Re: Waverly vs Athens 2019
It's going to all about Waverly's O-line keeping our QB upright and opening holes or lanes for Shoe (he doesn't need huge holes) to run through. Then can Waverly's D-line at least get in the Athens backfield and if not sack, get in the QB's face, lay a couple licks on him, disrupt his timing and get him a little off his game.
I think smurray said it has always been all about Waverly's line and it has been for as long as I can recall. It's way too early for any prediction on what the lines will look like I will save that information until we see some practices and scrimmages. I expect the 7 on 7's will confirm what most people already suspect Waverly has a QB and skill people around him.

Re: Waverly vs Athens 2019
The only common opponents for Waverly and Athens last season were Logan and Fairland. Waverly defeated Logan at home 34-20. Athens defeated Logan at Logan 21-14. Waverly beat Fairland at home 41-27. Athens lost to Fairland at Fairland 35-31.
By all indications if Waverly and Athens had played last season it would have been a very evenly matched game. I expect the same this year. This game should be a dandy.

You are correct. I missed that game....Thanks! Waverly played NY at home and won 31-14. Athens played NY at NY and won 49-14.OSU22 wrote: Mon Jun 03, 2019 10:49 amThey both also played NYtoast wrote: Mon Jun 03, 2019 10:21 am The only common opponents for Waverly and Athens last season were Logan and Fairland. During the regular season Waverly averaged 35.4 points a game while giving up 18.6. Athens averaged 41.4 while allowing 16.8. Not a huge difference. Not sure who had the tougher schedule. I'm guessing somewhat similar in difficulty.

Re: Waverly vs Athens 2019
Since Ryan Adams took over, Athens has had good offensive and defensive lines. Last year we had a dominant line but not skill. This year we will have good skill but a young line. Seems like in football it’s hard to line up the good lines and skill players.

I’m doubtful they do it, Portsmouth and Valley will be playing on Thursday if it’s the same as last season
A Kicker of various balls. Trust The Process
Re: Waverly vs Athens 2019
You're a Bulldog fan, but some of your posts make no sense. No skill last year? They averaged 36 pts/game. Maxfield, Trainer, Gail, Markins, Moore were on the outside, and Adams (over 20 TD) at RB. That sure seems like plenty of skill to me. You're correct about the lines for both years, but not even close on the skill part.Raider6309 wrote: Wed Jun 05, 2019 12:17 pm Since Ryan Adams took over, Athens has had good offensive and defensive lines. Athens had good skill compared to South east Ohio teams. I was comparing to D3 playoff teams. Great line tho

Be an alright statement if it was 2018. Lolartisgilmore wrote: Sat Jun 08, 2019 7:09 pm I’m going to say this one more time.Fairland beat Athens.End of story.
Let me try this irrelevant game. Waverly only beat NY 31-14. End of story.

Do you know how bad it would be if Athens played Wheelersburg or Ironton? Wouldn’t be a game.

I hate to be “that” guy but isn’t Athens and NY a big rivalry game? so they are going to want to make sure they beat them and beat them by as much as they can?

That can be viewed in different ways. Yeah it's a rivalry & I'm sure NY showed up a lot more hyped & prepared to play Athens than Waverly.Kicker. wrote: Sat Jun 08, 2019 9:56 pm93Bulldog wrote: Sat Jun 08, 2019 7:11 pmBe an alright statement if it was 2018. What does that have to do with anything?artisgilmore wrote: Sat Jun 08, 2019 9:14 pm Do you know how bad it would be if Athens played Wheelersburg or Ironton? Wouldn’t be a game.
The last series Athens had with Waverly the Bulldogs clobbered the Tigers both times.
67-14 in 2012
42-21 in 2011
Versus another TVC-Ohio team (Nelsonville-York) Waverly was defeated 38-13 in 2017 before winning 31-14 last year.
In its last four games versus the Ohio Division Waverly is a combined (1-3) and have been outscored 161-79.
No speculation in that post, just stating facts.
Re: Waverly vs Athens 2019
A little off the subject but I have some questions for the Athens faithful. A few years ago I watched the Athens basketball team play a district game at the Convo. Your teams record was outstanding and Joe Burrow was on the team. Very few Athens fan showed up for the game. Why such little support? Was it just a matter of not supporting "basketball"? I've always been curious.
Did Athens have strong fan support when they went on their epic playoff run in football? (all the way to the championship game)
What can we expect in terms of fan support for the Bulldogs when they come to Waverly on August 30th?

Ironton told Athens it would rather play 9 games than play 10 and lose to Athens.artisgilmore wrote: Sat Jun 08, 2019 9:14 pm Do you know how bad it would be if Athens played Wheelersburg or Ironton? Wouldn’t be a game.

It can be hit or miss with Athens. Sometimes they travel really well and other times not so much.toast wrote: Sun Jun 09, 2019 10:51 am A little off the subject but I have some questions for the Athens faithful. I would imagine this game would draw a pretty decent crowd from the Athens fans.
Championship's are won in the off-season
