. Not sure why they would even make a separate Ghost that can't be used in ASA or high school..

Just kidding.
It was a great game to watch!
Rules like this and others normally in southern Ohio are simply overlooked not by intentional purposes, but simply because honor system. Illegal pitches. Leaving early, bats, etc. are rarely called even though they happen all the time. But once it gets to the regional/State level. Everything is called by the book. Teams that plan to go this far should be playing to prepare for this level. If ND coaches knew shame on them for not correcting the situation. Any bat purchased should have some homework done before paying $400.00 or more.

Speaking with someone about this and they said it would be hard to confuse the two bats considering the price difference in the legal one vs the illegal one.

You do realize the one that is illegal you can get cheaper. It’s not illegal because it’s hotter. It’s allowed in Little League.

I think the Coach is responsible for making sure any new equipment, gloves, bats anything should be inspected and the Coach made aware of any new equipment. Players and Assistants need to make sure Head Coach is aware of any changes. Or players, parents kind of run things on this aspect. Plus know the rules and make sure players and parents and whoever know the difference.
