D4 2019-20 Basketball (Updated 2/16)
Re: D4 2019-20 Basketball (Updated 1/26)
Peebles and New Boston are just on a different level than the rest of the D4 teams in SEO.. I’d absolutely love for those two to meet in the tournament but the only possibility would be Regional Final. Would be a great game for a championship!

For sure hope my Indians play it one game at a time and make a big run. They have Fayetteville,Manchester this week and finish with Chesapeake at Peake, then Senior night vs Miami Trace at home. Wins over North Adams,New Boston,Trimble,Federal Hocking as well as a tough league schedule. Peebles and Eastern Brown had a very tight overtime game eventually won by Eastern . Hopefully we can stay healthy and finish strong. One game at a time.bbjunky81 wrote: Sat Feb 01, 2020 11:39 pm Peebles and New Boston are just on a different level than the rest of the D4 teams in SEO.. I always thought they were in the east. In the league with Sheridan.
Re: D4 2019-20 Basketball (Updated 2/2)
Mattash, it looks like Crooksville was D3 last year. They must have dropped down to d4 this year.

Crooksville was most always D3
I would rank the top 10 this way:
1 Peebles
2 New Boston
3 Trimble
4 Fairfield
5 Fed Hocking
6 South Webster
7 St Joseph
8 Symmes Valley
9 Green
10 Crooksville

I would say that's fair except that if you're going to rank South Webster there based on strength of schedule than the same should be done for Crooksville. Brutal schedule. South Webster deserves to be above Symmes Valley since they beat them but many coaches vote solely off record (which is sad). I'm not fully sold that South Webster isn't better than Fed Hock and Fairfield, but I'm not sure many posters would agree with that.
If I'm the #1 or #2 seed I'm trying anything I can to not put Webster in the #7, #8, #9, #10 spots as they could win the first game and end up matched with them. New Boston and Peebles are still clearly the favorite, but there's much worse teams they deserve to be facing as the #1 and #2 seed.
I think it's more likely you see Crooksville and South Webster as the 11-14 seeds and probably not higher. Keeps the top 2 seeds happy and Webster + Crooksville would much rather take that route as well.

Re: D4 2019-20 Basketball (Updated 2/2)
If I had to predict the rankings today I'd guess it ends up something like this:
1.) Peebles 16-2
2.) New Boston 18-1
3.) Trimble 13-2
4.) Federal Hocking 15-4
5.) Leesburg Fairfield 11-6
6.) Ironton St. Joe 13-5
7.) Symmes Valley 13-5
8.) South Gallia 9-8
9.) Lucasville Valley 8-10
10.) Green 8-9
11.) Southern 7-8
12.) Crooksville 7-9
13.) South Webster 7-11
14.) Whiteoak 6-12
Do I think this is how good they actually are? I do not. But it allows coaches to vote record based (for the most part) and angle some things they'd want.
If I had to rank them in terms of who the best teams are I'd rank more like this:
1.) Peebles
2.) New Boston
major gap
3.) Trimble
4.) Fed Hock
5.) Leesburg
6.) St. Joe
7 through 11) Some order of South Webster, Crooksville, Valley, Green, and Symmes Valley
1.) Peebles 16-2
2.) New Boston 18-1
3.) Trimble 13-2
4.) Federal Hocking 15-4
5.) Leesburg Fairfield 11-6
6.) Ironton St. Joe 13-5
7.) Symmes Valley 13-5
8.) South Gallia 9-8
9.) Lucasville Valley 8-10
10.) Green 8-9

I think the winner of FH and Trimble will lock up the 3 seed. I like Peeble a lot. A complete team. I don’t see SW getting ahead of Symmes Valley. I will say South Webster is peaking at the right time though. Should make for a very interesting tournamentbbjunky81 wrote: Mon Feb 03, 2020 1:39 pm If I had to predict the rankings today I'd guess it ends up something like this:

Re: D4 2019-20 Basketball (Updated 2/2)
How can strength of schedule not play a role in voting for placement. Some of these teams play D2 and D3 teams all season and that is not even considered, what a joke and hope it doesn't happen and all stats are considered
Re: D4 2019-20 Basketball (Updated 2/2)
I agree with what you’re saying but who determines the strength of schedule? It’s not something you see. The closest thing to it is Pfloyd’s rankings. The seeding is mostly coaches posturing to get the path that suits their team best. I think in some cases coaches just look at overall record, circle the teams they want to avoid....and seed the way that benefits them the most. It’s not cut and dried.gameover wrote: Mon Feb 03, 2020 3:32 pm How can strength of schedule not play a role in voting for placement. Re: D4 2019-20 Basketball (Updated 2/2)
I also find it funny when I see people post major gap after the 1 and 2 when there has been 4 games I can think of that was 8 points or less and a couple by 3 points major gap that's another joke.
Re: D4 2019-20 Basketball (Updated 2/2)
Just one persons opinion, nothing more. It’s all about match ups. I think it’s hard to say there is a large gap. In the end it doesn’t matter. Win and advance. I don’t believe the 1 and 2 make it thru. I have a feeling there will be an upset or two along the way.
Re: D4 2019-20 Basketball (Updated 2/2)
The regular season prepares you for the tournament. It also gives you a chance to posture for the best seed you can get in a bracket that best suits your match ups. Peebles tries to schedule who appear to be good teams for the coming year out of teams that they can actually schedule for out of league games. This year they were New Boston,Federal,Trimble,Chesapeake, Miami Trace, with a few from the Cincinnati area plus our league foes Eastern Brown,North Adams,West Union,Ripley,Lynchburg Clay, Fairfield Fayetteville etc... Usually a good mix of D2,D3 and D4. Teams to prepare for tournament. For years we were back and forth between D3 and D4. Now it seems we are settled into D4 for the long term. Good luck and safe travels to all.
Re: D4 2019-20 Basketball (Updated 2/2)
Peebles plays 13 league games a year. They schedule 9 non league games wherever they can get them. It was a little different back when Western Pike and Georgetown were in the league. Our travel is getting a little farther than normal so I would love to see ,because of budget, our league get a couple teams back in the league to cut travel. Not sure the league likes me saying that ,but; it is what it is.Hoopie74 wrote: Mon Feb 03, 2020 4:52 pm The regular season prepares you for the tournament. I read that Malvern just got their 2nd best player back from injury. If true, I really think they'll end up being the team we see in Athens... or Rosecrans..
Hiland is still very good, but they're not the Hiland they were last year.

St Joe plays Symmes Valley this Friday. This game should play a huge factor in determining which one of them is seeded above the other. SV beat SJ a few weeks back at SV.
