How would it be set up?

The easiest way? BCS conference winners and two at-large.


1. Alabama vs. 8. Georgia Tech

4. TCU vs. 5. Florida


2. Texas vs. 7. Ohio State

3. Cincinnati vs. 6. Oregon


I still see it coming down to Texas vs. Alabama

Another I like would be having 12 teams...6 conference winners plus 6 at-large.

Teams:

Alabama, Texas, Cincinnati, Ohio State, Oregon, Georgia Tech = automatic
TCU, Florida, Boise State, Iowa, Virginia Tech, LSU = at-large

First round bye for: Alabama, Texas, Cincinnati, TCU

First round matchups:

11. Virginia Tech vs. 12. LSU for right to play 1. Alabama

9. Georgia Tech vs. 10. Iowa for right to play 2. Texas

7. Oregon vs. 8. Ohio State for right to play 3. Cincinnati

Title game: Alabama vs. Texas...Although Id love to see Florida play Bama again.

Here is what I think you could put the 6 BCS Conference winners in along with 2 At-large bids. This would create controversy though because it would be a tough choice between Boise and Florida Getting the final Playoff spot. I would take Boise State though since they are undeafeated and Florida already had their chance and Blew it. The higher seeds would get the automatic home playoff game for the first round only.

This would create a lot of excitement with a possible rematch in the semifinals between Boise and Oregon for the right to play in the Championship.

I would put the 6 BCS conference winners and 6 at large picks all in the tournament. so that would put together these matchups

#1 Alabama vs. #12 LSU

#2 Texas vs. #11 Virginia Tech

#3 Cincinnati vs. #10 Iowa

#4 TCU vs. #9 Georgia Tech

#5 Florida vs. #8 Ohio State Buckeyes

#6 Boise State vs. #7 Oregon

This would be an exciting bracket of teams to watch play in a win or go home plus two good rematches

What happens after that? Then you have 6 teams. Do you rebracket? Give a bye? Makes no sense.

More then 4 teams would be too many. For one, the unique thing about college football is that every week really matters. IMO anyone outside of the top 4-5 really does not deserve a shot at the National Title.

The Bowl system would fight this tooth and nail, so basically you allow all of the BCS Bowls continue to exist and still get quality teams.

The first two rounds will be played during the last week of bowl week, and then the National Title to be played a week later.

I have never been in favor of a playoff for the exact reason you mentioned above. The regular season is the playoff in my eyes. Imagine if there was an 8 team playoff...the SEC title game would have had absolutely zero hype. None. Imagine the OSU/USC game early. Doesnt mean as much. The regular season in college football is BY FAR the best regular season of ANY sport.

Four would be the most efficient. I would agree to that.

I have always been against a playoff for a myriad of reasons. One of the biggest is because there is no one great system to go to.

This season, in isolation, why not this:

#1 Bama vs winner of TCU/Boise play-in game
#2 Texas vs #3 Cincy

Expand the BCS system to include the Cotton Bowl, played at Cowboys stadium in Dallas

Play the TCU vs Boise game as a play-in game on Dec. 26
Bama plays the winner on Jan. 1 in Dallas at the Cotton Bowl
Texas plays Cincy on Jan. 1 in Scottsdale at the Fiesta Bowl.
Championship is played on Jan 9th, that way it's a saturday prime time game.

Now, the rest of the BCS bowls get:
Oregon vs OSU in Rose
Florida vs. Loser of the play in game in Sugar
Georgia Tech vs. At-large (in this case Iowa) in the Orange

You could also make this a permanent fix, and have the top 5 teams playoff in this style every year.

I think if they would have a college football play offs they should have maybe 25 teams and give the 1 seed a first round bye so that way it is rewarding to be in the top 25 in the season

i agree with peake and think that no more than 4 teams should be involved. this year has been crazy with 5 undefeated teams that is very rare. could somebody look up how many times that has happened.

Keep the BCS rankings as is with the top 8 playing a playoff. 1st Saturday in December would be played on #1-4 home field....winners play on Jan 1st with a Championship game played on the next Saturday night.

8 is too many. Why? Because the bowl system would never have it. The bowls would not join the playoff series, just would not happen.

The Rose Bowl is not going to want 2nd place Stanford v 2nd place Iowa if they can get USC or Ohio State. Go back to 2006. Michigan, USC, and Ohio State were all in the top 4. So the Rose Bowl would have been stuck with 3rd place Wisconsin v 2nd place Cal instead of cash cows Michigan and USC. Ratings and money mean a lot in colleg football.
