OHIO STATE 21 MICHIGAN 10
Re: OHIO STATE 21 MICHIGAN 10
Your right about things running in cycles..when i first moved to ohio the UM/OSU series was reversed and OSU couldn't buy a win and it will turn again..but football is football and Tressel is a great coach and does not deserve the venom spewed...ppl want the fancy spread but look where it has Michigan now lol....

Re: OHIO STATE 21 MICHIGAN 10
In the off season of 2008, Michigan and RR hire Greg Robinson from Syracuse to be their D-Coordinator.
In 2009, after the departure of Robinson at Syracuse, the Orange Defense gets better
in every statistical category.
While the Michigan D gets worse in every statistical category.
Coincidence, hmmmmm.

I wished RR would have kept the D cordanator that Coached at Michigan under Lloyd Carr, can't remember his name for the life of me. With him Michigan was putting STUDS on the field.

With him, Michigan had studs to put on the field.
Now they're starting walk-ons.

Re: OHIO STATE 21 MICHIGAN 10
Well, let me begin by saying it's always a good day at this house when Ohio State beats Michigan. Whether Michigan comes in with 10 wins or 0 wins, beating them (especially in the BIG HOUSE) is and always will be sweet to any true Ohio State football fan.
All of that being said, there is good reason for the cynicism that is hovering in and around the OSU fanbase. This was a lackluster performance against a poor team in UM. For Illinois to be able to put up 40+ on the Wolverines and soundly thump them and then for the Buckeyes to let them hang around in this one is just bad. Just leaves a bad aftertaste in my mouth.
Can anyone really expect anything less than cynicism from the OSU faithful after the past few years of bowl disasters/embarrasments plus the fact that OSU left a lot to be desired today? With the possibility of taking on someone like Oregon or Stanford in the Rose Bowl, how can an OSU fan ignore the looming possibility of yet another national humiliation?

OSU fans could have a million dollars in one hand and the cure for cancer in the other and would complain about their hands being full.

Re: OHIO STATE 21 MICHIGAN 10

I can't understand why fans criticize coaches after a win, especially a rivalry win. It happens at all the top programs because some fans are spoiled or stupid and don't know it. It was half the reason Spurrier left Florida. After '96 no one liked going 10-2 or 9-3 in a season.
I skipped going to the Gator game to watch this game on tv with my 72 year old dad. I had a great day.

Re: OHIO STATE 21 MICHIGAN 10
Hey Fuzz, the only embarassment in the last 3 years for the bowl games was Florida.
The Buckeyes faced the #1 team in the country the year after, and they were #7 when they stopped playing football.
The Buckeyes played a Texas team that should have been playing in the National Title game,
had a chip on their shoulder, and a ton to prove, and was one play away from getting the UPSET.
It was said earlier that the "play not to lose" mentality wouldn't beat a good team.
WAKE UP, it has already beaten 3 top 15 teams this season!
When the play book was opened, and Pryor was allowed to throw the ball over 30 times, and the
running game was secondary...
WE LOST TO PURDUE!!!
Tressel made the decision that it wouldn't happen again, and we haven't lost since.

You are exactly right ,but not all buckeye fans are like this i have been a fan all my life and have never bashed them or the coach regardless of who it is .Pryor will get better and the team will excell with him at QB and when it happens these so called Buckeye fans will be singing his praises .Unreal.
Re: OHIO STATE 21 MICHIGAN 10
The thing about Pryor that I like is that he has been very good at managing the game. He has improved his decision-making, and he has been more decisive with his runs. He is also playing with a bum wheel.
Also, JT clearly forces his QBs to demonstrate that they can efficiently manage a game, before he gives them the freedom to control a game. Troy Smith showed he could be safe and efficient, before he was handed the reigns in 2006. As long as TP continues to manage games well, JT will slowly give him more and more of the playbook and responsibility.

Well he better be giving TP the reigns soon, cause IMO TP will leave after next season.

