"5) The "Buckeye Fans are Mean" Reputation
---There are bad apples in every group. There will be more people around the stadium on gameday than there are residents of
Cabell, Boyd, and Lawrence counties COMBINED! Think of the number of buttholes in those counties and now make all of them huge fans of the same team, that oh by the way, Isn't Your Team.
---You can make sure that you have a good time by following a few simple suggestions.
-----1) Follow the parking guidelines I stated earlier, and try and find other Marshall fans to walk to the stadium with.
-----2) Instead of yelling back, Ignore the Idiots they go away.
-----3) If your in an area that you are staying in for awhile, engage surrounding Buckeye fans in an actual conversation.
We are people too, and love to talk football. You'll find that if you start a conversation with "so how are you guys looking this year",
or "Tressel should have you guys in the title game again", that Buckeye fans will talk and you'll get along great.
-----4) Don't march your happy butts down High St. chanting "We Are Marshall" in front of the drunk Gorillas. If you do, you asked for it!
-----5) When all else fails, yell "MICHIGAN SUCKS". It's a winner throughout the year.

6) When you get to your stadium seats, talk to the strangers around you.
---The people surrounding you are likely Buckeye fans, there to see their Buckeyes play. Don't ignore them, have a civil discussion during pregame.
when you're waiting for the band to come in, engage the surrounding Buckeyes with banter about college football, and this years expectations.
You'll find that they are talkative, and may actually let you talk about Marshall too. MAYBE!

7) Have a Great Time
---Don't come in expecting to get treated like crap.
---That's mostly myth, that we make fact on teams that "actually matter". Not that Marshall doesn't, I hope you understand what I mean.
You're not Wisconsin, Miami, Michigan, or Penn St. so you'll be fine.

Good luck, and have Fun!"

I think it is so funny there is a Step by Step process at OSU to not be annoyed or humiliated by Buck nut fans :)! Speaks of a thousand words for Columbus, Ohio.

I think he was actually trying to help in alot of different ways. There isn't a standard process of getting treated fairly but going to C-bus from a Marshall standpoint is a major contrast and to see 2-3 hundred thousand in one place is alot different than a game in Huntington.

I have a suggestions for Marshall fans, if you have ever been to WVU for a game. Don't worry tOSU wouldn't treat animals like they (WVU fans) treat people.

Actually is looks pretty standard to me..and this comes from an apparent Buckeye fan!

"2) Instead of yelling back, Ignore the Idiots they go away." So this implies there are people who are looking for trouble and want you to react so they can harass you.

"We are people too, and love to talk football. You'll find that if you start a conversation with "so how are you guys looking this year",
or "Tressel should have you guys in the title game again", that Buckeye fans will talk and you'll get along great. " This implies if you DON'T talk about OSU to a buckeye fan from the get gothey will either write you off..sounds to me they just want to hear about how good they are :S

4) Don't march your happy butts down High St. chanting "We Are Marshall" in front of the drunk Gorillas. If you do, you asked for it! Also, rooting for your own team is a NO!..well unless you want to hear every %^$& word in the book yelled at you by drunk college students and old men that are everywhere (and yes they are everywhere!!!)

5) When all else fails, yell "MICHIGAN SUCKS". It's a winner throughout the year. Also, if you are in a bad situation..just degrade another team (and I understand the rival here) that usually just puts you on their level and they will leave you alone!

and we won't even mention what used to go on at Hineygate!

I agree the first few paragraphs are helpful to getting around that packed madhouse if you are a first-timer...but the other paragraphs seem as if they are a survival kit to not be harassed.

There are lot of good Buckeye fans..I know many many many! But from my experience they are at home watching the game on their tv.

This link is from a few years back..when I went..maybe things have cleaned up?? I know this is a Michigan game which is every reason to act even crazier..but still..this is what I encountered the few years I used to go.

You see that as an insult, I see it as a complement.

If you don't like it, don't come. Nobody asked you to anyway.

I don't like the behavior at Buckeye games by the drunks, but nothing we say or do can stop it.

You have to stop and realize a couple things.
The population of the entire state of West Virginia is only 150,000 more people than the
metro-Columbus area.
The population of the 1 mile radius surrounding The Shoe on gameday is greater than that
of entire metro Huntington, Ashland, Ironton areas combined.

Think of how many bars and clubs that are in that area, think of how many as$holes are in that area.
Now take that entire population of people, and put them in a 2 mile circle, give them beer, and a common
team to cheer for.

The bad apples give a bad reputation, but if you'll take my suggestions seriously, and not just laugh them off and be a typical hater,
then you'll have a great time.

Feel free to cheer for your team all you want, but keep in mind, if your loud and crazy about your team, there are nearly 1/5 of a million people that
are crazy about the home team as well.

Also, another thought to note:

If you're arriving after 5:00, and taking 315 North bound to get here, you may want to take the Medical Center Drive exit.
It's the one before Lane Ave. They will be opening "The Pit" which is the parking area that employees use for the Hospital.
Take the Hospital Dr exit, turn left and stay in the left lane. At the very next light, turn left into the parking lot.

This one might be a little risk/reward. It is usually a good place to park, and offers less congestion getting out after the game.
But, here's the risk, it's a weekday and the lot is open to employees to park there as usual for work until 3:30.
It may be pretty full already, and if you chose to take this option, then getting to another parking area can be tricky with all the construction
going on at the Hospital.

Message me if you have any other questions concerning gameday festivities, parking, or other info.

Full disclosure on why I'm offering these tips and why I might come off to some as a know it all.

I have lived up here in Columbus for 6 years now, my wife works for the University, and I am on campus everyday during the week.
I know the area very well, and have dealt with the construction and traffic changes first hand all summe.
And am trying to offer an advise service to those who are less knowledgeable and want to have a great time
up here for a game.

To anyone who doesn't like the advise, shut the heck up, this isn't for you.

To all others, hopefully you have a great time and a safe trip.

I'll take that advice for week 3 Dublin.

Been to a few buckeye games and as long as you're respectful, you'll be treated with respect. I doubt there's any problem with rooting for the team you like in Columbus, but don't be an obnoxious @#$ about it.

If the same Marshall fans go to the Shoe as the ones I met in Detroit at the Little Ceasers Bowl, I'm willing to bet there'll be a fight or two.

Also another way to get to the stadium and is pretty easy way that I take is to go straight up
23 into Columbus til u get to nationwide blvd and make a left and go up and turn right onto neil ave and follow it straight diwn into campus and their is a hospital that offers gameday parking in their garage for $10-15. It's only about a 5-10min walk from the stadium and it's not nearly as hectic and congested. Once the game is over and ur back in ur vehicle u can be back out on the main drag down to 23 in no time....... They way Dub said to go on 315 is also a great way and faster but as he said there is usually construction and a ton of gameday traffic

The hospital garage you speak of is The Ohio State Medical Center.
Parking there will be $15 as well this year.

If you're taking that route, leave early and take a right on Kussoth Dr. in German Village,
and go to Shmidt's. Get yourself the Audobaun buffet and a cream puff.

Be prepared for a lot of bad four letter words to be thrown your way, have some friends that went to Columbus to watch a game and were not Buckeye fans and were cursed and treated with no respect.

If they were fans of a team that mattered, and not Marshall, that might be true.
Also, I doubt that your friends were blameless in the matter.

Actually there only fault was they had better seats than most of the OSU fans, and special needs children wearing the visiting teams jersey's. If having better seats is a crime then I guess they are guilty, but to curse children for wearing another teams jersey, that is one reason I can never pull for Ohio State.
