Interesting, a traditional power with minimal success the last 10 years vs a relative newcomer that exploded onto the scene 10 years ago.

Good find, I knew Kirtland has been one of the top teams but I didn't realize how long of a run they've truly been on. This will be their jump to DV, looking back at their state runner up games they lost to Marion Local, Minster and Coldwater, all MAC schools who play tough defense and get after it. They defeated Marion Local last year for the title, so yeah it's going to be a tough game. It is interesting to see how up until 2008 there was zero success in terms of playoffs.

Congrats to Ironton for making it to Canton awesome job definitely the best team in the area this year. But IMO the 2017 Burg team was a better team than this year's Ironton team Burg had to face much stiffer competition to win state But Kirtland is really good and if Ironton beats them and wins state I might just change my mind but I doubt it. Congrats to Ironton on earning a trip to Canton to play for a state championship! What an awesome experience it will be for players, coaches and fans to be there! I say this to everybody going to watch and support: As a Pirate fan who visited Canton in 2017, enjoy the time you're there. It is truly a once in a lifetime experience that many people do not get to witness. I wish everybody a safe drive to and from Canton!

As for the game itself, we all know how Kirtland was a powerhouse in D6 for many years but after watching both games tonight, I think Ironton has the edge in this one. Kirtland looks very similar to West Jefferson in terms of running attack IMO. This will definitely be the toughest game they will have played all year but they will definitely be ready for whatever Kirtland throws at them. Ironton has so many play-makers to step up when another is missing on both sides of the ball. Defense looked very strong tonight against WJ and I wouldn't expect anything less next Saturday! Good luck Tigers in the biggest game of the year and bring another state championship back to Southern Ohio!

Found this interesting.. max preps has kirtland ranked 13 nationally. "Small school top 25" (under 1000 kids) I still got 'arnton though. They are ballin right now. Good luck tigers!

If that run down right there isn't enough for you to respect and understand what opponent Ironton is getting ready to take on then nothing will. All season long most have had Kirtland ranked #1 overall for DV. I truly hope most people don't buy into this and understand what opponent they're dealing with. Just over the last 4 years Kirtland has played an extra season compared to Ironton, they've dealt with the likes of Coldwater a team that routinely put a running clock on burg, Maria Stein Local another team that has won state championship after state championship, so for anyone to think it's a team that's been in DVI and now they're DV this will be easy could be in a for a rude awakening. I hope they do steam roll Kirtland but Kirtland is right along with those great MAC schools in that they have proved they are the team to beat year in and year out and tops in their division for a reason.

Yeah I would think that but the first few pages are riddled with anything but that, and I'm sure you see that. You are correct 2014 Kirtland 28-7 victory over the Valley.
