Re: Logan football 2019
Varsity roster is in pretty good shape. A couple lettermen from last year aren't with the team this year, but also got a couple of lettermen from two years ago back so it's really a wash.
27 freshman is a great number considering they've struggle to even field a 9th grade team for a couple of years. And yes, such a small number in the 8th grade isn't great.
But Coach Perry had like 25 kids on Varsity his first year and that turned out okay.
Hard to tell who is who from the N-Y scrimmage - everybody just wearing practice numbers.
Logan rotated a decent amount on offense. Both QBs played. Clearly Spatar is going to be the starter, but not afraid to use Frasure from what I could tell.
I think the team will have decent depth. IMO - the back half of the defense was as organized as I've seen for a while. Guys were lined up pre-snap, they understood their job, and were able to execute. N-Y scored on some QB draws/one busted QB run - but overall very good on defense.
The offense had some ball-handling issues - snaps/fakes/etc. That's the kind of "acceptable" mistakes for this early. The kind of thing you'd like to see improved on by Marietta and the jamboree game.

Re: Logan football 2019
Still think cautious optimism is the right approach.
This team isn't likely going to make a turn around in to a 7-8-9 win football team. At the same time, I think its fair to be optimistic about improving on 1-9.
Tri-Valley, Jackson, Sheridan, and Zanesville are going to be BIG lifts.
There isn't an "easy" win on the schedule. Teays has been a nemesis since coming on the schedule, Chilli and Athens are always battles, Meigs should be improved and have elite talent at quarterback, Maysville and Hamilton Twp. are two programs that have been on solid footing for the last 5-6 years.

I know it is a new coach, but I think a lot will be disappointed if Logan goes under .500 and are not in the other games.

Re: Logan football 2019
Looking at the schedule, 4-6 might be doable if they stay healthy. Unrealistic to expect much better. Of course, it depends on how healthy the opposition is. Couple of injuries often drops the level of competition.

Still way too early to tell if Logan is going in the right direction. I remember Burke went 6-4, beat Jackson and won the league championship his first year and that was after losing the starting QB after the first game. He was coach of the year in SE district and everybody thought he was the savior then. Gonna have to give it a few years to see if it can stand the test of time. As bad as they been the last 3 years 5-5 would be pretty good.

One of the most immediate and realistic measures of a new coach is how far improved he has his team conditioned. IMO, the last couple times that I caught Logan they looked like they couldn’t make it all four quarters against the likes of DeSales or Watterson.

Don't think anyone will expect them to be perfect, but as I was saying, I could clearly see a change in them at the scrimmage. Time will tell how much change.

A lot of people are probably going to be disappointed.noreply66 wrote: Thu Aug 15, 2019 12:02 pm I know it is a new coach, but I think a lot will be disappointed if Logan goes under .500 and are not in the other games.
I'm not trying to be a debbie downer - but you have to have realistic expectations. What about the last three years would lead anyone to believe this team has the talent to beat 5 teams on that schedule?
Winning and losing are habits and mindsets. Habits and mindsets are hard to change in one short-ish offseason.
I mean in a perfect world where Logan won 5 games in 2017 and 4 games in 2018? Then maybe we're talking about 4-6 wins this season.
I'll say it again - I believe that the staff will get the most out of their roster. And I think that's an improvement from the last two seasons.

Burke's first three seasons he did a great job. I could quibble with a couple decisions in 2015 (8-2 season) - but in the end he was probably right where I was wrong (he could have used McBride more at LB, but considering he got hurt in game 7 shows he may have been right about reducing his number of snaps).cbolt wrote: Thu Aug 15, 2019 2:24 pm Still way too early to tell if Logan is going in the right direction. I don't know why things went south after that season, part was certainly talent, but the 2017 season is still one of the most disappointing that I can remember. I still think that team should have won 4-6 games - they only won three. And certainly a lone win last year did inspire any confidence that the program was going to bounce back.

It’s almost impossible to coach without a league. Hopefully Logan can get in the MVL or LCL
Re: Logan football 2019
Logan over Fairfield Union 2/0 in the varsity. Logan 20 plays for 210 yards. Fairfield Union 20 plays for 39 yards. Yard are total gained not net. Logan D had 5 sacks counting play stopped with QB in trouble. Net yards would have been less than 10 for FU. Logan didn't lose yardage on any play. Logan TDs were from the three and a 35 yard run.

Watched Logan this am vs. FU. Chiefs are BIG up front! Biggest they have been in a while. Defense flys to the football and they will surprise some teams this year if they can stay healthy. Liked the new attitude.

Couldn't make it but good to hear, Noreply and LG. Agree LG. Big boys and can move quickly. I could see a difference in them in the NY scrimmage. Much better attitude was very noticeable.Logangrad wrote: Sat Aug 17, 2019 12:13 pm Watched Logan this am vs. FU. Chiefs are BIG up front! Biggest they have been in a while.
