Why should he call different plays?

They won the game, on the road, by two scores.

He did his job!

Coach Tressel called a conservative game, and spear headed the win with his defense and special teams coverage.
Coach Rodriguez called a lot more wide open game, and a game that a lot of Buckeye fans would like to see get called.

Coach Tressel's offense had more first downs (18 to 16), more total yards (320 to 309), more rushing yards (253 to 80),
more time of possesion, less turnovers (1 to 5), more points (14 to 10), and his 6th straight victory over Michigan.

So, what does Tressel need to change?

Ohio States old uniforms almost look like Stanford's uniforms.

I agree with you BUT If they were playing a good team they would have lost!!!!! They were really really bad on 3rd down and Michigan did all they could to help OSU out. We can't give a bunch of credit to OSU for this win. There D played great but there O stunk it up for most of the game!! We should have rolled big on Michigan and we didn't. If Tress doesn't open up the play book we will get blown out in the Rose Bowl.

from mikepike to Jim Tressel.....HIRE A FREAKING OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR AND LET HIM CALL THE PLAYS!
(I feel better now.)

I thought he got a little conservative but also thought he made Mich look stupid with the screen pass call in the third when Mich sent the house.

I really enjoyed it. It was very conservative, wanted them to toss it long, but twice they did and Pryor overthrew them badly. I think I heard after that OSU did not complete a pass for 15 or more yds all day. I kept looking for Sanzenbacher or Posey. I don't know how Tressel can even recruit a WR. Mich.'s offense used the sidelines well in the first half vs. OSU's soft zone defense. I thought they had a speed advantage at the skill positions there. OSU had some great offensive play calls at the right times. The first TD was a misdirection handoff after Pryor kept it the play before. They drove the field, Mich got aggressive to stop them and those 2 plays went for 40 yds and a TD. The screen pass on 3rd and goal was smart because Mich had just sacked Pryor. It was close to being ill. lineman downfield because the pass may have been beyond the line of scrimmage. OSU's defense was solid, fundamental all day. The int's were great plays... Mich could have been within 21-17 with plenty of time if Forcier had not made the bad decision to throw back left after rolling right, when #10 picked it at the goal line. TV said RRod told him after that to throw the ball where the play calls for. The next time he threw, Gibson picked it because it was flat. 4 picks in the 2nd half ? WOW. Bucks defense won the game no doubt. One more thing, the blimp shots showed alot of red all over the stadium, it was hard to even tell where the visitor's section was. I also loved the signs fans had, Win for Stephanie, WE LOVE YOU...2191 days...and cameras catching Mich fans expressions after int's., lol
Go Bucks

Tressel was conservative for sure, but did anyone notice that OSU scored after every UM score? JT did what he needed to do to win. He wasn't looking for style points. If UM had scored more, JT would have opened it up.

How many people want to fire Bollman now? The O-line has been grinding meat. That is now 3 straight games in November where OSU ran the ball for 200+ yards with decent RBs and defenses who knew what was coming.

Tressel Ball

It ain't pretty.

It doesn't score a lot of points.

It's frustrating as Hell to some tOSU fans, but........

It gets the job done.

5 straight Big Ten titles, 6 overall

6 straight wins over Michigan, 8-1 overall

93-21 record at tOSU, 82.4% winning percentage

3 National Championship games

1 National Championship

I think maybe we should keep him around for a while. :122249

Tressel has designed his offense to not lose the game, not to win the game. This is what is so frustrating. Losing to USC and Purdue shows what happens when you coach every game waiting for the other team to screw up. I'm glad I had to work today so I couldn't watch it. Listening on the radio was bad enough.

Come on guys, I only said it was maddening (which I know it is to alot of you, whether you admit it or not), I did not call for his head. A win over Michigan is always sweet, but I really don't like seeing the team not play up to its potential for the sake of "preserving" a victory.

It is like "prevent defense" which prevents you from winning, or alot of other colorful analogies that I won't post for the sake of not offending others, and not getting the boot!

I Do!!!. Bollman is a complete, clueless tool !!! His coaching of the line today and for the last 9 years made Michigan's lousy defense look good today. 10-3 isn't a bad season considering the O-lines play. And it won't EVER get any better until Bollman retires 'cause blinded lolalty will never have him replaced. Watching this game was like getting a root canal. Painfull to experience.

LOL are you serious? They had one senior in the rotation and ran for 200+ yards again... with conservative/predictable playcalling... and.... with RBs that will never be mistaken for first rounders. I hope you were drinking straight whiskey, and lots of it.

Text from Florida Grad who played high school football and who's dad is a Florida high school football head coach and has been for 30+ years.. "Man, your Oline is a monster blocking the run."

And how in the world did conservative get OSU a loss against Purdue? They lost to Purdue because Pryor turned the ball over 5 times, and the RB with the most carries got 7 (yes 7) carries total. JT went conservative after that game, and won out with a power-based and conservative offensive approach.

I did a poll on the OSU Scout board on the Monday after the Purdue game. It asked people to choose what record OSU would finish with this season. The highest was 8-4, and the next highest was 7-5. Keep whining.

This team could've tanked after Purdue. Instead, they ran the table against the toughest portion of the schedule.

OSU fans: the best and worst fans in the world. They deserve the type of seasons they used to get in the modern era pre-JT.

You all need to grow up. The name calling on this website is getting ridiculous. Why don't you go to the cafeteria and have a food fight?

If the best rebuttal that you can conjure up is to call someone a name, well, I think that pretty much speaks for itself. ;-)

Yep. Typical OSU-hater/Big 10-hater...

OSU was very mediocre early, but early they couldn't run for 200+ on Ironton. They have improved over the course of the season. USC has been stagnant. Improvement does happen.

Iowa's backup QB played better than Stanzi has ever played in his life. As for the other injuries, every team has guys out at this time of the year. OSU's top 2 LTs haven't played in weeks. Their best DT hasn't played in a while either.

In your original post, you were trying to create an equivalency between boring football and bad football. That is a false equivalency. Ohio State scored immediately after both Michigan scores. Do you think that was a coincidence? If so, you are a fool. JT takes the straight line for the win. He doesn't care if people are entertained. He takes the safest route to victory. Outside of Urban Meyer, and maybe, maybe Pete Carroll, who has won more this decade?

Sorry if I hurt your feelings, but I don't know what you expect with the "Weak Ten" comments. It sure makes you seem like a troll to me....

It has been down for a couple of years. However, their games have been close (they have tied the SEC) in bowls, so they are just inches away. These things go in cycles.

I think I took it the wrong way because you wrote "Weak Ten" rather than "I think the Big Ten is weak this year." It's a subtle change, but makes a world of a difference in my opinion.

Oh well, I'll delete my name-calling. My judgment isn't crisp right now anyway. I think it's the OSU fans who complain about how OSU beats Michigan and goes to Rose Bowls that irritate me the most. My apologies.
