Week 12--#1 Southeastern vs #4 Covington @ Xenia

Hard to go ball control with Ruby going for 15yds a carry! Lane has ran for as many yards as he has needed to in every game this year. I still think turnovers and penalties are the biggest threat to SE right now.

Penalties hurt SE a lot, but to think as you keep going deeper into the playoffs that he's going to average 15 yards a carry is a bit careless thinking. Those drives they put together that take up 5-6 minutes and end in a TD is what breaks teams down it makes the other team have to play flawless on offense because their touches are limited. Burg and Waverly, Waverly was able to easily move the ball but in the 2nd half burg just limited the touches for Waverly I think they touched it once in the 3rd quarter, now they scored but you get the point.

For normal players, I would totally agree that 15 yards a carry isn't likely in a 2nd round playoff game, but he's a D1 college level player athletically, against D6 high school football players. Most believe Mechanicsburg and Covington were the best of the region. I don't know how those 2 matchup as far as how similar they are, but I watched Mechanicsburg and saw nothing that would make me think they could slow down Ruby. In fact, Adena was the more athletic team, unfortunately they were calling out the plays before we ran them, because of the lack of creativity in our formations and play calling. If Southeastern loses, I don't think it will be because Covington shut down Ruby.

Yes, he's an extreme talent no arguments there but what you get with teams in this area is a lack of speed and discipline which equals to Ruby running wild. You go up against disciplined teams who pursue well and play contain well then you really cut down on those big plays. They don't need the big plays to win, they've got to cut down on penalties and just move the chains and everyone realize that Ruby getting 5-6 yards a carry once you start hitting week 12 is a really good thing as it's that ball control that can give them the chance to win.
