Re: Waverly vs Athens 2019
Waverly returns a very strong nucleus in Haydn Shanks, Payton Shoemaker, Zeke Brown and eventually Phoenix Wolf. Not to mention that they have one of the smartest, and hardest working lineman around. This will be a good game for both teams

Re: Waverly vs Athens 2019
Excited to see this match up in week one. Both teams look to be in the running for playoff spots, so this will be a big test early for both teams!
Re: Waverly vs Athens 2019
When its all said and done, there will be a lot of computers points earned with this one.
Re: Waverly vs Athens 2019
Thought the same about this game meaning for a lot of points later in the season for both teams, should win the rest of their out of conference and compete for conference titles
A Kicker of various balls. Trust The Process

I like your optimism but as a die hard Waverly fan I'll take one game at a time. Traveling to Fairland will be no piece of cake. They beat Athens last year. Amanda finished the regular season 8-2 and made the playoffs. We all know their rich tradition. Unioto believes this is the year they'll beat us. I hear they're loaded. We'll be the underdog in that game.Kicker. wrote: Mon Jul 15, 2019 11:14 pm Thought the same about this game meaning for a lot of points later in the season for both teams, should win the rest of their out of conference and compete for conference titles
Don't get me wrong. Expectations for this Tiger team are high. We have a nice mix of experience and young talent. But that young talent is unproven for the most part. It won't be long until we see how they perform at the varsity level. Go Tigers!!

A battle between two finesse teams. Should be a dandy. If you hear any pads cracking it will be from someone accidentally running into someone.

Re: Waverly vs Athens 2019
Non conference schedule is as tough as its been for a while. At Fairland will be tough. We all know Amanda will be good. Everyone is saying this is Unioto’s year, not just to beat us but to possibly go undefeated.toast wrote: Tue Jul 16, 2019 12:32 pmI like your optimism but as a die hard Waverly fan I'll take one game at a time. Let’s take it one game at a time and that starts with the Bulldogs.

Definitely agree this is no cakewalk Waverly has done a good job of scheduling out of conference games, same for Athens as they have a tough out of conference. The foundation was set back in 2016 with that 9-1 season with the first playoff berth since 2008 and the tigers have done a great job getting to the playoffs, hopefully with being in a new region they’ll have some post season success. But you are correct no cupcakes out of conference

I'm sure Waverly is happy moving away from the Cincinnati region. Athens is in a brutal region

I'm thinking Stulley may be good to go for the first game. Sure would be a huge plus for Waverly if he's healthy and cleared to play.
Hoping to get a good report on Phoenix. Big day.

Waverly over Miami Trace 5-4 in our scrimmage. A few kids out for the Tigers. Any word on Athens? I'm assuming they had a scrimmage.
Re: Waverly vs Athens 2019
5-4 Waverly with three KEY players out. Waverly with some very good athletic skill players, need to get the ball in their hands with room to run.toast wrote: Sun Aug 18, 2019 7:00 pm Waverly over Miami Trace 5-4 in our scrimmage. Athens played Marietta. I didn’t hear anything but it’s Marietta. This Friday will be the test since Trimble is probably the best area team and will have a lot of speed. Built like Waverly. They beat us in the 7 on 7 by 1.toast wrote: Sun Aug 18, 2019 7:00 pm Waverly over Miami Trace 5-4 in our scrimmage. A few kids out for the Tigers. Any word on Athens? I saw the Athens/Marietta tape. Both offenses moved the ball pretty much at will.Raider6309 wrote: Sun Aug 18, 2019 7:40 pmAthens played Marietta. I didn’t hear anything but it’s Marietta. Athens QB is a great athlete - much more mobile than the kid last year and still a great thrower. Receivers are athletic and didn’t drop many passes. They get rid of the ball quick so hard to get a pass rush.
Marietta looked quick and used a lot of outside runs - jet sweeps to get the edge and then used action off it to run it in the gaps between the tackles. Tigers threw the ball well too.
From what I saw of Waverly last year, they are very similar to Athens. A power run game can punish Waverly.
I think this will be a high scoring game. Will probably be fun to watch.

Re: Waverly vs Athens 2019
The best thing that could have happened to Athens was getting punched in the mouth by Trimble on Friday. Not on the scoreboard, but inside the box. I think it woke em up a little bit and got them prepared for what's going to take place when the real games begin.
Re: Waverly vs Athens 2019
Weather forecast for Friday looks fantastic. 79 degrees at game time with almost no chance of rain.
I'm sure both teams have a lot of respect for each other. And I'm sure we'll see a big crowd. This should be a good one.

It's finally game week. Looking forward to Friday night.
Since there have been a couple of scrimmages now, can anyone that knows the bulldogs well give us a rundown on them? Such as who are their top players to watch, what are their strengths and weaknesses, are they senior heavy or more young, what are the expectations going into the season?

Re: Waverly vs Athens 2019
We are young. Our line is big but inexperienced. Athens is loaded with big fast skill players. The QB is a freak athlete but did fumble the ball on the third play vs Trimble. He did look better in the second quarter but that’s when Athens ran it’s true offense. 5 wide and only run with the QB. The QB for Athens can break off a huge TD run on any play. Probably be a shoot out. Waverly is probably the favorite since they are older but Athens should score a lot of points but I worry about inexperienced turnoversMasterOfNone wrote: Mon Aug 26, 2019 10:23 am It's finally game week.
