Re: SOC2 2019-20
07 (06/07 season) may have been shared between Waverly and Wheelersburg. I believe both won at home. I do know Waverly at least shared the title.4thgoal wrote: Mon Nov 25, 2019 4:03 pm Burg won the SOC in 07, 08, 10, 11, and 19. 08 was Drew Spradlin's senior season with Andy Stegman as a freshman. SW won in 06.
Walls, Arnett, the younger Conley, Murray (my son), Good, were all Juniors and they graduated the following year in 08. Seniors on that team were Cory Williamson, Justin Hilton, Roy Conley and I know I’ve missed somebody.
They shaved my head at center court when we got back home from beating Oak Hill to clinch....
Re: SOC2 2019-20
My notes has South Webster as the outright SOC champs in 2006, state championship for them in D4 and Wheelersburg made the State in D3 (SW and Burg split and Burg also lost to Northwest once)
For 2007 I have Wheelersburg as the outright champions. Wheelersburg did lose 1 game to Waverly but I believe Waverly lost once or twice more in the league, but I can’t find that schedule online. Wheelersburg qualified for State again that year.
Correction, asked someone who would know and they said Waverly and Burg did split the league in 2007.

If 09 was the year that OH won the State, and you very well may be right, I think OH was in there 2nd year of being Div.4. I think they then were Div.3 the next year, and here's where I'm probably confused. I know for a fact that the Burg beat OH at Jackson in the Sec.Finals or Sem.Finals. For some reason I was thinking that possibly OH may have been undefeated during the regular season that year, and therefore would have been in contention for the league championship. There again I may be wrong on all counts.4thgoal wrote: Mon Nov 25, 2019 4:25 pm 09 was the year Oak Hill went undefeated and won the state championship

If I was able to access my old account, I would give you the year that that happened. I did the updates for that game and it my most commented on post. I’m fairly certain they beat burg twice that season and then the burger boys came out and tromped emVetteMan wrote: Mon Nov 25, 2019 11:23 pmIf 09 was the year that OH won the State, and you very well may be right, I think OH was in there 2nd year of being Div.4. Thanks! I remember a kid from Portsmouth had moved or transferred to the Burg, and he had a game where is was hitting shots from all over the court. I think his last name may have been Bendoff, I probably spelled it wrong. The reason I brought it up was that I thought that it was possible that OH may have gone undefeated during the regular season, and then OH would have had to have been in contention for the league championship in 2010.Then again, I may be completely wrong. Thanks again for looking that up.
Re: SOC2 2019-20
This is accurate. Bendolph was his name last name, Andrew I believe. Good player. Came to Burg 1 year and they upset an undefeated Oak Hill team in the sectional final at Jackson.VetteMan wrote: Tue Nov 26, 2019 1:22 amSwankerPine wrote: Mon Nov 25, 2019 11:58 pm It was in fact 2010 that Burg beat the oaks in their 3rd matchup

Bendolph was a very good player. Didn't he move back to PHS and help them get to the STATE?
Re: SOC2 2019-20
Thanks bbjunky81. 4thGoal had posted that OH was undefeated in 09, the year that they had won the State, I wasn't sure, but he may have been right. He also posted that Burg had won the league in 2010, witch couldn't be right if OH had gone undefeated in the regular season. No big deal, thanks again for clearing things up in 2010.bbjunky81 wrote: Tue Nov 26, 2019 8:39 amThis is accurate. Bendolph was his name last name, Andrew I believe. Good player. Re: SOC2 2019-20
That's correct, he was only at Wheelersburg for one year and then went back to Portsmouth for his senior season. They lost in the State semifinals to a very good Cleveland Central Catholic team. Cleveland Central Catholic then went on to get smoked by Taft in the final who had a young man named Adolphus Washington who had a very good career for the Buckeyes and got drafted into the NFL.Prince wrote: Tue Nov 26, 2019 9:18 am Bendolph was a very good player. The next season, 2011-2012, Portsmouth returned to the state tournament led by Wayne Evans and Dion McKinley. They won the state semifinal against Ottawa Glandorf before losing in the final to a very good CIncinnati Summit Country Day... Summit had Antonio Woods who played at D1 Penn and Kevin Johnson who played at the University of Cincinnati.

Thanks for the info bbjunky81. Portsmouth had really nice teams those 2 years but ran into a BUZZ SAW.

Re: SOC2 2019-20
Never mind, I heard today. Will be out for the year I'd say. Losing a starter for the year, not having Shanks for the season (which we all knew about before basketball even began), 2 of the 3 who didn't come out this year would've saw varsity time, then add in a couple other guys who are going to start the year injured/out. I just don't see this team being able to compete for an SOC title this year. Depth is going to be a problem and as I think they will get better in the second half of the year, they won't be able to overcome all those things listed above. If healthy, I think they absolutely could compete for title. But as things are now, I see them finishing middle of the pack.MasterOfNone wrote: Tue Nov 26, 2019 12:18 amWho now?smurray wrote: Mon Nov 25, 2019 10:56 pm Well, not the news Waverly wanted to hear today. Re: SOC2 2019-20
No doubt the injury really sets waverly back. I heard 6 to 8 weeks today. Should be back mid to late January. You are right about no depth. Starters are going to have to suck it up and stay on the floor. If Smallwood is good to go Saturday they will be competitive but no doubt will take their lumps.

Waverly with a good win.
Both teams were dealing with injuries, so an even playing field.
Good start for the league, but it could be a really long year for Valley
