If you re-watched the game, could you explain to me the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on VC's first TD of the game?Raider6309 wrote: Mon Oct 28, 2019 9:10 am Wilburn had 139 yards rushing. He also broke a long one loose but had it called back. I rewatch the game, the refs did a fine job spotting the ball. Just shows the difference between NY and VC. NY knows where the first down marker is

Re: Nelsonville-York 34 - 20 Vinton County
One of the best highschool games I've ever watched was 1992 playoff game Vinton County vs ironton at Portsmouth Spartan stadium. I've never been able to get any info on that V.C. team like what their record was?, the Big Bruising running backs name? That was the best V.C. team I've ever seen. Whoever got the ball last was going to win that game and luck happened to be on irontons side that night. That was the only team and back that season that ironton couldn't stop( except state championship game). If memory serves me right...ironton played Nelsonville York the previous game at Portsmouth. If anyone could give me info on that team I'd be very interested to know what that teams record was? Who the back was? Did any player on that team play college ball? Did V.C. and N.Y. play that year? If so...who won? Ironton did NOT matchup well against Mentor Lake Catholic in the state championship game that year. I've always wondered what would have happened if V.C. would have beat ironton that year. What a memorable game that was....

Ny and VC did play that year, the score was 41-7 in favor of NY. Ny lost to Ironton in the playoffs 14-0.Giorgio Tsoukalous wrote: Mon Oct 28, 2019 10:45 pm One of the best highschool games I've ever watched was 1992 playoff game Vinton County vs ironton at Portsmouth Spartan stadium. I was at that game. That was one of the best defenses i remember watching that year! One of the only defenses to hold jermon Jackson and a high powered ironton offense in check that season. Ironton, N.Y. and V.C. were 3 of the best teams i seen that year. I might be wrong but i really believe any of those 3 teams are by far better than any team in southern ohio this year. I believe either of those 3 teams would be playing in a state championship this year...not sure what it is and i can't quite put a finger on it but it seemed like those teams from that time period were just better. Maybe the internet, video game, smartphone age has something to do with it. Kids back then just played with a passion i don't always see now...maybe it's just me.

Re: Nelsonville-York 34 - 20 Vinton County
Nelsonville beat VC that year 13-12
Was 1993
VC outgained Ironton by a significant amount and did contain jermom Jackson for the most part
Jason snider vc fullback played 4 years at naval academy
Andy booth vc quarterback won a title at Findlay
Had vc won that game they would’ve played for a state title

Vc was 9-1 regular season , beat Sheridan in playoffs and lost late lead and the game to ironton in OT

It was the 1st game at that point that VC had ever played in overtime---They seemed a little unsure of what the rules for Overtime.. I was at the game ---awesome game.... Best team in VC history of football. Had another boy go to Mount Union and play--won 2 titles there.

Re: WK9 Vinton County @ Nelsonville-York
Yes, we felt they screwed NY all night on those "sketchy" spots. Glad we weren't the only ones who noticed.Logangrad wrote: Sun Oct 27, 2019 11:40 amWe called this one on Power 105 and I know we made at least 7 comments about the spotting of the football. The one that stood out was the 4th down and 1 late that VC had that ball was on the 19 and was a half yard short on the measurement but when they gave the ball to NY and they flipped the ball it was spotted on the 18. Well had they spotted it that way for VC then its a first down??! The other was a NY player tackled ON the 45 and they moved the ball back to the 43???? He was LAYING ON THE 45!! I didn't get any of the spots for most of the game. It was sketchy.Dundas wrote: Sat Oct 26, 2019 1:56 amHappened all night. Lol After watching the film, it was even worse. I’m definitely not one to complain about a crew but wow. That’s all I’ll say. Big week next week against Wellston. Good luck to NY against Athens.LeftHanded wrote: Fri Oct 25, 2019 8:47 pm Nelsonville-York: Where the refs give the home team 10 yards on an 8 yard rush and the opposing team 8 yards on a 10 yard rush.

Wow! Yes it was one of the better highschool games I've ever watched. The atmosphere was one I'll never forget. Ironton always had great run defense including that year but that VC team could NOT be stopped. It usually takes a great team and some luck to reach a state title game and that year was no exception.that VC team was great but just didn't have the luck that night...ironton was happy to escape that game with a win...i remember the Tigers were very banged up and bruised after that game and it hurt them the next week. Probably the most physical game i ever watched.vcgrad wrote: Tue Oct 29, 2019 10:14 am It was the 1st game at that point that VC had ever played in overtime---They seemed a little unsure of what the rules for Overtime..