FIDO wrote:No one will draft him, certainly not as a QB. I've seen High School qb's with better mechanics. He has gotten a lot better this year, as the season went along, but he isn't ready for the big leagues. He still looks awkward as heck when trying to throw the ball. He had two wide open receivers for TDs and overthrew them by 5 yds. He can be good at QB but lots of growing left before he can be put in the rest of NFL caliber qb's. IMO!
I'd be willing to bet no NFL team with draft him as a QB. They'll use his talents elsewhere.
He still has two full years of college elligablility left.
2009 Bowl Practice
2010 Spring, Summer, Season, Bowl
2011 Spring, Summer, Season, Bowl
At this point in their carrers, comparable QBs such as Vince Young and Troy Smith, were not making anywhere near the
contributions that Pryor has made thus far.
I'm not going to pretend to know if he will turn the next page and be a Troy Smith type guy by the end of his carrer at OSU, but
I do realize that he is further along in the process than Troy was at this point in his carrer.
As for QBs and the NFL, hell Tim Tebow isn't going to be drafted and used as a QB at the next level, and Florida fans couldn't care less.
And with his Body build and speed, if they use his talents elsewhere what is that going to hurt. It's worked well for several Steelers draft picks.

If you are talking about ron english im glad he is gone, I always thought he was overrated as a d-cord. I like G-rob as the D-cord, it wouldn't have mattered if monte kiffin was there this year our lbs/safties were terrible. If the D plays like this next year it wont matter though because rich rod and g-rob both will be gone.
Re: OHIO STATE 21 MICHIGAN 10
Dubs is spot on.
In their second years out of high school:
RS Frosh Troy Smith was a kick returner.
RS Frosh Vince Young threw for 1,155 yards, 6TDs, 7INTs, while rushing for 998 yards and 11 TDs. So, 2,153 total yards and 17 total TDs.
Terrelle Pryor without a bowl game has thrown for 1,828 yards, 16 TDs, 10INTs, while rushing for 707 yards and 7 TDs. So, 2,535 yards and 23 total TDs.
Remember, bowl stats count and were added to Vince Young's totals.

Re: OHIO STATE 21 MICHIGAN 10
Great gameplan by the Bucks. I thought Michigan gave themselves several oppurtunities to be in and win this game, but you can not turn the ball over and not be able to run the football when you have to.
I like Robinson as our D-Coordinator. Honestly Michigan just does not have the horses at this point. I do not like the Dubs comparison of Syracuse defense getting better v Michigan's getting worse. Robinson coached some pretty good Texas Defenses and two d*mn good defenses as the D-Coordinator of the back-to-back Super Bowl Champion Broncos. He will get that ship righted IMO. The problem is your starting FS had to move to DB after the starter stunk it up and then got booted from the team. The safety play went from being average to far below average. Plus, Mike Williams is just not suited to play S at a school like UM IMO. Too slooooow.
The Defensive line will get better as well---or should. Graham is a stud and will be missed but the gut of the Dline should be better with Mike Martin and Will Campbell holding down the DT spots. Michigan will need Craig Roh to gain some much needed weight (he is 240ish) if he is going to be more then just a speed rusher.
The secondary will be better as well. Warren will return for his senior year and JT Turner should occupy the other corner spot. This will allow Wolfolk to slide back to FS and Vlad Emilien should move into the SS Spot.
My big concern is the LB position. Mouton is the only solid LB on this team at the moment. Obi is a DE and I hope this staff moves him to Grahams spot. I look for Brandon Smith to make a big move this spring and move into a starting LB position. UM is still very thin at LB and have average talent.
The biggest concern on the defensive side of the ball for me are some of the D Coaches. Rich needs to get rid of some of his buddies. Hopson is awful and so is Gibson---problem is Gibby is a good recruiter.
I was also embarrassed to see so much Red in the Big House, but you know what, Rich deserves to see that. It is put up or shut up time now. 9 wins or bust for ol Rich next season.

Re: OHIO STATE 21 MICHIGAN 10
So Robinson gets two Superbowl rings, thanks to John Elway and Terrelle Davis.
Coached as Co Defensive Coordinator at Texas for one year, and barely beat Michigan
to get a Rose bowl win, giving up 37 points BTW. Then promptly went to Syracuse, where he
got 10 wins in 4 years, and led the Orange to the worst 4 year record in their long history of football.
Sure, he's a heck of a coach.

Re: OHIO STATE 21 MICHIGAN 10
That loss to Michigan was against a team that had Braylon Edwards, Jason Avant, Stevie Breaston, Chad Heene, and Mike Hart. Those are all starts in the NFL minus 1 who is now in the NFL. If you are going to try and paint that in a bad light then good luck.
Being a bad Head Coach means nothing in terms of being a good coordinator.
