Re: Pandemic Sports Calendar Proposal
Howard, what your saying is from February to June(4 months) you got (15-18 year old playing) then turn around only 4-5 weeks away you start fall football for 2021 for the junior, Sophs freshman from August to Nov. (4 months) so these young men in 11 months are playing a physical game 8 months out of 11. Injury’s and pushing these young men to compete is uncalled for and probably will lose a lot of players because of gun ho attitudes of many in a pandemic. This will put undo stress on these boys physically, mentally and let along schools handling this during a pandemic. If people would obey the pandemic rules and worry about protecting others during this time, like spreading the virus among players, coaches, then taking it home to family, older family and general public. Why is everyone pushing the envelope and endangering other people by promoting people to interact in a unsafe way. can school districts really think this will be safe to have these young people play these sports in August without a vaccine and not be held accountable for the safest possible results, would you let your 16 year old daughter or son interact with others who you don’t know who they have been around and bring it home to your family.

Won’t work because like someone posted the season would end to close to the 2021 season to begin. It would be better just to cancel a season then start back to normal the following season. We don’t even know when there will be school again.

I don’t disagree with most of what you said, but come on dude. This is a prep sports site, of course people are going to post possible ways to play sports during this. I’m shocked you are that taken aback by a thread. It’s not like this guy works for the Ohsaa and is telling everyone this is how it’s going to be, you need to relax man, let people enjoy the thought of sports since there very well may not be any.Prime Time wrote: ↑Fri May 01, 2020 3:55 pm Howard, what your saying is from February to June(4 months) you got (15-18 year old playing) then turn around only 4-5 weeks away you start fall football for 2021 for the junior, Sophs freshman from August to Nov. Re: Pandemic Sports Calendar Proposal
This is my last post on this, but I’m sorry I think it’s absolutely ridiculous to think we need to make these kids “social distance” to the point they can’t even enjoy school, sports, or life in general. Kids aren’t even being affected by the virus. And again, take extra precautions if they live with a “vulnerable” person.. In the fall we need to sanitize classrooms and athletic facilities , be smart, wash hands frequently, wear a mask inside if need be, and GO ON WITH OUR LIVES!!
One last thought... Gov Dewine stated in a press conference that when sports come back it will be up to those individuals on wether or not their kids participate. We can’t sit around and wait for a vaccine that might never happen..

Re: Pandemic Sports Calendar Proposal
The vast majority of kids I’ve talked to are just rolling with it. They’re learning life lessons along the way.
Re: Pandemic Sports Calendar Proposal
By July 1 the kids should resume activities, if your high risk take extra precautions.
Re: Pandemic Sports Calendar Proposal
I agree that any change isn't ideal but I bet if you asked high school athletes their choice on adjusting schedules to play (shortened season, different season of the year, etc.) vs. not playing at all, most would be for doing whatever needed to be done.

This is the time for kids to take working out on there own time serious. You can’t do anything with the school till June 30th as of now. If football kicks off and they can start in July there could be a lot of kids seriously out of shape. This season is a mystery to say the least. Will it be delayed, cancelled or start on time. I never thought it would last this long.

Re: Pandemic Sports Calendar Proposal
Most things in the end come down to politics and finances. This will be no different.
Instead of doing what's right for these kids, they will be dragged along all year and probably in the end loose most if not all the sports seasons anyways. Spring football is one thing, but what about kids that play baseball and basketball? Do people really think they're gonna let kids in crowded gyms playing basketball in the winter when the disease will be around with the flu?
Keep the online schooling and let this year of sports go, instead of making it a mess. Give the kids another year and move on next year. Probably won't happen because if they make this decision sooner than later, those in the OHSAA won't be needed for a while and will be laid off like everyone else.

Re: Pandemic Sports Calendar Proposal
Or another possibility for this year would be to go without sports that cant really social distance in favor of those where distancing would be possible. Unfortunately that would mean Wrestling would be the first sport to go. Then the list would have to include indoor sports. No Volleyball, Basketball, Swimming this year.
Cross country could be a go if the runners wore gaiters while they ran. Both Track and Cross country would have to give up having BIG invitationals for this year. Small meets with no more than three teams would probably be the way to go.
The big question with softball and baseball would be what to do to protect kids in the dugout? What about proximity and transfer of sweat during football?
Honestly, because of the threat of transmission to others, I am not sure we can make sports happen this year. I have only begun to think of the hurdles schools would have to get over in order to make it work.
Maybe schools should go with e-sports t his year and let kids play everything out online.

What he’s doing is spreading blatantly false information. This is NOT in anyway on the table, just some stupid internet fodder.Prime Time wrote: ↑Fri May 01, 2020 3:55 pm Howard, what your saying is from February to June(4 months) you got (15-18 year old playing) then turn around only 4-5 weeks away you start fall football for 2021 for the junior, Sophs freshman from August to Nov. What a fine example , this is why Gov.DEWine has a stay at home until end of May. Everybody else isn’t going about there lives, lives matter, it’s called having respect for people around you and not a me me attitude, I will do what I want and not listen to your Gov Mike DEWine and Dr Amy Acton, wow, this kind of thinking is really a fine example of not following the rules , especially during a pandemic.
